Jesus Beats Shakespeare, Lenin

Religious figures top the list of the most famous historical figures--if fame is
measured by the number of books written about a person. Peter Dickson, a
former CIA analyst, recently completed a sweeping analysis of the 18 million
books owned by the Library of Congress, the world's largest library. Counting
the titles devoted to various historical figures, Dickson found that Jesus tops
the chart, with 17,239 books written about him. The Virgin Mary weighs in at
7th, with 3,595 books, while Paul ranks 31st, with 1,341 titles. Paul is
outdone by Buddha (12th, with 2,446 books), Martin Luther (14th, with 2,291
books) and Thomas Aquinas (27th, with 1,424 volumes). As a topic, God
falls between Shakespeare and Lenin, with 7,719 volumes. (God was not
included in Dickson's list, however, because deities lie outside the traditional
definition of "historical figure.") Dickston notes in the Washington Post Book
World that "scientists and inventors...may have had great long-term impact
on the world, but they do not seem to generate the same public fascination
that political, religious or cultural figures do." Here's Dickson's top ten list,
with the number of volumes devoted to each historical figure in parentheses.

South Africa has one of the best-trained militaries in Africa. But the nation's
deputy defense minister tells US News that 2 in 5 of its soldiers may be
infected with HIV. Across the continent, the armed forces are being
hammered by AIDS, with HIV rates exceeding 40 percent in the armies of at
least 10 central and southern African nations. The epidemic complicates
peacekeeping, a Clinton foreign policy staple.

*Because they know soldiers will die from AIDS, some African armies are
deploying hundreds more peacekeepers than requested to compensate.

*** N.Y. judge tightens hacker sentence

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - A teen-age hacker sentenced to five years
without a home computer will need approval to even touch a terminal
for work or school, a judge ruled Tuesday. Jay Satiro, 19, hacked
into America Online's internal computers last year. When his sentence
was imposed in December, employment and education were exempted from
the no-computer rule. But his probation officer, Diane Castiglia,
said letting Satiro near a keyboard "is like putting a drink in front
of an alcoholic." Castiglia said Satiro's mother had tried to keep
him from using her computer by removing the hard drive and locking it
in the car overnight, but he would break into the vehicle. See

*** Jones sues tycoon over offer

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Paula Jones is suing a New York tycoon1 for
the $1 million he had offered her to settle a sexual harassment
lawsuit against President Clinton. The lawsuit against Abe Hirschfeld
contends he broke a signed contract to pay Jones after she settled
with Clinton for $850,000 in November 1998, said Jones' attorney
Gregory Kitterman of Little Rock. "Paula would not have settled with
the president had she not had Abe Hirschfeld's written promise to pay
her," Kitterman said. The lawsuit was filed Feb. 7 in Dallas County,
Texas. Hirschfeld said he had not received a copy of the lawsuit and
would not pay Jones. "I don't owe her nothing," Hirschfeld said in a
telephone interview from his New York home. "She didn't want to take
my money. I gave her the check, she gave it back to me." See

*** Israel eyes change in pullout plan

JERUSALEM (AP) - Israel will consider making minor changes in an
overdue troop withdrawal from the West Bank, officials said Tuesday,
but rejected handing over suburbs of Jerusalem to the Palestinians.
Talks between Israel and the Palestinians broke down earlier this
month after Prime Minister Ehud Barak refused to budge on the terms
of a 6.1% West Bank troop withdrawal that was to have taken place by
Jan. 20. Stressing that the maps showing the territory of the
withdrawal had not been finalized yet, Barak spokesman Gadi
Baltiansky said there was room for some changes, although he would
not specify what they would be. In addition to wanting the Jerusalem
suburbs, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was seeking a contiguous
block of land in the West Bank - a crucial underpinning for

*** Vatican joins Palestinian criticism

VATICAN CITY (AP) - The Vatican joined the Palestinians Tuesday in
condemning Israel's hold over all of Jerusalem as "morally and
legally unacceptable," aggravating the Israelis just a month before
the pope's visit to the Holy Land. An agreement signed by the Vatican
and Palestinian officials called for an internationally guaranteed
statute to preserve "the proper identity and sacred character" of the
city, which is holy to Jews, Christians and Muslims. The text did not
mention Israel by name, but the Jewish state has consistently
considered Jerusalem its indivisible capital since it annexed the
eastern section following the 1967 Mideast War. It has repeatedly

*** German leader spurs anger in Israel

JERUSALEM (AP) - Germany's president came to Israel Tuesday speaking
words of reconciliation, but the language he used to speak them -
German - sparked controversy. Johannes Rau, who assumed office last
May, chose Israel as his first state visit. On Wednesday, he is also
to be the first person to address the Israeli parliament, the
Knesset, in German, touching a nerve in a land where once the mere
idea of establishing ties with Germany set off bloody riots. "It is
the language in which we were persecuted and murdered and tortured
and slandered and cursed," Dov Shilansky, a former Knesset speaker
and a Holocaust survivor, said in a phone interview. "The very sound

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - In a rare show of public gaiety in Islamic Iran,
thousands of young Iranians clasped hands and danced to Westernized
music Tuesday at an election rally for a reformist candidate. Dancing
in public places, even in sexually segregated groups as occurred
Tuesday, is virtually unheard of in Iran. The event showed how many
young Iranians yearn for public freedom in a country where nearly
every aspect of life is dictated by Islamic laws. Social freedoms
form the bedrock of the campaign by reformist candidates in Friday's
elections for the 290-member parliament, or Majlis. Pitted against
the reformists, who are backed by moderate President Mohammad
Khatami, are conservatives who want to maintain the strict Islamic
rule imposed after the 1979 Islamic revolution brought the clergy to

*** ABC pays damages to Psychic network

LOS ANGELES (AP) - ABC paid more than $900,000 to a Psychic Services
Network worker who claimed a secretly made videotape shown on
"PrimeTime Live" ruined his reputation. Mark Sanders received a check
from the network last week, his attorney, Neville Johnson, said
Tuesday. A 1993 lawsuit filed by Sanders claimed an "ABC spy"
secretly taped him and his co-workers at the psychic telephone
counseling firm with the intent of portraying such services as "a
scam and illegitimate." The footage aired on the news magazine
"PrimeTime Live" in February 1993. In 1994, a jury awarded Sanders
$335,000 in compensatory damages and $300,000 in punitive damages.

