Crisis Update - David Dolan

Embattled Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak is reeling today from
Tuesday=92s overwhelming Knesset vote to prematurely end his rule and hold
early elections. With 78 parliament members out of 120 supporting the
move, Barak read the obvious handwriting on the wall and declared that he
would not oppose the early election=92s bill put forward by the opposition
Likud party. Members of Barak=92s One Israel party will meet with Likud
leaders over the next few days to set a date for the advanced vote, which
was originally only supposed to take place in 2003. It is expected that
the new national vote will take place sometime after the Spring holidays,
probably in May.

There is actually one way left for early elections to still be
forestalled=97if Barak were to immediately resign as Prime Minister. Under
Israeli law, such a move would only lead to a new election for that post,
not for the entire Knesset, which would remain composed as it exists
today. Many of Barak=92s One Israel party colleagues are urging him to go
this route, citing polls that show their left-wing party being trounced in
a new Knesset vote. Others are hinting they may challenge him as party
leader before the projected national vote. In the meantime, calls are
continuing today for Barak and Likud leader Ariel Sharon to join together
in a National Emergency Government to lead the country through the
troubled waters that lie ahead in the coming transition months. Sharon is
expected to face a fierce internal challenge from Binyamin Netanyahu for
the post of Likud party leader.

During Tuesday=92s Knesset debate, Likud leaders agreed with Barak that it
was not a good time to go to the polls, with the violent Palestinian
uprising still continuing. However, they stressed that they had sincerely
tried to heed the PM=92s call to join a unity government, only to be dumped
by Barak at the last minute in favor of a temporary "safety net" deal with
the large Shas religious party. When Shas leaders backed away from that
unpopular deal due to last week=92s resurgence of Palestinian terror
attacks, the Likud was not willing to negotiate with the "back stabbing"
Barak again.

Israeli and Palestinian political analysts are busy assessing the possible
impact of Tuesday=92s dramatic news. Some believe it might bring an end to
the new uprising. They say Yasser Arafat=97reading Israeli opinion polls
that project an impressive Likud victory in the upcoming vote=97now realize s
he only has a few months to cut a deal with the pliable Barak. They add
that the PM himself will redouble his efforts to secure a peace pact,
knowing that this is his only chance of being returned to power.

However many other pundits are saying today that the Knesset vote will
only bring greater instability to the tense Middle East, and thus increase
the chances that a major conflict will erupt. They note that Barak already
offered Arafat far more than the Israeli political consensus could bear,
and it was rejected. It would be political suicide for him to offer more
now, they say, and also impossible for Arafat to go back and accept what
he rejected at Camp David=97rendering the violent new Palestinian uprising
totally pointless. With Russia and Europe still positioning themselves to
take on a greater role in the peace process, they say US President Bill
Clinton will find it hard to pull a magic rabbit out of his hat in the
last few weeks of his administration. Adding to the obstacles in the way
of ending the violence and securing a peace accord before May, the new
American president=97whoever he is=97will be totally preoccupied in the fir st
half of next year with healing the divided nation and establishing his
rule after the drawn out election debacle.

Violence continues today in several areas. Palestinian gunmen have again
opened fire at Israeli forces guarding Rachel=92s Tomb on the northern
outskirts of Bethlehem. Shooting attacks continued overnight in the
divided town of Hebron, near Jenin, and in the Gaza Strip where shots were
fired at troops near the Morag settlement and in other places. Israeli
forces are on full alert after Yasser Arafat=92s Fatah movement called for
mass demonstrations today to mark "Palestine National Day." A Fatah
uprising leaflet called upon Palestinians to "escalate the intifada"
during the current Islamic holy month of Ramadan, and urged them to "break
through Israeli checkpoints" each Friday to pray at the Al Aksa mosque on
Jerusalem=92s disputed Temple Mount.

The Israeli army spokesman said today that restrictions are being eased on
Arafat=92s Palestinian zones in honor of Ramadan. He said that more food an d
medicine will be allowed into the Gaza Strip and into sealed off towns in
Judea and Samaria, and that the Palestinian airport may be reopened, along
with the Allenby Bridge connecting Israel with Jordan. However, he denied
press reports that there has been a marked decrease of violence in recent
days, saying only that the number of fatalities had dropped since the
Palestinians have been moving from mass direct assaults on IDF positions
to more sniper attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians. He said the
number of shooting incidents had actually increased since the weekend. He
added that troops remain on very high alert along the border with Lebanon
in anticipation of more armed attacks from Syrian-backed Hizbullah Muslim
militia forces.

