"Iris Code" Could Make Passwords and PINs Things of the Past
The Kansas City Star,
12/1/97

Can't seem to remember that infernal PIN number for your bank card?
Don't worry. Thanks to a technology right out of James Bond, you might
not need it much longer.

Just step up to the camera while your eye is scanned. And don't try to
play tricks. The iris--the colored part of the eye the camera will
check--is unique to every person, more so than fingerprints.

Sensar Inc., a New Jersey-based company, is preparing to offer
eye-scanning to ATM manufacturers as an alternative to passwords and
PINs for automatic teller machines.

The system works like this: When a customer puts in a bank card, a stereo
camera locates the face, finds the eye and takes a digital image of the
iris at a distance of up to three feet.

The resulting computerized "iris code" is compared with one the customer
will initially provide the bank. The ATM won't work if the two codes
don't match.

The entire process takes less than two seconds, said Rob Van Naarden,
vice president of marketing and sales for Sensar.

-----edit-----

Scientists have identified 250 features unique to each person's iris--
compared with about 40 for fingerprints--which remain constant through a
person's life, unlike a voice or a face. Fingerprint and hand patterns
can be changed through alteration or injury.

Even identical twins do not have identical irises, Van Naarden said.

"The iris remains the same from 18 months after birth until five minutes
afer you die," Van Naarden said.

And, scam artists beware, a picture of the card holder won't pass muster.
The first thing the camera will check is whether the eye is pulsating.

"If we don't see blood flowing through your eye, you're either dead or
it's a picture," Van Naarden said. "Either way, you get thrown out."

1 Thess 5:3 "For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden
destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child;
and they shall not escape."

-----begin article-----

A call for Christian leaders world-wide to declare 2000 a year of
no conflicts in the Holy Land was issued by Deputy Religious
Affairs Minister Yigal Bibi.

The deputy minister expressed the hope that by the year 2000, there
would be peace in the land and pilgrims could arrive not only via
Israel, Jordan or Egypt, but also by way of Syria, Iraq and
Lebanon.

Also, thirty representatives of orthodox churches world-wide met
in Jerusalem to continue preparations for the celebration of the
2000th anniversary of the birth of Jesus. The group included high-
ranking clergymen as well as several prominent university professors.

Working committees have been set up to deal with ceremonial,
scientific, artistic, public relations and financial issues.

Subject: [BPR] - Alexander the Great

---------------------------------------------------------------
Bible Prophecy Research and Study List
Study Subject: Daniel 11-12
---------------------------------------------------------------

Hello...

I can't seem to get off of verse 4 today. <g>

(Dan 11:4 KJV) "And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be
broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and
not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he
ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others
beside those."

"...not to his posterity" is the phrase that I want to write a
little about.

Other translations express the idea more clearly perhaps:

(Dan 11:4 NASB) "But as soon as he has arisen, his kingdom will
be broken up and parceled out toward the four points of the
compass, though not to his own descendants..."

The word "posterity" has an interesting bit of thinking behind
it. First of all, the word has been translated from 'achariyth
[Strong's 319] which has the general meaning of "after," "later,"
"behind," or "following." According the Hebrew-Greek Key Study
Bible (page 1710) "the Hebrew way of thinking was like a man
rowing a boat; he backs into the future."

None of us of course can even look one second into the future.
While thinking upon this today, I was again impressed with that
"invisible force" of the ruwach.

Just as Dan 11:4 predicts, the kingdom of Alexander the Great (as
we can plainly see today) was not left to his descendants, but
was instead parceled out shortly after his death. What makes
this bit of prophecy all the more interesting, is the mystery
behind the death of Alexander the Great.

The following concerning the death of Alexander comes from
http://wso.williams.edu/~junterek/death.htm:

-- begin section --

The death of Alexander the Great is still shrouded in mystery to
this day. It seems hard to believe that a 33-year-old man could
die of natural causes that spring up out of the blue, and
consequently, modern historians have made many attempts to
explain exactly what happened. According to Plutarch, the events
leading up to his death are as follows:

Alexander proceeded to Babylon, even after receiving word of
several bad omens, such as ravens fighting each other over the
city wall with some falling dead right in front of him, a man
with a deformed liver being sacrificed in the king's honor, and
his best lion was kicked to death by an ass. The god Serapis told
a man to put on the king's robes and sit upon the throne. These
all served as warnings to Alexander about what may lie in store
for him, but they did not deter him.

Once in Babylon, he drank heavily at several banquets. One such
banquet was hosted by his friend, Medius. In the Armenian version
of the story, Psuedo-Callisthenes wrote that this banquet was a
conspiracy involving Iollas, Cassander, and others who were
unhappy with Alexander. They gave him poisoned wine, and
immediately after drinking it, Alexander felt as if he had "been
hit in the liver with an arrow." When he tried to throw it back
up, he was given a poisoned feather, which ensured that the
poison would reach his blood stream. He proceeded to get very
sick and his condition deteriorated until his death. Plutarch did
not believe this version, saying the sudden pain Alexander felt
after drinking was a detail "with which certain historians felt
obliged to embellish the occasion, and thus invent a tragic and
moving finale to a great action. Aristobulus tells us that he was
seized with a raging fever, that when he became thirsty he drank
wine which made him delirious."

We will probably never know the truth, even though new theories
are still coming out. We do know that on the 7th of June, 323 BC,
the Macedonians were allowed to file past their leader for the
last time and finally, three days later, he succumbed to the
illness. Thus, on June 10, 323 BC, Alexander the Great died at
the age of 33.

-- end section --

Apparently the tomb of Alexander, which was in Alexandria for at
least 300 years, has disappeared as well, though there are some
rumors as to its discovery. Nevertheless, his death and burial
still remain a mystery.

"Shortly after his death, Philip, his half-brother; Alexander II,
his legitimate son; and Hercules, his illegitimate son, were all
three murdered and Alexander's four generals took over"
[Wilmington's Guide to the Bible]. Just as Dan 11:4 aluded to so
many years earlier, we see a kingdom divided not to the rightful
heirs, but to others. The NASB version uses the word "uprooted"
when speaking of Alexander's kingdom being given to others.
Interesting indeed.