*** Private company to help keep Mir alive

LONDON (AP) - A Bermuda-registered company said Tuesday it has
reached an agreement to lease Russia's Mir space station in a
last-ditch effort to keep the orbiting platform alive. MirCorp, which
was formed in December, already has paid $20 million to $30 million
to the station to keep it up in space at least through the summer,
said its president, Jeffrey Manber. He said another $40 million would
need to be raised to keep the station afloat through the end of the
year and beyond. "We think that we can come up with clever
imaginative ways to use a manned orbiting platform," Manber said in a
telephone interview from Alexandria, Va. "God bless NASA and all the
government space agencies, but we want to unleash the full

*** House votes to award cardinal medal

WASHINGTON (AP) - The House voted Tuesday to award an ailing Cardinal
John O'Connor the Congressional Gold Medal, the body's highest
civilian honor. The longtime leader of the New York Archdiocese's 2.4
million Roman Catholics recently turned 80 and had surgery last fall
to remove a brain tumor. He is expected to retire as soon as Pope
John Paul II appoints a replacement. The House voted 413-1 to give
the award to O'Connor. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, was the lone opponent.
Paul said he has great respect for the cardinal but opposed the
$30,000 it would cost to mint the medal. Separately, the House voted
410-1 to give a Congressional Gold Medal to "Peanuts" creator Charles
Schulz, who died Saturday. The 77-year-old cartoonist's last strip
featuring Snoopy and the gang was published in Sunday's papers. See

I believe that the Antichrist will enslave and control earth´s billions through a
sophisticated computer fashioned in his likeness. Thus, he will be able to
have all the facts on every member of the human race at his fingertips. With
unerring precision, he will know who receives his orders, obeys his
commands, and honors his laws. Modem computers are already storing
information on members of the human race.

Europe, the magazine of the Common Market, as long ago as 1979 reported
in its September/October issue, “European researchers will soon be linked
through a unique system for computerized data the Direct Information
Access Network for Europe (called DIANE). DIANE is to interconnect
numerous nations through the most advanced computer and
telecommunications devices. The system will include data networks from
Community countries with the future possibility of incorporating networks of
non-Community countries.”

In a related article, Europe reported, “We will have access to one hundred
computer banks around the world (My note: it´s much greater now). The
name and data relating to every individual in the Western world is stored in
computer banks everywhere. All this information can be fed into the Euronet
computer that the European Community locates at Brussels, Belgium.” Only
the computer links are in Brussels. The actual Euronet computer is located
in Luxembourg.

“666” AND SOME MIND BOGGLING MATH

WHAT IS THE SPEED of such computers? Computer Digest states, “In one
half second, today´s computers can debit two thousand checks to three
hundred different bank accounts, or can examine one thousand
electrocardiograms, or score one hundred fifty thousand answers on three
thousand exams, or figure the company payroll for one thousand
employees.” Of course, even this information is outdated and computer
speed races onward faster and faster, seemingly without limitation.

I believe the international dictator will use such a computer, fashioned after
his likeness (see Revelation 13:14), to enslave the inhabitants of earth. He
will effectively do this through commerce—the buying and selling of products.
Again, these statistics are already out of date. The numbers are even more
mind numbing now. Revelation 13:16, 17 states, “And he causeth all, both
small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right
hand, or in their foreheads: and that no man might buy or sell, save he that
had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

This forthcoming computer of the ages will give the Antichrist all the
information necessary for him to govern the world. Its memory bank will know
the number, record, and history of every living person. This number will
definitely include “666” in one manner or another (see Revelation 13:18).

After exhaustive research in thousands of volumes, I have come to believe it
will be a prefix, such as 666-7, 666-300, etc. Every individual credit card
number must have some differentiation to distinguish one person from
another. If all credit cards were identical, there would be mass confusion.
Similarly, there will be some variance along with the “666” marking.

In a report on a startling mathematical equation which was worked out on
computers, Colonel Henry C. MacQueen, Sr., of Saratoga, California, took
the three six digit units, which, with their permutations of numbers, came out
to N 60, and multiplied them by three. I don´t expect you to understand the
depth of the statement any more than I do, unless you are technically
oriented. I simply state these numbers to show you that each of earth´s
billions of inhabitants could possess his or her own personal number through
the permutations of the figures described as “666.”

In fact, the computers arrived at the conclusion that
46,834,995,519,212,567,931,529,902,559,000 (that´s forty six nonillion, eight
hundred thirty four octillion, nine hundred ninety five septillion, five hundred
nineteen sextillion, two hundred twelve quintillion, five hundred sixty seven
quadrillion, nine hundred thirty one trillion, five hundred twenty nine billion,
nine hundred two million, five hundred fifty nine thousand) human beings
could each have his or her own number. Six hundred sixty six, with its
permutations, fits the bill, even if trillions more should be born!

As a final note on computer development, this quote from the St. Louis Post
Dispatch:

“Mathematicians at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel and the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology are working on a new cryptographic
system and microcomputer chip that may be able to provide everyone in the
world with a personal, unbreakable code. The goal is to ensure for privileged
government, business, and personal communications the confidentiality
threatened as never before by espionage of all sorts.…The new cryptographic
technique... is ‘one of the surest means of concealment ever devised.”´

World computerization is so near that the international bankers, through
“SWIFT” (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications),
have already done the leg work in preparing the way for the world leader to
take control. I have mentioned before one of the organizational leaders in
Brussels, who stated, “We do not want another committee. We have too
many already. What we want is a man of sufficient stature to hold the
allegiance of the people, and to lift us out of the economic morass into which
we are sinking. Send us such a man, and be he God or the devil, we will
receive him.”

This wish will soon be granted. A new “Hitler” with a monstrous computer to
enslave millions, may soon take over the earth (see my video

imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Syria Prepares for Destruction - 2000 Update

In 1998 we sent out the following message:

Syria has joined in numerous attempts to annihilate the small
country of Israel ever since its rebirth in 1948. Syria is
also recognized as a key power broker remaining in the ongoing
deadlock for a comprehensive peace agreement in
the region. In addition, it is the most aggressive and heavily
armed of Israel´s border enemies.

According to every evidence biblically and by current events
Syria will make a terrible error in judgment in the not to
distant future, when they provoke Israel for the last time. God
details Syria´s final days as a great power in Jeremiah
49:23-27. He tells the Syrian people that they will be shamed,
disturbing news will cause them great fear, they will
try to escape the troubles that will come to them from the sea,
Syrian soldiers will die in the streets and their capital
of Damascus will be burned. God has said there will be “sorrow
on the sea” and that “it cannot be quiet” (Jeremiah
49:23). It is not by mere coincidence that the Syrian army has
taken up a position in the coastland nation of
Lebanon. It will be there that they perish.

Not much is said about the Israeli Navy, but rest assured it is
on as equal a technological footing as its infantry and
air force. Israel knows that the next Middle East war could
very possibly require a nuclear response. Weapons of
mass destruction are Israel´s greatest fear. Reports that
Israel´s enemies continue to purchase and develop chemical,
biological and atomic weapons, forces Israel to fully prepare
for a worse case scenario.