Hamas May Have Chemical Weapons
11/29/00

Reportedly, a translation of the Al-Hayat Al-Jadida newspaper is today
saying that deceased Palestinian bomb maker Ibrahim Beni Ouda had produced
the chemical weapon.
Ibrahim Beni Ouda, an alleged member of the Hamas Izzadin el-Kassim
Brigades, was killed when a car he was riding in exploded on 23 Nov 2000.
It is not currently known who is in possession of the chemical weapon, if,
it in fact, exists. If the report is true, ERRI counter-terrorist analysts
say that it could pose an extreme danger to Israeli citizens and if used,
cause a major escalation in the current "Intifada."

Saddam Hussien has made no secret of his support for the Palestinians, and
has even pledged some of his 'Oil For Food" money to the PA. It is also an
open secret that Saddam has a stockpile of chemical and biological weapons
of sufficient quantities to wipe out every human being on earth. All he
lacks is the delivery system. Saddam has at least five thousand gallons of
botulinim toxin, the most deadly nerve agent on earth, not to mention
massive quantities of VX nerve gas, anthrax and other chemical and
biological agents.

Syria, also no friend to Israel, has an impressive stockpile of similar
weapons. And Damascus, unlike Baghdad, has a delivery system capable of
carrying these weapons directly to the Israeli population.

The situation continues to escalate, and it was just a matter of time
before one of the radical lunatic groups like Hamas or Hezbollah got their
hands on some of what are often called the 'poor man's nuclear weapons'.
Whether or not they will use them depends, not on their unwillingness to
use them against innocent civilians, but on whether or not they could get
away with their use.

The Days of Noah
11/28/00

A biotech company has taken out a Europe-wide patent on a process which
campaigners claim would allow hybrid animals to be developed with body
parts originating from humans. An Australian company, Amrad, was granted
the patent last year, which covers embryos containing cells both from
humans and from 'mice, sheep, pigs, cattle, goats or fish'. Church groups
have already reacted with outrage, denouncing the patent as 'morally
offensive'.

Details in the patent do not make it clear what use these mixed-species
embryos would be put to, but experts are in no doubt that the potential is
there to create a hybrid creature. On this one, we have to agree with the
Catholic Church. A spokesman for the Catholic Church said: 'To patent a
process where human life is used as a kind of bank to deposit into animals
is morally indefensible.'

Dr Donald Bruce, a spokesman for European churches on bioethics, said:
'This patent should never have been passed. If people are talking about
using human cells in animals, that is completely unacceptable.'

Last month the European Patent Office claimed it would never grant a
patent on mixed-species embryos as they are considered against 'public
order and morality'. But this patent, discovered by a researcher in
Greenpeace's German office, was taken out in January 1999 and has since
been sold to US company Chemicon International.

Thomas Schweiger of Greenpeace called on the European Patent Office to
withdraw it. Schweiger believes that one possible use might be to grow
human organs in animals for transplantation.

According to the patent, the process starts by isolating a special
hormone, the objective of which is to stimulate the growth of embryonic
cells; known as stem cells. These stem cells are the 'master cells' which
could in theory be used to produce virtually any type of replacement
tissue for a damaged body.

Amrad chief executive John Grace denied his company had ever conducted
research in this field and said the patent would not be used to create
animals with human cells. He said the process was mainly used to produce
genetically engineered mice for research.

That's dreaming out loud. History shows that once a process like this is
legitimized, it takes on a life of its own. The Bible speaks of a time
when a form of hybrid human beings did exist. Genesis Chapter 6 tells of
fallen angels who intermarried with human women.

The hybrid half angel, half human offspring, according to Genesis were
'giants on the earth, mighty men who were of old, men of renown." These
hybrid beings were so offensive to God that He sent the Flood to wipe them
from the face of the earth. Only Noah and his family, untainted by these
hybrids, were permitted to escape.

Jesus mentioned this period in relation to His return, as well. He said,
"as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be also in the days of the Son
of Man". [Luke 17:26] Strange days. Days like these.