If anyone has any other information concerning the death of
Alexander the Great, please pass it on to us.

Subject: [BPR] - Antioch

---------------------------------------------------------------
Bible Prophecy Research and Study List
Study Subject: Daniel 11-12
---------------------------------------------------------------

Antioch (Antakya) is a city in Hatay province in southern Turkey.
Situated on the banks of the Orontes River about 22 km (14 mi) from
the Mediterranean, Antioch has a population of 124,443 (1990). Its
economy depends on olives and tobacco.

Of major importance in the ancient world, Antioch was established as
the western capital of the Seleucid kingdom in 300 BC by Seleucus I
Nicator, who named it in memory of his father, Antiochus. Colonists
were brought in from Athens and Macedonia, and the city remained the
Seleucid capital until 64 BC, when it was taken over by the Romans.
Eventually it became the third-largest city in the Roman Empire
(after Rome and Alexandria). One of the earliest centers of
Christianity, Antioch was the site of Saint Paul's first mission to
the Gentiles; Saint Peter also preached there. The city was destroyed
by earthquakes in AD 526 and 528. In 1517 it was taken by Selim I
for the Ottoman Empire.

----------
The division of the Roman Empire between two emperors, one ruling the
west from Rome, the other the east from Constantinople, reflected,
among other things, the strength of quite different civilizations that
had persisted in the two areas. The Eastern, later called Byzantine,
empire was Greek in language and, through its Hellenistic background,
closely tied to the ancient civilizations of the Middle East, one of
which, the Persian, was to be its chief rival for many years. The
Western empire, Latin in language, was profoundly influenced both by
its Roman past and by the Germanic invaders who began to overrun its
territories. By the end of the 5th century these Germanic tribes had
effectively put an end to the Western empire, leaving the head of the
Western branch of Christianity, the patriarch or pope of Rome, as the
sole symbol of unity in that area. Meanwhile, in the east, the emperor
still ruled, and authority in the church was divided among the
patriarchs of the three great sees of the church, Constantinople,
Antioch in Syria, and Alexandria in Egypt.

----------
catholic

The word catholic comes from the Greek word Katholikos, meaning
"universal." It was first used by Ignatius of Antioch (d. about AD
107) to distinguish the entire body of Christians from individual
congregations. Subsequently, the word distinguished true believers
from false believers. After the break (1054) between the Western
church and the Eastern church, it was used to identify the Western
church; the Eastern church was called orthodox. At the time of the
reformation in the 16th century, the Church of Rome claimed the word
catholic as its title over the Protestant or Reformed churches. In
England, catholic was retained to describe the reformed, national
church, although a distinction was made between "Roman" Catholics and
members of the Church of England. The term Anglo-Catholic was coined
at the time of the Oxford Movement in the 19th century. In popular
usage, Catholic commonly designates a Christian affiliated with the
Church of Rome.

-----
Orthodox church

One of the three branches of world Christianity and the major
Christian church in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, the Orthodox
church, also sometimes called the Eastern church, or the Greek
Orthodox, or Orthodox Catholic church, claims to have preserved the
original and apostolic Christian faith. Figures for its worldwide
membership range from 100 to 200 million, depending on the method of
accounting.

The Orthodox church is a fellowship of administratively independent,
or autocephalous (self-governing) local churches, united in faith,
sacraments, and canonical discipline, each enjoying the right to elect
its own head and its bishops. Traditionally, the ecumenical patriarch
of Constantinople (Istanbul) is recognized as the "first among equal"
Orthodox bishops. He possesses privileges of chairmanship and
initiative but no direct doctrinal or administrative authority. The
other heads of autocephalous churches, in order of precedence, are:
the patriarch of Alexandria, Egypt, with jurisdiction over Africa;
the patriarch of Antioch, now residing in Damascus, Syria, and heading
Arab-speaking Orthodox Christians in Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq; the
patriarch of Jerusalem, with jurisdiction over Palestine; the
patriarch of Moscow and all Russia; the patriarch-catholicos of
Georgia (USSR); the patriarch of Serbia (Yugoslavia); the patriarch
of Romania; the patriarch of Bulgaria; the archbishop of Cyprus;
the archbishop of Athens and all Greece; the metropolitan of Warsaw
and all Poland; the archbishop of Albania (presently suppressed);
the metropolitan of Prague and all Czechoslovakia; and the
archbishop of New York and North America.

The Orthodox church recognizes as authoritative the decisions of the
seven ecumenical councils that met between 325 and 787 and defined
the basic doctrines on the trinity and the incarnation. In later
centuries Orthodox councils also made doctrinal definitions on grace
(1341, 1351) and took a stand in reference to Western teachings. The
Orthodox church accepts the early traditions of Christianity,
including the same sacraments as the Roman Catholic church--although
in the Orthodox church infants receive the Eucharist and
confirmation--and the episcopate and the priesthood, understood in the
light of Apostolic succession. Married men may become priests, but
bishops and monks may not marry. The veneration of Mary, as Mother of
God is central to Orthodox worship, and the intercession of saints is
emphasized in the Orthodox liturgical tradition. After an early
controversy on the subject, the images, or icons, of Christ, the
Virgin Mary, and the saints are now seen as visible witnesses to the
fact that God has taken human flesh in the person of Jesus.

The Orthodox church has been generally quite open to the
contemporary Ecumenical movement. One by one, the autocephalous
churches have all joined the Protestant-initiated World Council of
Churches, without modifying their own view on Christian unity, but
considering the council as an acceptable forum for dialogue and
cooperation with other Christians. The recent steps taken by the
Roman Catholic church and the decrees of the Second Vatican Council
were seen by the Orthodox as promising groundwork for the future, and
this positive reaction was witnessed by several meetings between
Orthodox and Catholic leaders, including participation by Vatican
representatives in ceremonies marking the thousandth anniversary of
Russian Christianity in 1988.