The July 3, 1998, article of the Denver Post which headlined,
“Syria reportedly set to make nerve gas” is a case in
point. Quoting we read: “Syria is preparing to produce the
deadly VX nerve agent, Jane´s Defense Weekly
reported, quoting Israeli intelligence. The respected military
magazine said in a story from Tel Aviv on Wednesday
that Syria is already able to produce other chemical agents and
is set to locally produce the VX chemical agent.”

An article from the December 12, 1993, edition of the Denver
Post which headlined, “Russian planes flew missile
launchers to Syria” brings the dangerous reality Israel is
facing into clearer focus. Quoting we read: “Over U.S.
objections, Russian cargo planes flew special truck chassis
commonly used for mobile missile launchers from North
Korea to Syria last summer...”

The lateness of the hour continues to be impressed upon us as we
read such reports as the one from the May-June
1998, Dispatch from Jerusalem which headlined, “Syrians
Building Bunkers Near Israeli Border.” Quoting we read:
“According to Israeli military sources, the Syrian army has set
up an illegal bunker system, about 5 kilometers (3
miles) inside the demilitarized zone, under UN control...A total
of over 5 km (3 miles) of embankments have been
dug along all the axis leading from the Israeli Golan Heights of
the Syrian area of the plateau...”

By the Word of God, we know these Syrian bunkers are intended
for war against Israel and that Syria´s defeat will
be conclusive according to Jeremiah 49:26. We quote,
“Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the
men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the Lord of
hosts.”

The Scriptures prophesy that a powerful Arab confederacy will
soon join in an attack on God´s chosen people (see
R. W. message ‘The Fatalities of Psalm 83´ at:
http://www.rapturewatch.com/christ-like/fatofpsal83.html), at
about
the same time we believe the Persian Gulf War will have started
up again, resulting in the prophesied total destruction
of Kuwait (Kedar) by Iraq, and Babylon, Iraq being destroyed by
nuclear weapons (Jeremiah Chapters 50 and 51).
At some later date a second invasion will be launched against
Israel by Russia, Iran, Turkey, Ethiopia, Libya and a
number of other countries. To read of their destruction review
Chapters 38 and 39 of Ezekiel in the Holy Bible.

Most Bible prophecy teachers recognize that a seven year
covenant (Daniel 9:27) will be put in place after the
destruction of Babylon, Iraq and before the invasion of the
Middle East by Russia and her allies. It is of interest to
note that it has been reported by the BBC in 1994 that a Syrian
peace plan consisted of a seven year phased Israeli
withdrawal from the Golan Heights.

Perhaps some aspects of this seven year plan will be utilized
after the horror of limited atomic war has been inflicted
upon the Middle East. With massive disarmament being the most
likely course of action for the region after such a
war , it is plausible that Russia and her confederates will see
that what they believe is the perfect moment in history
to seize control of the vast wealth of the Middle East. They
will be wrong.

A sampling of headlines in 1999 and 2000 divulge the fatal one
way road Syria is upon. A road which will soon
produce her prophesied destruction when she attacks Israel.

A summer 1999 intelligence source quoted by Steve Rodan, editor
of Middle East Newsline, reported that Syria had
constructed five tunnels and was in the middle of constructing
another nine tunnels to conceal Scud C missiles, with
a range of 500 kilometers. It was also reported that Syria had
been developing Scud D missiles with a range of more
than 700 kilometers and nonconventional warheads filled with the
nerve agent sarin.

The Arabic News reported on July 14, 1999, that Syrian President
Hafez al-Assad refused an appeal made by Israeli
Prime Minister Ehud Barak to abide by a secret pledge that
provides for preventing attacks against Israel in Lebanon
by Hizbullah during peace talks between the two countries.

The July 21, 1999 Arabic News headline read, “Palestinian
alliance forces meet in Damascus”.

On February 1, 2000 the headline from the Denver Post read,
“Barak suspends Syria Peace Talks”.

Reporting on Egypt´s call for Syria to join in convening an Arab
Summit in order to develop a clear course of Arab
coordination in response to Israel´s stance towards the various
peace tracks, the headline of the Arabic News on
February 8, 2000 summed up the situation in six words -- “Peace
process, blocked on all tracks”.

After eleven consecutive days of air attacks by Israel in
Lebanon at the edge of the Bekaa Valley where Syrian troops
are stationed, the Excite News report of February 9, 2000 which
headlined, “Israeli Jets Strike South Lebanon”
reported that “The latest fighting is threatening to spiral out
of control” while “Israel blamed Syria for the latest
flare-up and said peace talks will not resume until Syria forces
an end to Lebanese guerrilla attacks.” The report
concluded by stating that “Egypt, Jordan, the Arab League and
The Organization of the Islamic Conference have
also criticized Israel.”

The headline of February 10, 2000 from the Arabic News read,
“Arab, worldwide condemnation of Israeli
aggressions against Lebanon”.

In a February 10, 2000 Arabic News article which reported on
Israel´s growing anger against Syrian instigation of the
growing instability along the Israeli and Lebanese border it was
stated that “Israel had conveyed a severe message to
Damascus” and that it was “to be the last warning message to
Syria” before “they will be obligated to pay a heavy
price...” (...Israel sends a warning to Syria).

Haaretz Breaking News of February 10, 2000 reported in its
article “Lebanon to burn if rockets hit Israel...” that
“Foreign Minister David Levy said on Wednesday “the soil of
Lebanon will burn” if Hezbollah guerrillas fire
Katyusha rockets at northern Israel to retaliate for bombing
raids. Speaking to the Diplomatic Corp in Israel, Levy
said: “If Katyushas fall on northern Israel, the soil of
Lebanon will burn.”

In a February 11, 2000 Denver Post article which headlined,
“Israel vows retaliation...” Israeli army chief, Lt. Gen.
Shaul Mofaz, said Israel would no longer feel restricted by the
code of reprisals [regarding not attacking civilian
targets] brokered by the U.S. after Israel´s 1996 bombing
campaign.

Lastly, a February 13, 2000 Colorado Springs Gazette article
which headlined, “Guerrillas kill Israeli soldier in
Lebanon” reported that “International monitors met Friday to
defuse tensions, but Israeli representatives walked out
of the meeting after guerrillas killed an Israeli soldier and

Ecologists warn of food contamination after cyanide spill

BELGRADE, Yugoslavia - Yugoslav ecologists today warned of long-term
food poisoning in the wake of a cyanide spill and dangerous metal
concentrations that already have killed tons of fish in the contaminated
Danube and Tisza rivers.

"Dead fish are covering the rivers, and 400,000 birds that find winter
shelter in the Yugoslav part of the Danube River are threatened," said
ecologist Radoje Lausevic.

He said there was a great danger that the river pollution - which was
dozens of times above the normal levels - could contaminate the food
chain through groundwater and the water used for irrigation.

In Budapest, Janos Borbely of the Hungarian Environment Protection
Ministry said more than 100 tons of cyanide "got into the river and
approximately the same amount of metals," referring to the Romanian
Lapus River, which was the first contaminated.