Advanced Biometrics gives security a hand

By Renee Boucher Ferguson, eWEEK

Advanced Biometrics inc. is developing biometric track ball and mouse
technology to be used in identification and authentication.

The track ball or mouse, provisionally named Live Grip, maps the
substructure of the human hand by measuring veins, deep creases, scars
and
fatty tissue density through infrared light.

With alpha testing scheduled for the first quarter of next year and with
e-commerce beta testers signed on, the company is targeting the technology
for business-to-business Web sites, credit card issuers and financial
institutions.

The company is planning an initial launch of Live Grip during the second
quarter and will be targeting both the B2B and consumer markets.

Advanced Biometrics has spun off a separate company, called DigiKnox, to
be the central data storage warehouse for the potential millions of
substructure scans. Officials said DigiKnox will purchase a bank to
warehouse the database servers in an actual vault.

DigiKnox will also be targeting OEMs such as Logitech International S.A.,
Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) and Kensington Microware Ltd. to
install the substructure infrared scanner directly in track balls and
mice.

DigiKnox is still in the genesis phase, with a verbal commitment for $100
million in funding but no signed documents. The company is expected to
announce that it has hired a "very influential" member of the credit card
industry as president.

Cutting costs

The authentication technology could help e-commerce companies cut the
cost
of doing business, said Advanced Biometrics President and DigiKnox CEO
John Stiver.

"One of the things that is important is that e-commerce sites are in a
high-risk category," Stiver said. "They are paying 8 or 9 percent to be
able to use credit card transactions. A brick-and-mortar [company] is only
paying 2 1/2 to 3 percent for each transaction. What we want to do is
attack that difference."

While Stiver acknowledged that it may be more difficult to reach consumers
initially, some analysts believe that may be understating the case.

"Biometrics are viable," said Peter Lindstrum, an analyst with Hurwitz
Group Inc., in Philadelphia. "But the challenge of getting equipment to
users is difficult to overcome. With business-to-business, there is more
control but [fewer] users. Deploying track balls is pretty much impossible
for any business-to-consumer regard."

ACLU FILES SUIT FAVORING VOTE-SWAPPING SITES
American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) lawyers Alan Dershowitz
and Jamin Raskin have filed a federal lawsuit against California's
secretary of state to keep the state from closing vote-swapping
Web sites. Vote swapping was an idea intended to help Ralph Nader
obtain the five percent of the vote needed for federal matching
funds. The idea was to convince Nader supporters to vote for Gore
in closely contested states, and Democrats in other states would
then vote for Nader. Webmaster Alan Porter shut his
Votexchange2000.com site down when he heard California Secretary
of State William Jones' was enforcing the state's zero-tolerance
policy towards vote-swapping sites. The arrangements developed on
Porter's site and others like it fall under the legal confines of
protected speech, according to the ACLU. "Now we want to set legal
precedent to deal with the issue once and for all," said Porter
who currently owns the "Votexchange2004" domain name.

THEOLOGICAL VALUES AND INTERRELIGIOUS DIALOGUE
Pope's Address at the Wednesday General Audience

VATICAN CITY, NOV. 29, 2000 (ZENIT.org).- Here is a translation of John
Paul's address at today's general audience.

1. The grandiose fresco of the Apocalypse, which has just been presented
to us, is crowded not only with the people of Israel, represented
symbolically by the twelve tribes, but also by that multitude of people
from every land and culture, all wrapped in the white garments of luminous
and blessed eternity. I take my cue from this thought-provoking evocation
to refer to the interreligious dialogue, a topic that has become very
current in our times.

All the just of the earth raise their praise to God, united at the
threshold of glory, after having traveled along the steep and tiring road
of earthly life. They have passed "through the great tribulation" and
obtained purification through the blood of the Lamb, "shed on behalf of
many for the forgiveness of sins" (Matthew 26:28). All, therefore,
participate in the same source of salvation that God poured out on
humanity. Indeed, "God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the
world, but that the world might be saved through him" (John 3:17).

2. Salvation is offered to all nations, as the covenant with Noah already
attested (see John 9:8-17), which testifies to the universality of the
divine manifestation and of the human response in faith (see Catechism of
the Catholic Church, No. 58). Then, in Abraham, "all the families of the
earth shall bless themselves" (Genesis 12:3). They are moving toward the
Holy City, to enjoy that peace that will change the face of the world,
when swords will be beaten into plowshares, and spears into pruning hooks
(see Isaiah 2:2-5).