(Grolier's Encylcopedia, 1995)

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Antioch: In Syria. The capital of the Greek kings of Syria, and
afterwards the residence of the Roman governors of the province which
bore the same name. This metropolis was situated where the chain of
Lebanon, running northwards, and the chain of Taurus, running
eastwards, are brought to an abrupt meeting. Here the Orontes breaks
through the mountains; and Antioch was placed at a bend of the river,
partly on an island, partly on the level which forms the left bank,
and partly on the steep and craggy ascent of Mount Silpius, which
rose abruptly on the south. In the immediate neighborhood was Daphne,
the celebrated sanctuary of Apollo; whence the city was sometimes
called Antioch by Daphne, to distinguish it from other cities of the
same name.

No city, after Jerusalem, is so intimately connnected with the history
of the apostolic church...it was at Antioch that St. Paul rebuked
St. Peter for conduct into which he had been betrayed through the
influence of emissaries from Jerusalem (Gal 2:11,12)...here the
disciples of Jesus Christ were first called Christians (Acts 11:26).

(Dr. William Smith's Dictionary of the Bible, 1872)

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Seleucus Nicator...possessed with a mania for building cities and
calling them after himself or his relatives, he founded no fewer than
37, of which 4 are mentioned in the NT--(1) Antioch of Syria
(Acts 11:19), (2) Seleucia (Acts 13:4), (3) Antioch of Pisidia
(Acts 13:14; 14:21; 2 Tim 3:11), and (4) Laodicea (Col 4:13-16;
Rev 1:11; 3:14). The most famous of the 16 Antiochs, which he built
and named after his father Antiochus, was Antioch on the Orontes in
Syria. The spot was carefully chosen, and religous sanction given to
it by the invention of a story that sacred birds had revealed the site
while he watched their flight from a neighbouring eminence. It was
politically of advantage that the seat of empire should be removed
from the Euphrates valley to a locality nearer the Mediterranean.

When Christianity reached Antioch, it was a great city of over
500,000 inhabitants, called the "Queen of the East," the "Third
Metropolis of the Roman Empire." In "Antioch the Beautiful" there was
to be found everything which Italian wealth, Greek aestheticism, and
Oriental luxury could produce. The ancient writers, however, are
unanimous in describing the city as one of the foulest and most
depraved in the world. Cosmopolitan in disposition, the citizens
acted as if they were emancipated from every law, human or Divine.
Licentiousness, superstition, quackery, indency, every fierce and base
passion, were displayed by the populace; their skill in coining
scurrilous verses was notorious, their sordid, fickle, turbulent, and
insolent ways rendered the name of Antioch a byword for all that was
wicked.

Antioch had the honour of being the birthplace of (1) the name
"Christian" (Acts 11:26), and (2) of foreign missions. From this city
Paul and Barnabas started on their first missionary journey
(Acts 13:1-4), and to Antioch they returned at the end of the tour
(Acts 14:26). The second journey was begun from an ended at Antioch
(Acts 15:35-41, 18:22); and the city was again the starting-point of
the third tour (Acts 18:23).

After the fall of Jerusalem, Antioch became the true centre of
Christianity....From AD 252-380 Antioch was the scene of ten Church
Councils. The Patriarch of Antioch took precedence of those of
Rome, Constantinople, Jerusalem, and Alexandria.

(Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible)

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Antioch, the ancient capital of the Greek kings of Syria, and long the
chief city in Asia, located on the left bank of the Orontes River, 14
miles from the sea. The city waws erected by Seleucus Nicator, founder
of the Seleucid dynasty, about 300 BC, and was the most splendid of the
sixteen cities built by him in honour of his father Anticohus. The
city reached its greatest glory in the time of King Antiochus the
Great, and under the Roman emperors of the first three centures.

Rome, Alexandria, and Antioch were the three greatest cities of the
Roman world. At Antioch the Roman governor of Syria resided, and it
was the favorite residence of the Roman emperors. It had a great
library and a school of philosophy. It was destroyed by earthquakes
ten times in the first six centuries.

Hmm... interesting. I have a file over here somewhere that presents
evidence of the present day Kurds as being the direct descendants of
the Medes.

We know that Persia is Iran, correct? Did the land of Media get
"swallowed" up by Persia then?

Also, the line of Japheth would make for an interesting study, in
that I've seen a couple of articles outlining the possibility that
the anti-Christ will come from that line. Just from our Daniel
study alone, we've seen that Cyrus was of the line of Japheth, as
well as Alexander the Great.

Daniel 11:1
"Also I in the first year of Darius the Mede, even I, stood to confirm and
to strengthen him."

 Daniel 5.31
Ver. 31. "And Darius the Median took the kingdom," This was Cyaxares
the son of Astyages, and uncle of Cyrus; he is called the Median, to
distinguish him from another Darius the Persian, that came after,
(Ezra 4:5), the same took the kingdom of Babylon from Cyrus who conquered
it; he took it with his consent, being the senior prince and his uncle.
Darius reigned not long, but two years; and not alone, but Cyrus with
him, though he is only mentioned. Xenophon says, that Cyrus, after
he took Babylon, set out for Persia, and took Media on his way; and,
saluting Cyaxares or Darius, said that there was a choice house and
court for him in Babylon, where he might go and live as in his own:

"being about threescore and two years old"; and so was born in the eighth
year of Nebuchadnezzar, the year in which Jechoniah was carried
captive, (2 Kings 24:12), thus God in his counsels and providence took care
that a deliverer of his people should be raised up and provided against
the appointed time. Darius was older than Cyrus, as appears by several
passages in Xenophon; in one place Cyaxares or Darius says,

"since I am present, and am 'elder' than Cyrus, it is fit that
      I should speak first;"

and in another place, Cyrus, writing to him, says,

"I give thee counsel, though I am the younger"

and by comparing this account of the age of Darius with a passage in
Cicero, which gives the age of Cyrus, we learn how much older than he
Darius was; for, out of the books of Dionysius the Persian, he relates,
that Cyrus dreaming he saw the sun at his feet, which he three
times endeavoured to catch and lay hold upon, but in vain, it sliding
from him; this, the Magi said, portended that he should reign thirty
years, and so he did; for he lived to be seventy years of age, and
began to reign when he was forty; which, if reckoned from his reigning
with his uncle, then he must be twenty two years younger; or if from
the time of his being sole monarch, then the difference of age between
them must be twenty four years; though it should be observed that those
that make him to reign thirty years begin his reign from the time of
his being appointed commander-in-chief of the Medes and Persians by
Cyaxares, which was twenty three years before he reigned alone,
which was but seven years; and this account makes but very little
difference in their age; and indeed some have taken them to be one
and the same, their descent, age, and succession in the Babylonian
 empire, agreeing.