Authorities in Serbia have warned farmers not to eat or sell food that
grows near the Tisza and Danube rivers or is otherwise affected by
adjoining or underwater currents. They also have warned of dangerous
metal concentrations in the rivers.

The cyanide poured into streams from a containment dam at a gold mine
near the Romanian town of Baia Mare on Jan. 30, returning to Romania on
the Danube after passing through Hungary and Yugoslavia via the Szamos
and Tisza rivers.

The World Health Organization expressed concern that heavy metals such
as lead and cadmium also might have escaped into the water, posing a
potentially far greater health threat.

As of this morning, the cyanide concentration in the Danube in Romania
was four times higher than European Union-accepted levels, and almost 20
times higher than the levels permissible in Romania.

"The dilution (of the contamination) did not happen to the extent
expected," said Septimius Mara, from the monitoring unit of the Romanian
Ministry of Environment.

Australia-based Esmeralda Ltd., co-owner of the Baia Mare gold mine, has
denied responsibility for the cyanide spill, saying the extent of
poisoning had been exaggerated. Romania also has said the damage was
overstated and that it has suffered the most.

Hungary asked the United Nations for an independent team of experts to
assess the spill. Major European donors have been asked to make more
experts available to draw up an immediate response.

By this morning, communities along the Serbian section of the Tisza and
Danube rivers said they had retrieved and buried at least 12 tons of
poisoned fish.

Local villages were covered with signs warning people not to eat fish
from the rivers. Farms along the riverbank were cautioned not to use
well water, since the cyanide is likely to have seeped into groundwater.
Hunters and rangers reported seeing the first dead land animals, which
presumably drank water from the rivers.

Hungary and Yugoslavia have demanded compensation from Romania, and
both
have threatened to sue if their demands are not met.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban confirmed in a radio interview
today that Hungary is planning three lawsuits.

He said civil action will be filed against the Romanian-Australian gold
mining joint venture and its Australian parent company. Hungary also
will demand compensation from Romania through international courts,
Orban told Hungarian public radio.

"The legal responsibility of the Romanian company is clear," Hungarian
Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi said today.

"No one will ever be able to come up with an exact figure in terms of
the cost because no one can say what the flora and fauna of the Tisza
River are worth," he said. "However, we can put a price on the fish, on
agriculture, tourism."

The Yugoslav Foreign Ministry issued a protest note to the Romanian
Embassy in Belgrade on Tuesday, citing "serious damage caused by the
destruction of fish in the Tisza and the hazard to the riverside."

As a brand-new subscriber to your list, may I pose three questions which
preoccupy me at the present time? A bit cheeky, you may think, but here
goes!

1 Jesus clearly regarded himself as fulfilling prophesies in the Old
Testament, and St Paul set great store by this aspect of Jesus. Were they
both referring to the same prophesies? Could anybody please give chapter
and verse for the prophesies which they had in mind?

2 In Mark Chapter 1 there is mention of Simon's mother-in-law. This
implies that he must have had a wife. Does anybody know of any other
references to Simon's wife?

3 I am thinking of compiling a 'composite' Gospel story covering all the
events and sayings, but selecting just one version of any given episode,
so as to provide what would aim to be a single coherent account of the
life of Jesus. Presumably this must have been done before, and I would be
glad to know of any examples.

ONE YEAR ago this month His Majesty King Abdullah ascended to the throne of
the Hashemite monarchy and was immediately thrust into the biggest challenge
of his life assuming leadership responsibility for a country that suffered
serious economic and environmental stress, within a politically volatile
region. A year later, Jordan and the world have a much better idea of King
Abdullah's style and direction of leadership.

The single most important change that has occurred under the leadership of
King Abdullah has been a broad reorientation of Jordan's overall national
role and horizons. Under King Hussein's long reign the Jordanian state
survived and progressed by carving out for itself an effective geo-strategic
role as an agent of political and developmental ideologies, within the
contexts of the global Cold War, the regional Arab Cold War, and the
Arab-Israeli conflict. Under King Abdullah, Jordan is a very different
country today, focused almost totally on addressing its domestic economic
challenges, and correspondingly defining a new global role for itself as a
purveyor of human and technical capabilities.

Upon assuming his responsibilities, King Abdullah immediately recognised
that the most serious threats to Jordan emanated from two related issues:
economic stagnation and political discontent at home. The first threat was
the young population's growing concerns about finding satisfying jobs and
earning enough money to live a reasonably comfortable life; the second
threat was many Jordanians' growing complaints about a pattern of
discrimination, inequity, and favouritism in society, along ethnic,
religious, geographical, tribal, cultural, or economic divides. This deadly
combination of material and political discontent had to be addressed before
it threatened the stability and well-being of the country.

King Abdullah quickly repositioned Jordan politically in the Middle East
region, restored good working ties with Syria and some key Gulf states,
minimised Jordan's direct engagement with the Palestinian issue (including
lowering Jordan's profile on Jerusalem), virtually eliminated mention of the
Iraq situation, and maintained good working relations with Israel (but
clearly as a secondary priority to Jordanian-Arab ties). The clear message
was: Jordan had too many pressing challenges at home to remain entangled in
complex regional issues. Jordanians seem to have responded with acquiescence
and approval.

Globally, King Abdullah has focused sharply on translating Jordan's goodwill
among its friends and donors into new economic relationships. His attempt to
achieve debt write-offs has not been very successful, but perpetual debt
rescheduling has emerged as the alternative option. Jordan's global ties now
stress investment flows and offering our human talent and improved
infrastructure as the foundations for profitable investments in information
technology and high-tech industries. Jordan engages the world today almost
purely through the window of economic and technological exchange, more keyed
to Davos and the World Trade Organisation than to NATO and the U.N. Security
Council. This policy, too, seems to have won approval in the country.

At home, the King has moved quickly to bring about important economic and
legal reforms that allow the country to compete in the global economy. He
pushed parliament to enact new laws needed for Jordan's membership in the
World Trade Organisation, convened the first Jordanian Economic Forum at the
Dead Sea, and named an Economic Consultative Council to oversee continuing
reforms. He also set out on numerous spot inspections of government
agencies, sometimes in disguise, aiming to prompt reforms in a civil service
that has become increasingly arrogant and inefficient. Time will tell how
many of these initiatives will achieve the desired results.

Domestic political change and further democratic advances move slowly, while
economic growth reigns as the single, supreme issue for Jordan today. The
King has made it clear that he hears the complaints of discrimination and
favouritism that many Jordanians express, and has made some symbolic moves
in this area (like ending palace largesse in the forms of duty-free car
licenses, and speaking about national unity in Palestinian refugee camps).
Generally, though, the King seems to operate on the correct assumption that
political reform will be easier to achieve in the future, once economic
growth has been restored.