We are moved when reading these words in Isaiah: "The Egyptians will serve
with Assyria. ... [T]he Lord of hosts blesses it: 'Blessed be my people
Egypt, and the work of my hands Assyria, and inheritance, Israel'" (Isaiah
19:23,25). "The princes of the peoples," the Psalmist sings, "assemble
with the people of the God of Abraham. For the rulers of the earth belong
to God, who is enthroned on high" (Psalm 47:10). Better still, the prophet
Malachi feels a kind of breath of adoration and praise of God rising from
the whole horizon of humanity: "From the rising of the sun, even to its
setting, my name is great among the nations; and everywhere they bring
sacrifice to my name, and a pure offering; for great is my name among the
nations, says the Lord of hosts" (Malachi 1:11). Indeed, the same prophet
asks himself: "Have we not all the one Father? Has not the one God created
us?" (Malachi 2:10).

3. Therefore, a certain kind of faith opens in the invocation to God, even
when his face is "unknown" (see Acts 17:23). The whole of humanity tends
toward authentic adoration of God and the fraternal communion of men under
the action of the "Spirit of truth operating outside the visible confines
of the Mystical Body" of Christ ("Redemptor Hominis," No. 6).

In this connection, St. Irenaeus recalls that there are four covenants
established by God with humanity: with Adam, Noah, Moses and Jesus
Christ
(see "Adversus Haereses," 3,11,8). The first three, stretching ideally
toward the fullness of Christ, articulate the dialogue of God with his
creatures, a meeting of revelation and love, of illumination and grace
that the Son gathers in unity, seals with the truth, leads to perfection.

4. In this light, the faith of all peoples blossoms into hope. The latter
is not yet illuminated by the fullness of revelation, which places it in
relation with the divine promises and makes it a "theological" virtue.
Nevertheless, the sacred books of religions are open to hope in the
measure in which they open a horizon of divine communion, delineating in
history a goal of purification and salvation; they promote the search for
truth and defend the values of life, of sanctity and justice, of peace and
liberty. With this profound tension, which endures even in the midst of
human contradictions, the religious experience opens men to the divine
gift of charity and to its demands.

The interreligious dialogue is placed in this horizon, to which the Second
Vatican Council has encouraged us (see "Nostra Aetate," No. 2). Such
dialogue is manifested in the common effort of all believers for justice,
solidarity and peace. It is expressed in cultural relations, which sow a
seed of idealness and transcendence in the often-arid earth of politics,
economics and social life. It finds a qualified moment in the religious
dialogue, in which Christians bear the complete witness of faith in
Christ, only Savior of the world. By the same faith, they are aware that
the road toward the fullness of truth (see John 16:13) calls for humility
in listening, in order to grasp and cherish every ray of light, which is
always the fruit of the Spirit of Christ, no matter where it comes from.

5. "The Church's mission is to foster the Kingdom of our Lord and his
Christ, at whose service she is placed. Part of her role consists in
recognizing that the inchoate reality of this Kingdom can be found also
beyond the confines of the Church, for example in the hearts of the
followers of other religious traditions, insofar as they live evangelical
values and are open to the action of the Spirit" (Pontifical Council for
Interreligious Dialogue and Congregation for the Evangelization of
Peoples, "Dialogue and Announcement," No. 35). This is especially valid --
as indicated to us by the Second Vatican Council in the "Nostra Aetate"
declaration -- for the monotheist religions of Judaism and Islam. I
formulated this hope with this spirit, in the bull inaugurating the
Jubilee Year: "May the Jubilee serve to advance mutual dialogue until the
day when all of us together -- Jews, Christians, Muslims -- will exchange
the greeting of peace in Jerusalem" ("Incarnationis Mysterium," No. 2). I
thank the Lord for having given me, in my recent pilgrimage to the Holy
Places, the joy of this greeting, the promise of relations marked by ever
more profound and universal peace. [Translation by ZENIT] ZE00112904

EUTHANASIA IS NO STRANGER IN MANY COUNTRIES
Illegal, Yes, But It Is Widely Tolerated

ROME, NOV. 29, 2000 (ZENIT.org).- The new Dutch law allowing euthanasia
won't take effect until next year. But the practice of euthanasia is
already tolerated in many other countries.