(The New John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible)
==========

Darius: the name of several kings of Media and Persia. Herodotus says that
the name is equivalent to "the restrainer"; three kings bearing this name
are mentioned in the OT.

Darius the Mede, "the son of Ahasuerus of the seed of the Medes," who
succeeded to the Babylonian kingdom on the death of Belshazzar, being then
sixty-two years old. Only one year of his reign is mentioned; but that was
of great importance for the Jews. Daniel was advanced by the king to the
highest dignity, probably in consequence of his former services; and after
his miraculous deliverance, Darius issued a decree enjoining througout
his dominions "reverence for the God of Daniel" (Dan 6:25).

The extreme obscurity of the Babylonian annals has given occasion to three
different hypotheses as to the name under which Darius the Mede is known in
history. The first of these, which identifies him with Darius Hystaspis,
rests on no plausible evidence, and may be dismissed at once. The second,
which was adopted by Josephus, and has been supported by many recent critics
is more deserving of notice. According to this he was "the son and successor
of Astyages," who is commonly regarded as the last king of Media. It is
supposed that the reign of this Cyaxares has been neglected by historians
from the fact that through his indolence and luxury he yielded the real
exercise of power to his nephew Cyrus, who married his daughter, and so
after his death received the crown by direct succession...Herodotus
expressly states that "Astyages" was the last king of the Medes, that he
was conquered by Cyrus, and that he died without leaving any male
issue...A third identification remains, by which Darius is represented
as the personal name of "Astyages," the last king of the Medes...The name
"Astyages" was national and not personal, and Ahasuerus represents the
name Cyaxares, borne by the father of "Astyages"...If, as seems most
probable, Darius (Astyages) occupied the throne of Babylon as supreme
sovereign with Nerigalsarassar as vassal-prince, after the murder of
Evil-merodach (Belshazzar) BC 559, one year only remains for this Median
supremacy before the victory of Cyrus BC 558, in exact accordance with the
notices in Daniel and the apparent incompleteness of the political
arrangements which Darius "purposed" to make (Dan 6:3).
--------------------
Astyages, the last king of the Medes, BC 595-560, or BC 592-558. The name is
identified...[as] "the biting snake," the emblem of the Median power.
--------------------
Ahasuerus, the name of one Median and two Persian kings mentioned in the OT.
It may be desirable to prefix to this...a chronological table of the
Medo-Persian kings from Cyaxares to Artaxerxes Longimanus, according to
their ordinary classical names.

1. Cyaxares, king of Media, son of Phraortes, grandson of Deioces and
conqueror of Nineveh, began to reign BC 634.
2. Astyages his son, last king of Media, BC 594.
3. Cyrus, son of his daughter Mandane and Cambyses, a Persian noble,
first king of Persia, 559.
4. Cambyses his son, 529.
5. A Magian usurper, who personates Smerdis, the younger son of Cyrus, 521.
6. Darius Hystaspis, raised to the throne on the overthrow of the Magi, 521.
7. Xerxes, his son, 485.
8. Artaxerxes Longimanus (Macrocheir), his son, 465-495.

In Daniel 9:1, Ahasuerus is said to be the father of Darius the Mede. Now
it is almost certain that Cyaxares is a form of Ahasuerus, grecized into
Axares with the prefix Cy- or Kai-, common to the Kaianian dynasty of kings,
with which may be compared Kai Khosroo, the Persian name of Cyrus. The son
of this Cyaxares was Astyages, and it is no improbable conjecture that
Darius the Mede wass Astyages, set over Babylon as viceroy by his grandson
Cyrus, and allowed to live there in royal state.

sons of Japheth, with no allusion to the Persians. So the Medes and not the
Persians are mentioned in prophecy as the prospective destroyers of Babylon
(Isa 13:17; 21:2; Jer 25:25; 51:11). (Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible)
====================
Joel 1:4 describes 4 types of locusts:
1.palmerworm: cutting locust
2.locust: swarming locust
3.cankerworm: hopping locust
4.caterpillar: destroying locust

Jerome relates that the Hebrews interpreted the four as:
1. palmerworm - Assyrians, Babylonians, and Chaldeans
2. locust - Medes and Persians
3. cankerworm - Macedonians, and all the successors of Alexander; especially
King Antiochus
4. caterpillar - Roman Empire
====================
[O}ne of the names of a locust is, "Arbeh," not much unlike in sound to an
Arab.
To which may be added, that it is a tradition of the Arabians, that there fell
locusts into the hands of Mahomet [Mohammad], on whose backs and wings were
written these words;

"we are the army of the most high God; we are the ninety and nine eggs, and if
the hundred should be made perfect, we should consume the whole world, and
whatever is in it."

And it was a law established by Mahomet, ye shall not kill the locusts, for
they are the army of the most high God; and the Mahometans fancy that the
locusts were made of the same clay as Adam was: and besides the tradition
before mentioned, they say, that as Mahomet sat at table a locust fell, with
these words
on its back and wings;

"I am God, neither is there any Lord of the locusts besides me, who feed them;
and when I please I send them to be food to the people, and when I please I
send
them to be a scourge unto them;"

...five months is the time that locusts live, and are in their strength and
power, even the five, hottest months in the year, from April to September.

"The Use of Eleven Languages is an Asset Which We Have No Desire

The European, Feb 23-Mar 1, 1998

The inauguration of the European Parliament's new building in Brussels
by the King of the Belgians, Albert II, was almost overshadowed by a
diplomatic storm in a tasse de the [cup of tea].

French MEPs cried foul when they learned that the President of
Parliament, Jose Maria Gil-Robles made his speech in French, German,
Dutch and his native Spanish.

He said in his address: "The use of 11 languages in our daily
business represents an asset which we have no desire to lose."

The plaque on the wall of the Parliament building which commemorates
the inauguration is in a relatively uncontentious lingua franca [common
language]: Latin.