Overall, the last year has seen a continued relative shift in political
responsibility, from the government ministries and agencies to the Royal
Palace. Intense Royal leadership, especially in economic change, is vital if
Jordan hopes to meet its challenges through economic growth that is
equitable and sustainable. Yet, it is not clear how and if dynamic Royal
leadership will improve the long-term performance of the public sector. The
private sector-dominated Economic Consultative Council, for example, may
generate resentment among some in the government and bureaucracy, while the
King's spot inspections require a parallel strategic reform plan for the
civil service in order to bring about permanent change for the better.

There is an inherent danger of generating greater and greater public
reliance on the person of the Monarch and the institution of the Palace, and
thereby inducing greater mediocrity and inefficiency in the existing state
bureaucracy. The last year of high-octane Royal activism and leadership
reminds us why some monarchies continue to exist in a global age of
republicanism. It also reminds us that as a country we are still
experimenting with various balances of power and responsibility among the
Palace, the Prime Ministry, the Parliament, the judiciary, the state
bureaucracy, the private sector, and civil society, all of which are
assigned formal roles in the constitution and the National Charter.

Egyptians find tomb of ancient god Osiris

GIZA, Egypt, Feb 16 (Reuters) - Sinking water levels have revealed a
granite sarcophagus of the ancient Egyptian god Osiris in a 30-metre (98
feet) deep tomb at the Giza pyramids, Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass
said on Wednesday.

Osiris was one of the most important gods of ancient Egypt who according
to mythology was murdered by his wicked brother Seth. He was buried by
Isis, his sister-wife, and brought back to life as judge of the dead and
ruler of the underworld.

Hawass said the sarcophagus, which he dated to 500 BC in the New
Kingdom, was surrounded by the remains of four pillars built in the
shape of a hieroglyphic 'Bir' or 'House of Osiris'.

The excavation unearthed 3,000-year-old bones and pottery found in the
underground water, he said.

"I never excavated this shaft because it was always full of water. But
when the water went down about a year ago, we started the adventure," he
told Reuters.

After dirt and most of the remaining water were cleared from the shaft,
located between the Sphinx and the Pyramid of Chefren (Khafre),
archaeologists found three underground levels, with the submerged Osiris
sarcophagus at the lowest.

"Many people believed there were tunnels going to the Sphinx and another
leading to the Great Pyramid but only when we sent a young boy into a
tunnel in the west wall (of the tomb shaft) did we find this exciting
discovery," said Hawass.

Digital weapons could change the face of warfare

Planet Earth is still reeling from its experience of the ultimate in stealth
warfare - no bombs, no bullets, no bangs; just chaos and the total
breakdown of society.

In this war, the battlefield was everywhere and nowhere; a conflict fought
by invisible warriors moving silently to bring about their digital
Armageddon.

Public utilities have ground to a halt; the banking system has imploded;
transportation systems are in terminal gridlock; telecoms are all but
useless...

Futuristic fantasy? Not necessarily - cyber-warfare is fast becoming a fact of
military life.

Scientific advances have opened the possibility of longer, better lives.
They have also given the enemies of freedom new opportunities

The kind of disruption once possible only with a battery of intercontinental
missiles now seems achievable at the click of a mouse.

Cyber-wars might not directly spill blood, but in the information age
stemming the flow of data using so-called "weapons of mass disruption" can
be as effective a way of bringing a country to its knees as bombing its oil
refineries.

Sitting target

As our wired world becomes more reliant on technology for its prosperity and
security, so it becomes increasingly vulnerable.

Thomas Siebel, chief executive of Siebel Systems, a provider of e-business
software, says recent examples of prominent websites being shut down by
young and relatively amateur hackers show how exposed the system is.

Electronic arsenal
Low-tech email "spamming" to clog networks
"Logic bombs" activated at will to scramble enemy networks
Fast-breeding "worm viruses"
Trojan horse viruses designed to trace passwords
Video morphing to push artificially generated images on to enemy TV
stations
"If you want to shut down the free world", he says, "the way you would do it is
not to send missiles over the Atlantic Ocean - you shut down their information
systems and the free world will come to a screeching halt.

"If a college kid can do it, imagine what Libya and red China can do."

In geostrategic terms, the US is still very much the uncontested superpower
based on its arsenal of conventional weapons. But on the electronic front, the
field is much more fluid and the internet could prove to be the great leveller.

Arms cache

Unsurprisingly, the US is thought to hold one of the most sophisticated and
top
secret stores of so-called cyber-bombs.

The latest lethal weapon?

But that by no means gives it a monopoly.

In capable hands, a powerful computer hooked up to the web has the
potential to be a relatively cheap, fast and effective tool of war.

During the Kosovo war, US officials are reported to have decided against
deploying their electronic arsenal because of fears that the impact on
civilian life would have led to charges of war crimes under the Geneva
Convention.

The revelation highlighted a growing debate over the impact of these weapons
on the nature of warfare and legitimate targets.

Potential targets are not only government computers but the lifelines that
we all take for granted - our power grids, water and transportation systems

Late last year, Russian diplomats warned that the uncontrolled development
of cyber-warfare applications "might lead to an escalation of the arms
race".

There is also the genie-in-the-bottle syndrome to think about.

Once a cyber-attack has been unleashed, who's to say that in the
interconnected world your carefully constructed virus won't spread to the
networks of friendly or neutral nations?

The art of war

Intelligence analysts say one of the first concerted cyber-attacks occurred in
Sri Lanka in 1997 in support of the Tamil Tiger separatists.

Sophisticated more in terms of organisation than technology, the strike was
intended to disrupt government communications by overloading - i.e.
spamming -
Sri Lankan embassies with millions of e-mails.

Burma's military government has built a sophisticated cyber-warfare
division

A year later, the Indian army's website on Kashmir was "hijacked" by
supporters of Pakistan's claim to the disputed territory, who plastered the site
with their own political slogans.

In Burma, the military government is believed to have built up an advanced
cyber-warfare department within its own secret police force.

Using monitoring equipment loaned by the government of Singapore, analysts
say the junta has been able to track online critics of the regime. A growing
number of exiled activists say they have received viruses attached to e-mails
later found to have been sent by Burmese agents.

And during the East Timorese crisis last year, independence leader Jose
Ramos Horta threatened to unleash a series of viruses against Indonesia's
banking sector if the government tried to rig the territory's referendum.

But military officials say these are just tips of the electronic iceberg.

Hack attack

According to US Government reports, at least 120 groups or countries are
developing information-warfare systems, most of them using the net as their
means of attack.

Already the US Defence Department is engaged in an ongoing war to protect
its communications network.

US forces held back from using electronic weapons during the Kosovo
conflict

Backed by a $1.4bn presidential budget, the Pentagon announced last
October that
it was consolidating offensive and defensive cyber-warfare programs under the
authority of the US Space Command in Colorado Springs.