In Denmark, the relative of a terminally ill patient can decide to have
medical treatments withdrawn. Since 1992, in the case of terminal illness
or grave accident, the Danes can execute a "medical testament," which
doctors must respect.

In Sweden, to "assist in suicide" is not a crime punishable by law. In
extreme cases, a doctor can shut down a respiratory machine.

Euthanasia is illegal in the United Kingdom. However, in 1993 and 1994,
the justice system authorized some doctors to end the life of patients
kept alive artificially. In a first, a patient in Scotland in 1996 was
"authorized to die."

The French government Committee of Ethics in Medicine and Biology (CCNE)
last March opened the door to the possibility of euthanasia in
"exceptional" cases. The committee, which is the highest consultative body
in France on ethical questions in medicine and biology, listed as
exceptional cases those in which pain cannot be controlled.

In the United States, federal law prohibits euthanasia. Since 1994, Oregon
is the only state that allows euthanasia. It allows it for terminally ill
patients if a formal application is presented. In April 1996, the 2nd U.S.
Circuit Court of Appeals, which has jurisdiction over New York, Vermont
and Connecticut, authorized medical euthanasia.

In May 1997, the Constitutional Court in Colombia allowed euthanasia for
patients in the terminal phase, who specifically requested it.

China allows hospitals to practice euthanasia for incurable patients in
their terminal phase.

In 1996 in Australia, the Parliament of the Northern Territories voted on
a law to legalize euthanasia. But the law was abrogated at the federal
level a few months later. ZE00112902

VATICAN, SLOVAKIA CONCORDAT STILL CONTROVERSIAL

Controversy still surrounds the Slovak state's concordat with the Vatican
signed last week, which was 4 years in preparation and is awaiting
ratification by parliament. Prior to governmental approval in mid-August,
some media criticized the government for what they claimed was its
preferential treatment of the Catholic Church. Catholic representatives
have told Keston News Service that the concordat will help other churches
secure their rights -- but not all agree, some viewing the concordat as a
symptom of preferential treatment towards Catholics that the amendment to
the religion law guaranteeing religious equality will go only some way to
addressing.

Since the end of Communist rule in Eastern Europe, the Holy See has
signed concordats defining the position of the Catholic Church within a
country with many Eastern European states, most recently with Latvia on
Nov. 8. According to 1991 census figures, the Catholic Church is Slovakia's
largest religious community, with roughly 3.3mn members (out of a total
population of roughly 5.3mn), followed by the Augsburg Lutheran Church
with over 350,000 members, the Greek Orthodox Church with 180,000
members, and the Reformed Christian Church with over 80,000.

Supporters of the concordat argued that it is an international agreement
between states rather than between church and state. Nevertheless, many
of the most sensitive points -- financing, education, access to the army an d
police -- were left out of the final version, with only a declaration that
separate agreements on these issues will be signed at a later, unspecified,
time.

The spokesman for the Slovak Bishops' Conference, Marian Gavenda, said
that fears of discrimination are "unjustified." In his view, the concordat only
anchors more firmly relations that already exist, and the "prestige of an
international agreement" provides a "certain guarantee" -- for example, if
the regime changes. He argues that the more rights and privileges the
Catholic Church manages to get at the international level, the better for a ll
churches, since the state must adopt corresponding domestic laws.

Daniela Horinkova, secretary of the Augsburg Lutheran Church, alleges
that parts of the concordat discriminate against other churches, for exampl e
in the area of education, where she sees a de facto "catholicization" of th e
school system. The chairman of the Seventh-Day Adventists, Emmanuel
Duda, however, considers the Catholic Church's claim "an opportunistic
statement." "I don't see [the concordat] as a positive step. It has given r ise
to tension." Specifically, Duda points to Article 20, which he feels will
guarantee the Catholic Church full financing from the state budget "at the
expense of other churches."