2 Peter 2:1--But there were false prophets also among the people, even
as there shall be false teachers among you who privily shall bring in
damnable heresies...

-----begin article-----

NOW IT IS TIME TO PUT INTO PRACTICE WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW TO BE TRUE:
"If enough people join their minds and hearts for peace, we can heal
the world."

            Here's the Question:

Can millions of people, focusing their minds on inner and world peace,
heal the world in an instant?

Can we, through scientific and quantifiable means, prove that we are
indeed the creators of the world we perceive, and that by changing our
perception, the world itself changes?

             This is "The Great Experiment."

It's time we prove scientifically what the saints and sages have
always told us- that we are powerful spiritual beings with the ability
to create a world based on the laws of love, instead of the rules of
fear.

Two months ago, James Twyman, author of the bestselling book,
"Emissary of Light," was invited by the government of Iraq to perform
his "Peace concert" in Baghdad. The situation seemed desparate war
seemed almost inevitable and diplomatic efforts seemed to have failed.

"I was being used by the Iraqi government," Twyman said. "But we had
the same goal: to avoid this terrible war. I was given permission to
sing the Muslim prayer for peace to Saddam Hussein and I wanted the
world to join us in this prayer. Hundreds of thousands of people over
the world participated, and when it was complete, I felt a profound
shift in the energy of that whole region. Three days later, a peace
agreement was signed, something which seemed impossible before the
prayer vigil began."

             But The Story Continues . . .

"A week later, I was invited by the government of Northern Ireland to
sing at Stormout Castle in Belfast - the building where the peace talks
were being held. For days, bombs were exploding all around that area.
Many people were trying to interrupt the peace process and it seemed
like the talks might fall apart. Once again, thousands around the
world joined us in prayer, and three days later there was a
breakthrough in the talks. April 12, 1998, a peace accord was reached.

The evidence is there - we do have the power within us to change the
world. Scientists have measured the statistically significant effect
that focused meditations and events have upon the earth's energy
field. These effects were measured during the GaiaMind Meditation and
during Princess Diana's funeral. The studies show that the greatest
effects occur when groups synchronize their focus. During "The Great
Experiment," we will meditate upon specific affirmations in unison to
achieve the power of a singular group focus.

NOW IT IS TIME TO PUT INTO PRACTICE
WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW TO BE TRUE:

"If enough people join their minds and hearts for peace, we can heal
the world."

"The Great Experiment" will take place on April 23rd at 6:30 PM
Eastern Daylight Savings Time ( This would be 10:30 PM GMT ) Please
mark your calendars now, and tell everyone that you know to join with
us.

James Twyman has been invited to sing the peace prayers from the
twelve major religions at the United Nations building in New York on
April 23rd. This presents an unparalleled opportunity for us all. Dr.
Doreen Virtue, best-selling author of The Lightworker's Way, and Gregg
Braden, geologist and author of Awakening to Zero Point and Walking
Between the Worlds, join James in conducting this incredible
experiment. Authors, entertainers, and other celebrities, will
participate by sharing their vision of "a world transformed by love."

Here's how you can participate:

1. Tell everyone you know. Share this with everyone on your mailing
list so that everyone can participate. Feel free to print this out and
make copies. The goal is to get as many people as possible focused on
this meditation.

2. Begin preparing your spirit and mind for the event by spending a
few moments in silence everyday. This will help build the energy.

3. Join at least one other person for the vigil on April 23rd. This is
an experience to share. "Where two or more are gathered."

The Format of the Meditation:

1. Opening:

Begin with this affirmation, said with great power and committment:

I am an Emissary of Light. I extend this Light to all beings, in
compassion and love, knowing that they are one within me. this
moment the world is healed - and I along with it. I will it - and
it is so.

2. Then spend five minutes creating a sound (such as "Om") to carry
the spiritual energy and vibration. This can be done with a single
tone or by singing a song such as "Amazing Grace."

3. Spend five minutes in silence allowing your spirit to receive the
light and love which you yourself extended to the world.

4. End with this prayer:

"It is done! I am one with all - and all is healed. Let love
reign where fear once was. I accept this for myself and for the
world. I am an Emissary of Light now and always. Amen"

Then, with reverence, bow your head and thank God for this grand
opportunity. The universe gives thanks to you for being part of this
great experiment.

The following report comes from Betsy Stang, Executive Director of THE
WITTENBERG CENTER, a not-for-profit, publicly-supported organization with
consultative status with THE UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC & SOCIAL COUNCIL.
THE CENTER'S purpose is to facilitate a bridging of the ancient wisdom
with contemporary life. THE WITTENBERG CENTER is dedicated to creating
forums for the dissemination of information about indigenous cultures,
Earth awareness, appropriate technology and personal and planetary
transformation.

------------
[NHNE=New Heaven, New Earth website]

NHNE: Betsy, can you tell us how many people showed up at the UN-related
event in Manhattan?

STANG: There were about 100 people present. The event was part of a
UNITED NATION'S Values Caucus meeting to honor The Association of
Permanent Representatives who have been having monthly off-the-record
discussions with NGOs (NON GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS with either
observer or consultative status at the UNITED NATIONS). The Values Caucus
is chaired by Deborah Moldow of THE WORLD PEACE PRAYER SOCIETY and James
presented a beautiful song on May Peace Prevail on Earth. This is the
time of the yearly meetings of THE COMMISSION ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
when governments and civil society come together looking at ways to
create a more sustainable planet. Obviously all prayers are needed in
this endeavor.

NHNE: Where was the meditation held -- in one of the UN buildings, or
somewhere else?

STANG: The event was held at the UNITED NATION'S CHURCH CENTER, across
the street from headquarters.

NHNE: Who, exactly, invited Twyman [promoter of "The Great Experiment"]
to the UN?

STANG: I'm not sure.

NHNE: Were there any other authors, entertainers, and other celebrities
that showed up with Twyman?

STANG: No, this was an invitational only event.

NHNE: The information posted on The Great Experiment Website suggested
that Dr. Doreen Virtue, best-selling author of The Lightworker's Way, and
Gregg Braden, geologist and author of Awaken to Zero Point, would be
joining Twyman. Are you saying that Twyman was the only one who was
invited and, therefore, the only one who attended the meeting?