It says hackers try to penetrate its systems between 60 and 80 times a day,
but
analysts believe the real figures are likely to be much higher.

Most hackers gain access through so-called "back-doors" - a kind of
electronic loophole which only tends to become apparent after the intruder
has made their presence felt and left.

Once you've been infiltrated, you then have to trace who attacked you - a
task complicated by the array of electronic "screens" available to hackers
to mask their locations.

By then, of course, it could already be too late - a fact that is causing
senior White House officials to contemplate the possibility of an
"electronic Pearl Harbor".

Maybe the first shots of the global cyber-war have already been fired.
Trouble is, if and when the war starts for real, you won't see it until it's too
late.

On 15th February, 2000 at the Vatican, the Pope and the leader of the PLO
terrorist organisation, Yasser Arafat, signed a covenant against the G–d
and people of Israel and Jerusalem. It was a covenant between two enemies
of Israel who for a long time would rather have Israel disappear from the
Promised Land as soon as possible.

According to this agreement, Jerusalem should be an international city
based on international resolutions and an international guarantee. (The
UN decided on more than one occasion that Jerusalem should be an
international city.) They also decided that any step or activity taken by
Israel to change this position of Jerusalem is against the law. The
agreement also recognises a "Palestinian" state in the land of Israel and
agrees on cooperation between the Vatican and the PLO and the Vatican
committed itself to assist the so-called "Palestinians". Authorities in the
Vatican explained: "the agreement paves the way for establishment of full
diplomatic relations with a Palestinian state when it is founded". The PLO
representative in the Vatican stated: "This is an historical covenant".

It is no accident that this covenant was signed one month before the Pope's
visit to Israel. The agreement is part of the long-term policy of the Vatican
against Israel ever since the State of Israel was founded. This is a
continuation of the historical hostility of the Vatican against the Jewish
people. The Jewish people in the exile, mainly in Europe, and later also in
South America have been persecuted by the Popes and the Roman Catholic Church
and many millions were killed in terrible ways during the Inquisition, the
pogroms and, in our time, in the Holocaust when 6 million Jews were killed
including 1.5 million children and babies. During the Holocaust the Pope did not
even try to prevent this killing or even state that he was against it. He was
silent.

On the other hand, the leader of the PLO terrorist organisation, Yasser
Arafat, continues, through this covenant, the long, bloody struggle of
terror against Israel and Jews and his hands are covered in Jewish blood.
His goal was, and still is, to destroy the State of Israel and bring
another holocaust on the Jews in the land of Israel. He has now merely
changed his strategy when he found that he could not achieve his goal by
the means of terror. He has now decided to try to achieve his goal through
diplomatic means and the so-called "Peace" negotiations. What he did not
succeed in achieving on the battlefield because the G–d of Israel did not
allow him to, he is now trying to achieve around the negotiating table.

The traditional anti-Israeli position of both these sides created this
covenant against the G–d and people of Israel. They joined forces against
Israel and Jerusalem as the godly eternal capital of Israel. Yesterday's
picture of the terrorist Yasser Arafat kissing the hand of the Pope after
the signing of the covenant, showed an unholy and hypocritical covenant
between a mass-murderer and a Pope who the Vatican says is holy. How could
the Pope allow this hand which is full of Jewish blood to hold his hand and kiss
it. More than being a covenant between two lovers, this was a covenant of hate
against Israel.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry reacted immediately and stated that Jerusalem
was, is and will forever be the capital of Israel and no covenant or
statement will ever change this fact. This statement is a result and
continuation of the Word of G–d from thousands of years ago when the G–d of
Israel made Jerusalem the eternal capital of Israel.

For thousands of years, Jerusalem, the beloved city of G–d and Israel, the
eternal capital of the G–d and people of Israel, was the heart, soul and
focus of G–d and His people, Israel. G–d dwelt in the midst of His people
on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Great songs and exciting prophecies were
dedicated by G–d, Israel and the prophets to the city which gave strength,
joy and comfort to this nation under good or bad circumstances. After the
Romans destroyed the temple in 70 CE, as well as after the first
destruction by the Babylonians in 586 BCE, the people of Israel swore
before being taken into exile: "If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right
hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember you, let my tongue cleave to
the roof of my mouth; if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy."
(Psalm137:5,6) Jerusalem was in their hearts and hopes in the darkness of
the terrible exile. The hope to come back to Jerusalem and the Promised
Land, to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem and again to worship their beloved G–d
gave them great strength to overcome and survive all the terrible persecutions
and this is the reason that G–d brought His people back to Jerusalem and to the
Promised Land because He so wanted to dwell among them again in the land and
city which He promised them in an eternal covenant. He promised Israel that no
covenant against the G–d and people of Israel and the land and Jerusalem will
last. Through His prophet, Isaiah, He called such a similar anti-godly covenant
a covenant with death. In Isaiah 28:15 He said "Because you have said, We have
made a covenant with death, and with Sheol are we at agreement; when the
overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come to us; for we have
made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hidden ourselves;"
(Isaiah28:15) He stated very clearly that such a covenant would not work but
would turn against those who signed it. " And your covenant with death shall be
annulled, and your agreement with Sheol shall not stand; when the overflowing
scourge shall pass through, then you shall be trampled down by it."
(Isaiah28:18)

Only a cornerstone in Zion for the house of G–d and Israel for the covenant
between them can and will work. "Therefore thus said the Lord God, Behold, I lay
in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure
foundation; he who believes shall not make haste." (Isaiah28:16)

Through the prophet Zechariah, the G–d of Israel promised before all the
nations that He is determined to redeem Israel in the end-times, the time
in which we are now living, to give Jerusalem, the land and the Temple
Mount back to them and to dwell among them forever and no one will take
Jerusalem from them again. "Again the word of the Lord of hosts came to me,
saying, Thus says the Lord of hosts; I was zealous for Zion with great zeal,
and I was zealous for her with great fury. Thus says the Lord: I have returned
to Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and Jerusalem shall be called
the City of Truth; and the mountain of the Lord of hosts the Holy Mountain. Thus
says the Lord of hosts: Old men and old women shall again dwell in the streets
of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for the fullness of days.
And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its
streets. Thus says the Lord of hosts: If it is marvellous in the eyes of the
remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in my eyes?
says the Lord of hosts. Thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, I will save my
people from the east country, and from the west country; And I will bring them,
and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be my people, and
I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness. Thus says the Lord of hosts:
Let your hands be strong, you who hear in these days these words by the mouth of
the prophets, who spoke on the day that the foundation of the house of the Lord
of hosts was laid, saying that the temple might be built. For before these days
there was no wage for man, nor any wage for beast; nor was there any peace to
him who went out or who came in, because of the adversary; for I set all men
everyone against his neighbour. But now I will not be to the remnant of this
people as in the former days, says the Lord of hosts. For there shall be the
seed of peace; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her
produce, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of
this people to possess all these things. And it shall come to pass, that as you
were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I
save you, and you shall be a blessing. Do not fear, but let your hands be
strong. For thus says the Lord of hosts: As I intended to do evil to you, when
your fathers provoked me to wrath, says the Lord of hosts, and I did not relent;
So do I intend in these days to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.
Do not fear." (Zechariah8:1-15)