The chairman of the Slovak Methodist Church, Pavel Prochazka, said that
he does not see the concordat as discriminatory but feels that although the
Catholic Church does not receive preferential treatment de jure, de facto i t
has a privileged position. "But the problem lies elsewhere: if you sign an
international agreement with one church and then with others [you
discriminate]; if you sign them at the same time, you give them the same
worth." (Catholic World News)

"PERFECT STORM" THREATENS MARKETS, STRATEGIST SAYS

The United States is heading for a "perfect storm," which will drive down
stock prices and force the economy into a recession, says Barton Biggs,
veteran global strategist for investment bank Morgan Stanley Dean Witter
in London. He says that capital spending and the technology-led boom is
fading and the economy is being buffeted by the "perfect storm" of a fallin g
NASDAQ, rising oil prices and central bank rate increases. (The Dallas
Morning News)

HOARDERS' HORROR AT SWITCH TO EURO

Billions of francs tucked away under French mattresses will soon be
exposed to the pitiless scrutiny of the tax man, thanks to the introduction of
the single currency. Once the euro becomes legal tender in 2002, prudent
peasants, tradesmen who work "on the black" and dodgy businessmen will
have 6 months to convert their cash. The prospect is causing headaches in
a country where the population, especially in rural areas, has traditionall y
been reluctant to entrust savings to banks.

The Bank of France calculates that 75% of 500 franc (£50) notes -
the biggest denomination - and 20% of 200 franc notes are out of
circulation. That means that £15bn in banknotes is stashed away in
sock drawers and safes. Changing to euros, however, risks exposing
hoarded wealth to the tax authorities. Regulations aimed at combating
money laundering mean that deposits of more than £5,000 are
automatically reported to the "Fisc", regarded by large sections of French
society as the enemy.

Banks have been inundated by anxious callers asking what will become of
their money. Some bank staff have been advising people to change their
nest-eggs bit by bit so as not to attract unwelcome attention. Antique shop
owners, art dealers and jewellers are looking forward to an increase in
business as rich misers seek assets they can subsequently sell. (The

EUROPE DRAWS UP "NEW CONSTITUTION"

The European Commission is writing a document that will encapsulate the
aims of the EU, leading to further accusations that the EU is developing in to
a superstate. BBC Radio Four's Today programme reported this morning
that the document is intended to consolidate various defining charters of t he
EU into a single text. Critics will say that this makes the document into
what is effectively a European constitution. The new document is still in i ts
infancy and will not be discusseed at next month's Nice summit. (The
London Telegraph)

* The EU faces accusations that it is secretly drawing up a Euro-
constitution following news that it is working on a document setting out it s
fundamental purposes. Eurosceptics have attacked the move as taking the
EU a step closer towards becoming a federal superstate. The draft treaty is
intended to rationalise the principles already set out in the Maastricht Tr eaty
and the Treaty of Rome, putting in plain language the fundamental aims of
the EU.

But European Commissioner Chris Patten, the Conservative former cabinet
minister, has insisted the aim of the document is to set boundaries to the
EU's powers. Mr Patten welcomed the document, which is being drawn up
by a committee of experts. The rough proposed treaty includes policy
guidelines and also recommends mandatory membership of the single
European currency.

"I think it is time to have a statement of principals and a charter of
competence, some people have even dared to call it a constitutional
framework, setting out what should be done at a European level and what
should be done at a national level," Mr Patten told BBC Radio 4's Today
programme. "We have to make clear in the treaty that there is no question
of subsuming the individual nations in some other structure, so people
cannot go on pretending we're on a journey to some ghastly superstate."

But shadow foreign secretary Francis Maude said the new document would
expand the EU's powers. "It is still in the superstate model, the old bloc
model, which is an outdated dogma, it is a relic of the Cold War," he told the
same programme. "What a modern Europe needs is to be enlarged, to heal
the divide that disfigures Europe, separating eastern and central Europe
from western Europe. We need a flexible Europe, with independent nations
co-operating together. This document doesn't do that, it takes us further a nd
further down the relentless one-way conveyor belt towards the superstate."

Europe Minister Keith Vaz insisted that the document was not a
constitution. "I think it is important to define the limits, I think that's what
people want to do. But this report was produced in May of this year, it's
been around for quite a long time. The reason why people are getting
worked up about it of course is that here's another opportunity for the
eurosceptics ... to have a little dig and to produce some more scare storie s
about a constitution. A debate of this kind is perfectly acceptable and we
will look at the proposals and we will have our own views. I don't see what
the fuss is about."