STANG: Not quite. We, The NGO Values Caucus, organized the event to honor
the Ambassadors and one of the members invited James to play a mini
concert. We only found out about the Great Experiment by email.

NHNE: Can you tell us if the meditation steps Twyman outlined for The
Great Experiment were used at the meeting?

STANG: Yes, these steps were used.

NHNE: Do you have any additional thoughts you would like to share with us?

STANG: James was part of an ongoing energy of different spiritual
traditions coming together to work towards a more peaceful, just and
sustainable world. Throughout the day, I was aware of how many people are
working in their own ways and in their own traditions, whether old or
new, to make a difference at this critical time.

One thing of note, this Sunday marks 4 years, 4 months, 4 weeks, 4 days
since the Cry of the Earth, when the prophecies of the Hopi, Iroquois,
Lakota, Annishinabe, Mik Mac, Mayan and Huichol peoples were finally told
at the UNITED NATIONS on November 22, 1993. The Hopi elders said that the
determination of the Earth changes would be decided within that time, and
that all people needed to commit themselves to making a difference. So
now we will see. The elders of the indigenous traditions have said that
when people link in focus around the world, it makes a huge difference.
James did say that scientists were doing some measurements of the event
and its effects. Yesterday was also the worldwide commemoration of the
Holocaust.

It is important to note that there are also calls for world linkage in
prayer on June 21 for World Peace and Prayer Day, September 26 for the
Prayer Vigil for the Earth, and on December 8th. There is also the
worldwide system of Peace Chambers link at 7 PM on the 7th of every month
for prayer. Perhaps we should be training ourselves to pray for global
healing every day. This world certainly needs more prayer.

I hope this is helpful.

NHNE: Yes. Thank you very much for taking the time to share this with all
of us.

I first read about in Robert van Kampen's book "The Sign." We know
of eight beast empires in regards to Daniel's prophecy. Van Kampen
points out that:

Empire #1 - Egyptian (from the line of Ham)
Empire #2 - Assyrian (from the line of Shem)
Empire #3 - Babylonian (probably of Shem)
Empire #4 - Medo-Persia (line of Japheth)

It was during the fourth empire when Daniel got his "seventy weeks
vision." So the seventy weeks starts with the Gentile domination of
Israel by an empire of the line of Japheth.

Empire #5 - Greek (line of Japheth)
Empire #6 - Roman (line of Japheth)
Empire #7 - Van Kampen theorizes that it was Nazi Germany which is
                   Japhetic.
Empire #8 - remains to be seen, but looking at the previous four
empires, the line of Japheth is a good possibility. And since many
believe that a revived Roman Empire is the 8th beast, this would fall
in line with Japheth.

There's a article at http://www.khouse.org about the genealogy of the
anti-Christ. He speculates about a link between Antiochus and Titus.
He further goes into the various European families and dynasties that
could possibly be link to the future anti-Christ. I'll quote a
little bit of it, because I get lost with all of these various family
names. I'm certainly clueless about European genealogies:

--- begin quote ---

In the fifth century the royal line of the Franks intermarried with
the Merovingian dynasty, which ultimately links with the family trees
of the Habsburgs, the House of Lorraine, Plantard, Luxembourg,
Pont, zat, Montesquieu, Sinclair, Stuarts, and most of the royal
families of Europe. Among contemporary luminaries are Otto von
Habsburg of Austria11 and his son, Karl, and King Juan Carlos I of
Spain and his son, Felipe.

[It is from this type of background that some consider King Juan
Carlos of Spain or his son Felipe as possible candidates. The lineage
of the son includes 2 German emperors, 8 kings of Denmark, 5 kings of
Sweden, 7 Czars of Russia, 1 king and 1 queen of Norway, 1 queen of
England and 5 kings of Greece.]

--- end quote ---

Antiochus' reign is seen by some to be a foreshadow or "type" of
future anti-Christ. Because of this, I think a genealogy or a look
at his family tree would be interesting. Difficult to search, but
interesting nonetheless. What would make this even more interesting,
if Antiochus were related to Titus somehow and so on to Hitler. Just
interesting... that's all. <g>

Hmmm... wouldn't biographies of each of these key figures be nice for
the web site? <bg>

Hello,

Regarding the genealogy, where did you read that antichrist would come
from the line of Japheth? Both the Greeks (Antiochus) and the Romans
(Titus) are supposed to have come from Japeth ("light," "fair"). As far
as connecting them, I've been trying to check that out with Josephus,
but it is very confusing. I think there is a connection from the
Antiochus Dynasty to the Herod's who were ruling Judea for the Romans
when Titus came and trashed Jerusalem. I'll keep an eye peeled.

Greetings All...

I'm looking for information on a monument near the Golan Heights
called Gilgal Rephaim. It apparently is a stonehenge-like
concentric monument built 5,000 years ago for ritual purposes.
Apparently the concentric features of this design can only be
appreciated from the air. Interesting, in light that Rephaim is a
post-Flood synonym for Nephilim.

This information I got is from Koinonia House's Personal Update, but
this is all the information I have on it. Anyone coming across any
further info on this, I would appreciate it if you would consider

FEATURE-Israel and U.S. - a 50-year love affair?

            By Patrick Worsnip
            WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Israel's upcoming 50th anniversary
marks a golden wedding with the United States, the country that
has helped to ensure the survival of the Jewish state surrounded
by Arab neighbors who long sought its destruction.
So Israeli and U.S. leaders say. Many Arabs see the
relationship differently. For them, Israel is the ``spoiled
child'' of America that has, by default, permitted it to occupy
other people's land in the name of its security concerns in a
way that no other country has been allowed to do.
All agree that, for better or for worse, the U.S.-Israeli
relationship is one of unique inter-dependence.
For Israel, the United States is the one country it cannot
afford to alienate, which underwrites its security, keeps it
supplied with an annual $3 billion in civil and military aid,
and defends its actions, sometimes alone, on the world stage.
For the United States, tiny Israel is the one foreign
country to which any aspiring national politician must swear
unfailing devotion. Every U.S. president from Harry Truman, who
recognized Israel within hours of its proclamation on May 14,
1948, to Bill Clinton, has at one time or another uttered
glowing tributes to the Jewish state.
Democrat Jimmy Carter, president from 1977-81, said Israel's
survival was ``not just a political issue, it is a moral
imperative.'' Republican Ronald Reagan (1981-89), who called
Israel ``a land of stability and democracy in a region of
tyranny and unrest,'' launched a ``strategic partnership'' that
cast Israel as a Cold War ally, but the concept lost much of its
currency after the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991.

