Daniel 12:11-12 and End Time Events

"And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days."

Introduction

Most commentators agree the taking away of the daily sacrifice will take place at the mid-point of the last week, or 7 years, of the 70 weeks of years that have been determined on Daniel's people, the Jews. (Daniel 9:24) The majority also agree these 7 years will begin after the rapture of the Church. (How long after is not known.) Further, it is generally agreed the daily sacrifice will be taken away 1,260 days after the start of the 7 years or 1,260 before the end of the 7 years.

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.— Daniel (9:24)

Note 1. The period to the end of the 7 years is 1,260 days but the prophecy above states there will be 1,290 days from the time the daily sacrifice is taken away, which is an additional 30 days. What will take place at the end of the 30 days is not stated but I think it will be the setting up of the 'abomination that maketh desolate.' In addition, the prophecy does not state what will take place during the 30 days but I think the Revelation of Jesus Christ reveals that to us.

Note 2. The last reference, to the 1,335 days, which is an additional 45 days AFTER the end of the 7 years, states 'he that waiteth, and cometh' to the 1,335 days will be blessed. The prophecy does not identify who 'he' will be nor does it tell us what will take place during the 45 days but, as with the 30 days, I think the Revelation of Jesus Christ provides the answers.

Prologue To The Revelation of Jesus Christ.

It is not my intention to 're-invent the wheel.' A number of commentators, more qualified than myself, have studied the prophecies of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, along with other related scriptures, in very great depth and have written a number of books. Based on the conclusions reached by most of those I have read, I think it is safe to say that at some point, shortly before the rapture, the nation Israel will enter into a 'covenant' with the UN and/or the EU which will give them a guarantee of peace. Under the terms of this treaty they will, I think, be allowed to build their temple of worship in Jerusalem and re-institute the daily sacrifice. Whether it is built before or after the rapture is immaterial.

Following the rapture of the church the beast from the sea (Rev.13:1) will appear on the world scene. The term 'beast' appears to apply to both an empire and the head of an Empire, a revival of the Old Roman Empire. The beast will 'confirm' the covenant with Israel for 'one week,' for 7 years and, at the mid-point of the 7 years, he will stop the daily sacrifice. (Dan. 9:27).

And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. — Revelation 13:1

And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.— Daniel 9:27

From the Revelation of Jesus Christ

I think it is at this time that John will be told to measure the temple of God, the altar and 'them that worship therein.' He is also told not to measure the court of the temple as it is to be given to the gentiles, and he is told the gentiles will tread the holy city underfoot for 42 months - 3 ½ years or 1,260 days. He is then told about the two witnesses, what they can do and how they can do it. He is also told they will be clothed in sackcloth and will 'prophesy' for 1,260 days. (Rev. 11:1-6) John is not given the identity of 'them that worship therein' but I think it is logical to assume 'them' will be the two witnesses. They have to witness from somewhere and while they are witnessing from the temple in Jerusalem the 144,000 of Revelation 7 will be preaching the gospel to the Jews and anyone else who will listen, worldwide. (God will cover all the bases. Praise the Lord!)

And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.— Revelation 11:1-6

The court without the temple is given to the gentiles but the temple is not and, I think it can be concluded, since the two witnesses are worshipping in the temple and only the court is under the control of the gentiles it will not be possible for the beast to set up the abomination until after they have been killed. (See Note 1, above.) 3 ½ days after the witnesses are killed they will be taken up to heaven in the sight of all those present and there will be a great earthquake that will kill 7,000 men. (Rev.11:11-13) We do not know how much damage will be done by the earthquake but it is reasonable, I think, to conclude the beast will not be able to set up the abomination until the end of the 30 days. (Note 1, again.)

And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them. And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.— Revelation 11:11-13

In addition to the slaying of the witnesses at the end of the 7 years, it is generally agreed the 7th trumpet will be sounded. This will mark the end of the 70 weeks of years determined on Daniel's people and we are told that when it sounds the 'mystery of God' will be finished. (Rev. 10:7) There are many 'mysteries of God' and this one is not specifically identified but since it is tied in with the ending of the 70 weeks of years, which is still a mystery, then I think it can be concluded they are the mystery in question. The sounding of the 7th trumpet does not, however, as some think, signal the return of Our Lord in Glory.

But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.— Revelation 10:7

During the last half of the 7 years, the 144,000 and the 2 witnesses will proclaim God's message to the nation of Israel and now, during the next 30 days, God, I think, will carry the same message, via the angels of Rev. 14:6-7 to the rest of the world in fulfillment of Matthew 24:14 and Mark 13:10. It also answers a part of Note 1, above. Praise the Lord!

And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.— Revelation 14:6-7

And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.— Matthew 24:14

And the gospel must first be published among all nations.— Mark 13:10

The 30 days are over and, at this point, the beast sets up the abomination in the temple. This act sends the Israelites who are still in Jerusalem flying, in accordance with Matthew 24:14 and following; Mark 13:14 and following and, Luke 21:20 and following. It also marks the beginning of the 'GREAT' tribulation.

For these be the days of vengeance,— Luke 21:20.

For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be. And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.— Mark 13:19-20

For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.— Matthew 24:21-22

The first 3 ½ years saw the appearance of the 'seal' judgments, the second 3 ½ years saw the appearance of the 'trumpet' judgments and now, it seems obvious, the last 45 days will see the appearance of the 'vial' judgments. (See Note 2, above.) One look at the severity of the vial judgments should make it obvious that if these days are not shortened, as foretold, then no flesh could be saved. However, it is necessary for some flesh to be saved so that there will be men and women to enter the millennium in their natural state for the purpose of repopulating the earth. Praise the Lord!

And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.— Revelation 16:17