The Pope and Yasser Arafat are trying to prevent G–d from fulfilling His
Word. They are still deluded, exactly as they were when Israel was in the
exile and they stated and believed that the G–d of Israel divorced His
people, Israel, and forgot them and that they are the new Israel. They did
not want to accept and believe all the promises of G–d in the Scriptures
that His covenant with Israel is an eternal covenant of love and He does
not behave like mankind when they divorce their beloved wife for another
one. He explained so clearly in prophecy that His love to Israel and His
marriage covenant with His wife as He referred to Israel and His
faithfulness to His firstborn son, as Israel is called when Moses was sent
to Pharaoh to tell him to let the Israelites go, is eternal. At the same
time His call to the nations was to stop their hatred and persecution of
Israel and to help them to be redeemed. "Thus says the Lord God, Behold, I
will lift up my hand to the nations, and set up my standard to the people;
and they shall bring your sons in their arms, and your daughters shall be
carried upon their shoulders. And kings shall be your foster fathers, and
their queens your nursing mothers; they shall bow down to you with their
face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of your feet; and you shall
know that I am the Lord; for those who wait for me shall not be ashamed."
(Isaiah 49:14)

G–d called them to love Him through His people, Israel, and His word to the
nations in the end-time was this call: "Thus says the Lord of hosts: It shall
yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many
cities; And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go
speedily to entreat the favour of the Lord, and to seek the Lord of hosts. I
will go also. And many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of
hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the Lord. Thus says the Lord of hosts: In
those days it shall come to pass, that ten men from the nations of every
language, shall take hold of the robe of a Jew, saying, We will go with you; for
we have heard that God is with you." (Zechariah8:20-23)

He warned the nations not to try to take Jerusalem away from Israel.
Thousand of years ago, He saw what the enemies of G–d and Israel would try
to do to take the capital of Israel away from His people. He warned them of His
judgement which will be terrible: "The burden of the word of the Lord concerning
Israel, says the Lord, who stretches out the heavens, and lays the foundation of
the earth, and forms the spirit of man inside him. Behold, I will make Jerusalem
a cup of reeling to all the people around, and it shall also be against Judah in
the siege against Jerusalem. And on that day I will make Jerusalem a burdensome
stone for all the peoples; all who burden themselves with it shall be grievously
hurt. And all the peoples of the earth shall be gathered together against it. On
that day, says the Lord, I will strike every horse with panic, and its rider
with madness; and I will open my eyes upon the house of Judah, and will strike
every horse of the nations with blindness. And the governors of Judah shall say
in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem are my strength through the Lord of
hosts their God. On that day I will make the governors of Judah like a hearth of
fire among trees, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all
the peoples around, on the right hand and on the left; and Jerusalem shall be
inhabited again in her own place, in Jerusalem. And the Lord shall save the
tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the
inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah. On that day
shall the Lord defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he who is feeble among
them shall be as David on that day; and the house of David shall be like a
divine being, like the angel of the Lord before them. And it shall come to pass
on that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against
Jerusalem. And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of
Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they shall look towards
me, regarding those whom the nations have pierced; and they shall mourn for him,
as one mourns for an only son, and shall be in bitterness over him, as one who
is in bitterness for his firstborn." (Zechariah12:1-10)

The prophet Obadiah also prophesied about the nations which came to take
Jerusalem away from Israel and he warned them of the judgement of G–d which is
soon to come. "On the day that you stood aloof, on the day that strangers
carried away his wealth, and foreigners entered his gates, and cast lots upon
Jerusalem, you were like one of them. ... For the day of the Lord is near upon
all the nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you; your reward shall
return upon your own head. For as you have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall
all the nations drink continually; indeed, they shall drink, and they shall
swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been. But upon Mount Zion
shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall
possess their own possessions." (Obadiah11,15-17)

We are living in the greatest time in the history of Israel and all
mankind. Everyone is called on to come and see what G–d is doing for Israel in
these great days - the last days as the prophets called them. All the end-time
prophecies of comfort are daily being fulfilled in Israel. G–d is determined to
fulfil His end-time plans with Israel and as time becomes shorter and shorter
and the accomplishment of G–d's plans come to a climax, the enemies of G–d and
Israel are trying and will try even harder to take Jerusalem, the Temple Mount
and the land away from Israel. They will try to do it through manipulated, false
covenants, diplomatic ways, false "peace" negotiations with Israel and even
through war - the Gog and Magog war as the prophet Ezekiel called it. The Temple
Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement will not fear any of them. We shall
fear our One beloved, eternal G–d only, the G–d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. We
were, are and ever will be faithful to the G–d of Israel and the creator of the
Universe alone. We shall continue to trust in His promises to redeem, protect
and control the destiny of Israel, Jerusalem, the Temple Mount and the land
which G–d gave to Israel forever. The prophecies of Isaiah are being fulfilled
daily in Jerusalem and the Promised Land and we see for ourselves what G–d is
saying to Jerusalem, His holy mountain, and to His people, Israel, and our
hearts are filled with joy and optimism: "Awake, awake; put on your strength, O
Zion; put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city; from now on
there shall no more come to you the uncircumcised and the unclean. Shake
yourself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem; loose yourself from
the bands of your neck, O captive daughter of Zion. For thus says the Lord, You
have sold yourselves for nothing; and you shall be redeemed without money. ...
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who
announces peace; who brings good news of good, who announces salvation; who says
to Zion, Your God reigns! The voice of your watchmen is heard; together shall
they sing; for they shall see eye to eye, when the Lord returns to Zion. Break
forth into joy, sing together, you ruins of Jerusalem; for the Lord has
comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord has made bare his holy
arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the
salvation of our God." (Isaiah52:1-3,7-10) "Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad
with her, all you who love her; rejoice for joy with her, all you who mourn for
her; That you may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations;
that you may drink deeply, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory. For
thus says the Lord, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the
glory of the nations like a flowing stream; then shall you suck, you shall be
carried upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees. As one whom his mother
comforts, so will I comfort you; and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem. And
when you see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like
grass; and the hand of the Lord shall be known toward his servants, and his
indignation toward his enemies. For, behold, the Lord will come with fire, and
with his chariots like a storm, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke
with flames of fire. For by fire will the Lord execute judgment, and by his
sword upon all flesh; and the slain by the Lord shall be many. They who sanctify
themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one in the midst, eating
swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together,
says the Lord. For I know their works and their thoughts; it shall come, that I
will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory. And
I will set a sign among them, and I will send those who escape to the nations,
to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, who draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to far off
islands, that have not heard my fame, nor have they seen my glory; and they
shall declare my glory among the nations. And they shall bring all your brothers
for an offering to the Lord from all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and
in litters, and upon mules, and upon fleet camels, to my holy mountain
Jerusalem, says the Lord, as the people of Israel bring an offering in a clean
utensil to the house of the Lord. And I will also take of them for priests and
for Levites, says the Lord. For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I
will make, shall remain before me, says the Lord, so shall your seed and your
name remain. And it shall come to pass, that every new moon, and every sabbath,
shall all flesh come to worship before me, says the Lord. And they shall go
forth, and look upon the carcasses of the men who have transgressed against me;
for their worm shall not die, nor shall their fire be quenched; and they shall
be a loathing to all flesh." (Isaiah66:10-24)

The Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement is sending out a call to
everyone in the world to read these godly Scriptures and others in the Tanach
and to share this great event which G–d is doing with Israel at this prophetic
and critical time. More than at any time in the past we should learn and teach
this Word of G–d to Israel and to the nations to everyone. Speak, call and write
letters to your leaders telling them not to support such anti-godly covenants,
but to support, encourage and show love to the small people of G–d, Israel, at
this prophetic and very critical time when it is so needed and as G–d, through
His Scriptures, called on everyone to do; call them to stop and cancel any
covenant against Israel and to cooperate with G–d to fulfil His end-time plans
for Israel and all the nations. This is not a time to be passive but to listen
to the call of G–d and to be a part of it. There is only one covenant and vision
that G–d made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob 4000 years ago and He expects
everyone in the world to respect it because only this covenant will make the
Word of G–d through Isaiah a reality in our lifetime. We shall do everything
together with G–d to fulfil this wonderful end-time vision for Israel and all
the nations: "And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of
the Lord's house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be
exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it. And many people shall
go and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of
the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his
paths; for from Zion shall go forth Torah, and the word of the Lord from
Jerusalem. And he shall judge among the nations, and shall decide for many
people; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into
pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, nor shall they
learn war any more. O house of Jacob, come, and let us walk in the light of the
Lord." (Isaiah2:2-25)

Troops at nearby Fairchild Air Force Base were recently asked to voluntarily
have microchips implanted in their bodies for "identification" purposes. For
the military, "voluntary" most often means mandatory.

The McChord AFB operator confirmed the rumors. He was told someone had
been out of Reserves for a year, wanted to get back in, and was thinking of
Fairchild. The question was then asked: "I heard that reservists have to get a
chip now under their skin, like they do with animals. "

He said, "Yes, that's true, all services do. Guard, Active, and Reserves too.
It is mandatory." He further claimed to like the chip, saying that it was great
and made everything easier. Remember, the operator was probably an E4 or
E5, average Air Force person just answering general questions, and was
most likely honest and unsuspecting.

A military visitor to this website said that he has been in the service for
several years and does NOT have a microchip implant. Upon calling the

practice is now being instituted, at least at this particular base!

The greening of religion

More than 30 prominent scientists,
distressed by humanity's inadequate
response to the deepening environmental
crisis, took a surprising step in 1991: They
wrote an "Open Letter to the American
Religious Community." They realized that
more than scientific data and economic
incentives were needed to delve to the heart
of the crisis.

An environmental award was given out this
month in recognition of the depth and scope
of the religious response to that letter.

Paul Gorman, who has shepherded the
development of The National Religious
Partnership for the Environment (NRPE),
won the $250,000 Heinz Award for helping
"change the discourse about the fate of the
earth" from "one based solely on scientific
argument to one rooted in religious, spiritual,
and moral values." The award is one of five
given annually by the Heinz Family
Foundation in fields of special concern to the
late Sen. John Heinz.

Yet NRPE, an alliance of major faith groups
serving more than 100 million Americans, is
not primarily a public-policy or lobbying
group. This "is not just another campaign on
yet another issue," Mr. Gorman says, and
"we are not the Green Party in clerical
garb."

NRPE's first concern has been "a deep
inquiry into the meaning and message of
religious life itself, in light of what appears to
be a crisis in God's creation at the hands of
God's children," he says. In the past six
years, partnership members - the US
Catholic Conference, the Coalition on
Environment and Jewish Life, the National
Council of Churches, and the Evangelical
Environmental Network - have reexamined
the roots of their theologies and introduced
programs throughout their denominations.

"Each group has developed its own
distinctive message and materials," Gorman
says. "We're not trying to create new
scriptures or new teachings, but to recover
and renew what has been there but been
deeply neglected. It is an effort to weave
care for all of God's creation across the
entire fabric of religious life."

Resource kits have gone to more than
150,000 congregations. Clergy and lay
members have been trained. Local projects
range from new hymns, series of sermons,
or Sunday-school curricula to churches
working with utility companies, or the
"Redwood Rabbis" connecting with business
to protect old-growth forests.

NRPE is bipartisan and nonpartisan. It
meets with legislators to discuss principles,
not to lobby for specific legislation; and it
seeks solutions for the common good.
"Timber workers and conservationists sit in
the same pews and sing the same hymns,"
Gorman says.

A graduate of Yale and Oxford, Gorman
was formerly vice president of programs for
the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New
York City. His eclectic career embraces
public service (US Senate-committee staff,
presidential-campaign press secretary, and
speechwriter), university teaching, and
serving as host for almost three decades of
a radio talk show called "Brunch."

He was "pulled into" the "rather huge and
scary" role of bringing people together
around this issue, Gorman says. He had
realized in the '80s that the faith community
had long been active on issues of human
well-being, but seemed to ignore the rest of
God's creation. Then he attended the
Moscow conference of parliamentarians,
scientists, and religious leaders called by
then-President Gorbachev that helped spur
the scientists' letter. He ended up helping
them write it.

"I didn't set out to start the NRPE," he says.
"It was simply 'How can we move this
forward?' And one thing led to another."

"Paul's genius," says John Carr of the US
Catholic Conference, "is that his leadership
facilitates the leadership of others.... We've
been involved in a lot of ecumenical
endeavors, and this is by far the best."

Gorman stresses that "this is very early" in a
long-term effort. "We're trying to address
habits of behavior that go down through
human history.... It requires a shift in basic
values so that people begin to make deeper
moral connections between what they see
around them and what they do every day,"
he says. "That could sound very daunting as
a task, but people once couldn't imagine a
society in which slavery didn't exist, or
couldn't imagine anything other than the
divine right of kings."

While NRPE can point to a lengthy list of
projects, "the single most important
accomplishment," in Gorman's estimation, "is
a deeper recognition that God indeed is
caring for God's creation.

"Many, many people are coming to
understand ... that what some call
'protecting the environment' is a profoundly
religious responsibility and an opportunity to
renew faith life itself."