            NOT ALWAYS A SMOOTH RELATIONSHIP
Like most love affairs, that between Israel and the United
States has not always been smooth, particularly in the early
years when many U.S. officials believed Washington's main
interests in the region lay in the Arab world. In the 1956 Suez
crisis Washington opposed the Israeli-British-French attack on
Egypt and forced Israel to withdraw virtually empty-handed.
Broad U.S. regional concerns also caused friction at times
in Washington's later peacemaking efforts after the 1973 Middle
East war, in the 1978 Camp David Israeli-Egyptian talks, and in
the most recent phase that began in 1991. Striving to be an
honest broker and to maintain Israel's military ``qualitative
edge'' over the Arabs, the United States has had to balance its
desire for Middle East peace against Israel's security needs.
It has done so amid pro-Israeli sentiment in the U.S.
political world that historians say began with the 1967 Six Day
War. Israel's successes then against much larger Arab forces
aroused strong sympathies in the United States and galvanized
American Jews to its defense.
Since then, U.S. Jewish organizations have flexed growing
political and financial muscle. One, the American-Israel Public
Affairs Committee (AIPAC), has been rated by Fortune magazine as
the second most influential lobby group in the land.
``We hope our contribution is to make sure that U.S.
officials continue to be supportive of the relationship between
the United States and Israel, to see that the bonds remain
strong on every level,'' AIPAC Executive Director Howard Kohr
said in a telephone interview.
The result, according to Israeli scholar Shai Feldman, is
that ``Israel has become an integral part of America's domestic
political agenda,'' perhaps the only foreign issue to be so.

COMPETITION FOR SUPPORT OF AMERICAN JEWS
Competition for the support of America's 6 million Jews has
intensified as once-monolithic Jewish support for Democrats has
frayed. ``Thirty years ago Bill Clinton wouldn't have cared so
much because (Jews) were automatically in the Democratic
Party,'' said one administration official.
            Traditionally presidential candidates, including Clinton,
have toned down their pro-Israeli rhetoric once in office, but
powerful sympathies for the Jewish state in Congress remain a
major influence on the administration.
Earlier this month, no less than 81 of the 100 U.S. senators
wrote to Clinton expressing concern that he might try to force
on Israel a Middle East peace plan that failed to protect its
interests.
Significantly, the most ringing pro-Israeli statements in
Congress have come not just from Jews but from Christians from
America's Southern Bible Belt whose Israel-centred view of the
Middle East stems from their reading of the Old Testament.
Domestic pressures on the administration receded into the
background while Israel had a Labor government from 1992-96 that
broadly shared the U.S. vision of a comprehensive accord that
would mean trading land for peace with the Arabs. But they have
come back with a vengeance with the advent of a right-wing Likud
government under Benjamin Netanyahu that has been much more
reluctant to cede territory.
The resulting year-long deadlock in the peace process looks
set, ultimately, to push Clinton into a painful choice between a
foreign policy that stresses compromise and his domestic
political instinct to put Israel first.

PA Police Force is 60% Larger Than the Israel Police Oslo permits
24,000 police at this stage. PA has deployed 40,000
(communicated by the Israel Government Press Office)

                            -- The Agreement --

According to the September 28, 1995 Interim Agreement ("Oslo 2"), the
Palestinian Authority (PA) may deploy at this stage up to 24,000 policemen
in Judea, Samaria and Gaza, (Annex I, Article IV (3)).
The accord also requires the PA to submit a list of all potential
police recruits to Israel for approval (Annex I, Article IV(4)).
In the Note for the Record attached to the January 15, 1997 Hebron
Protocol, the PA reaffirmed its commitment that the "Size of Palestinian
Police will be pursuant to the Interim Agreement."

                            -- The Violations --

In violation of the accords, the PA has deployed 40,000 policemen,
exceeding the limit set in the Oslo Accords by 16,000, or 66%.
According to the Oslo Accords, the PA must submit a list of all
police recruits to Israel to forestall the possibility that members of
terrorist groups will join the PA security services. The PA has thus far
submitted only 18,400 names. Hence, 21,600 Palestinian policemen, or 54%
of the total force, have not been approved by Israel.
On March 31, 1998, PA Finance Minister Muhammad Nashashibi presented
the 1998 budget to the Palestinian Legislative Council which included
outlays for the salaries of 40,000 Palestinian policemen (Associated
Press, March 31, 1998).
The bloated size of the Palestinian police is particularly evident
when one compares it with other police forces, as the following two tables
indicate
Table 1: Comparison of Size of Israel Police and Palestinian Police
     Population Number of (estimate) Policemen

     PA 2,400,000 40,000
     Israel 5,925,000 25,082
PA 1 policeman per every 60 residents
Israel 1 policeman per every 236 residents
(Israel population estimate supplied by the Israel Central Bureau of
Statistics; estimate for number of Palestinians is based on the 1997 CIA
World Factbook)
Table 1 shows that while Israel's population is more than three times
greater than the number of Palestinians living in PA-controlled areas, the
Palestinian police is 60% larger than the Israel Police.
Table 2 below compares the ratio of policemen per 1,000 residents in
the PA, Israel and various European countries

Table 2: Ratio of Policemen Per 1,000 Residents
     (based on Interpol figures)
                  Number of Policemen
          Entity/Country Per 1,000 Residents
PA 16.7
Spain 4.5
Israel 4.2
France 4.0
Belgium 3.4
Germany 3.2
Switzerland 2.0
As the table indicates, the ratio of policemen per 1,000 residents in
the PA is four times greater than the ratio in Israel or in various
European countries.

JERUSALEM, April 22 (Reuters) - About 80,000 Israelis plan
to lay a symbolic cornerstone for the Jewish settlement at the
heart of the crisis in Middle East peace next week on the 50th
anniversary of Israeli statehood, organisers said on Wednesday.
Israeli security sources said they feared a rise in
Israeli-Palestinian tensions if the ceremony goes ahead as
planned on April 30 at the Har Homa settlement on a hill at the
edge of Arab East Jerusalem known as Jabal Abu Ghneim.

``We have been waiting a long time to build our house on Har
Homa,'' Shmidt told Reuters. ``We have no more suitable day than
the 50th Independence Day.'' He said he expected 80,000 people
bused in from throughout Israel to take part.

-----edit-----

``The prime minister has said repeatedly there will be
houses ready for habitation on Har Homa by the time his first
tenure in office comes to an end which is the year 2000,'' he
said.
Palestinians envisage East Jerusalem as the capital of a
future independent state. Israel captured East Jerusalem in the
1967 Middle East war and annexed it in a move unrecognised
internationally. It views the whole city as its eternal capital.
``The most important thing for Independence Day is to say
that Jerusalem is our capital on all of its borders,'' Haim
Falk, another organiser of the ceremony, told Israel Radio.

Sergei Kiriyenko: Russia's new prime minister

Copyright 1998 by Agence France-Presse
Fri, 24 Apr 1998

MOSCOW, April 24 (AFP) - Sergei Kiriyenko, confirmed Friday as Russia's
new prime minister at the tender age of 35, is the epitome of a new breed of
young managers who could herald a fresh era of government in Russia.

Until a month ago a little-known banker-turned-bureaucrat, Kiriyenko
completed a meteoric rise Friday to become Russia's second-ranking politician
when the State Duma, the lower house of parliament, was finally bullied into
approving him.

-----edit-----

Deputies have warned that with just four months' track record as an energy
minister, Kiriyenko is too inexperienced to hold the second most important post
in a major nuclear power.

-----edit-----

Russian television has pictured him alternately relaxing in the countryside
with his wife, two children and dog, and taking out his frustrations on a
boxing punch bag. Kiriyenko, for all his diminutive stature and baby-faced
demeanour, is a martial arts
fan.

-----edit-----

Kiriyenko was born in 1962 in the Georgian port city of Sukhumi, now the
capital of the breakaway region of Abkhazia, and graduated in 1984 from the
Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod) Railway Engineering Institute.

It was in Nizhny Novgorod, while working for the Communist youth
organization Komsomol and then as the director of the local bank Guaranty,
that he made the acquaintance of fellow rising star Boris Nemtsov, the
regional governor at the time and himself tipped as a future president.

In 1996, Kiriyenko took over as president of the NORSI oil company, before
moving to the federal energy ministry a year later and taking over the
portfolio from Nemtsov in November 1997.

Until late last month, few had heard of the young minister, but Kiriyenko
had a few trump cards up his sleeve, including handy reformist credentials
and a copybook free from the scandals and corruption slurs which have
humbled some of his colleagues.

-----edit-----

And for all his geekish appearance and techno-babble speak, Kiriyenko has
displayed an endearing, homespun philosophy which, allied with a seemingly
effortless humility, have hinted at a light sense of humour behind all the
dark suits.

"My situation is that of a sapper (mine clearance expert)," he was quoted as
saying by the Moskovsky Komsolets daily. "I am only allowed one mistake."

Hi...

While pondering the wind in my previous post, I came across this
interesting tid-bit.

"The Illuminati has changed its name to Moriah ('The Conquering
Wind').

This is in line with the statement of Weishaupt: 'The great strength
of our order lies in its concealment: let it never appear in any
place in its own name, but always covered by another name and another
occupation.'" [Source: http://www.in-search-of.com]

Putting aside any conspiracy beliefs or opinions, we again see the
characteristic "invisible force" of the wind again at work.

The Four Winds of Heaven
From a Study of Daniel 11-13

(Dan 11:4 KJV) "And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be
broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and
not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he
ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others
beside those."

A. The word "wind"

The phrase "four winds" appears six times in the KJV of the Old
Testament and three times in the New. The word translated "wind"
is the Hebrew ruach (or ruwach) [Strong's 7307].

Strong's Definition: wind; by resemblance breath, i.e. a
sensible (or even violent) exhalation; fig. life, anger,
unsubstantiality; by extens. a region of the sky; by resemblance
spirit, but only of a rational being (includ. its expression and
functions).

The Companion Bible further elaborates upon the word ruach (which
can be translated over 22 different ways):

"The meaning of the word is to be deduced only from its usage.
The one root idea running through all the passages is invisible
force. As this force may be exerted in varying forms, and may be
manifested in divers ways, so various renderings are
necessitated, corresponding thereto.

Ruach, in whatever sense it is used, always represents that which
is invisible except by its manifestations. These are seen both
externally to man, as well as internally within man." (The
Companion Bible, Appendix 9, page 13)

B. The number four

To compliment the "invisible force" behind the word ruach, the
symbolism of the number four comes into play.

Again according to the Companion Bible, the number four "denotes
creative works and always has reference to the material creation,
as pertaining to the earth, and things 'under the sun', and
things terrestrial." (Appendix 10, page 14)

So while the usage of the "four winds" in Daniel 11:4 seems to
indicate that the thing spoken of will be split or divided out in
all four directions, we still see the creative, invisible force
of God orchestrating the affairs of men and nations. This idea
of winds indicating direction is seen in the NASB version of Dan
11:4:

(Dan 11:4 NASB) "But as soon as he has arisen, his kingdom will
be broken up and parceled out toward the four points of the
compass, though not to his own descendants, nor according to his
authority which he wielded; for his sovereignty will be uprooted
and given to others besides them."

US APPROVES OF PALESTINIAN STATE: According to a report by Ma'ariv, The
US Administration has given the PA the 'green light' to declare the
establishment of a Palestinian state in May 1999, if Israel and the PA
fail to reach an agreement over the permanent arrangement by that date. US
peace mediator Dennis Ross informed Yitzhaq Molkho, the prime minister's
special adviser, that the US rejects the Israeli demand to include in the
US initiative for renewing the peace process a Palestinian commitment not
to declare a Palestinian state at the end of the interim arrangement
stage.