Liberal Democrat foreign affairs spokesman Menzies Campbell said said
the time was right for a European constitution. It would, he said, give
certainty and transparency and "would certainly mean that the debate about
the extent and limits of the existing treaties would no longer be conducted in
the kind of arid and ill-informed way in which it is at the present." (BBC)

N.A.T.O. WINS INDEFINITE CEASEFIRE IN SERBIA

Western peacekeepers in Kosovo have moved quickly to stamp out the
latest Balkans crisis in an attempt to support Yugoslavia's democratically
elected President, Vojislav Kostunica. KFOR, the NATO-led peacekeeping
force, said yesterday it had persuaded Serbs and Albanians to observe an
"indefinite" ceasefire in the Presevo valley, where 4 Serb policemen have
been killed in recent days. Diplomats were relieved that dialogue appeared
to have brought results, in contrast to the murderous politics of the past
decade.

One seasoned Balkan hand said: "The election of Kostunica does not mean
the Kosovo question has been solved. Serbs and Albanians still hate each
other. But we are getting to the point where we can have a dialogue of
moderates." He added wearily that the Balkans were "like Russian dolls" -
each ethnic crisis contained another within it.

With the former dictator Slobodan Milosevic trying to make a political
comeback, Western capitals want at all costs to avoid reopening the
emotive issue of Kosovo. Mr Kostunica is still consolidating his power and,
with Serbian elections due next month, another round of ethnic bloodletting
would expose him to accusations that he was failing to defend Serb
interests.

The downfall of Milosevic is causing Western countries to re-align their
strategies. A year after bombing Yugoslavia and taking direct control of
Kosovo, NATO finds itself stepping up border patrols and searches to
protect Serbia, and has even adopted Belgrade's language in denouncing
Albanian "terrorists". Lord Robertson, the NATO Secretary-General, said
the attacks were the work of "a handful of terrorists who have no interest
in stability in that region".

After defeating Milosevic's bloodsoaked campaign for a Greater Serbia, the
West must now contend with the demands for a "Greater Albania".
Western appetite for Kosovo's independence, which could have a knock-on
impact on other countries with Albanian minorities, has been greatly
diminished by the election of Mr Kostunica.

Some diplomats see the Albanian attacks in Presevo, a mainly Albanian
enclave within Serbia, as a deliberate attempt to by Albanian hardliners
sidelined by the victory of the moderate nationalist Ibrahim Rugova in last
month's Kosovo elections to raise the nationalist stakes. KFOR soldiers
have so far tried to avoid direct confrontations with Albanian gunmen. "Our
strategic challenge is to create space for moderates to talk," said one
diplomat. In the long term the answer has to be some kind of integration in
Europe where issues of sovereignty are more fuzzy." (The London
Telegraph)

ROMANIANS SEE A REFORMER IN THEIR OFFBEAT RIGHTIST

Corneliu Vadim Tudor's spin doctor has his work cut out. "Handling
Vadim's image," said Radu Toma, Mr. Tudor's aide, "is mostly telling him to
calm down, calm down. I tell him not to be just in the eye of the hurricane ,
but also not to be the hurricane itself. Just to put his hand into it once in a
while." Mr. Toma tried to rein in the whirlwind during an election-night
interview in Mr. Tudor's office as 30 supporters lined the walls, murmuring
assent or calling out words or figures the chief was searching for. "What
the president means when he says the law must be enforced with a
machine gun," Mr. Toma said at one point, miming a soldier with a slung
weapon, "is not that he will shoot people, but that the machine gun is on t he
shoulder."

Mr. Tudor, president of the Greater Romania Party, finished second in
Romania's presidential election Sunday, qualifying for a runoff and stunnin g
even himself. "It's a miracle! A miracle! I believe in God - like you, sir, " he
assured a reporter whose religious inclinations he knew nothing about. (He
added that he found America's elections alarming and that he favors
George W. Bush, who "is spiritual like me, a Christian," rather than Al Gor e,
who spent 8 years associated with President Clinton, who refused to halt
the bombing of Yugoslavia for Easter in 1999.)

Mr. Toma's work is cut out mostly because the first words out of many
Romanians' mouths when Mr. Tudor's name is raised are: "Vadim? He's
crazy." Crazy or calm, he got the votes of many Romanians on Sunday.
With 98% of the votes counted, Mr. Tudor had 28.47% of the vote, far
ahead of the pack of centrist technocrats whose fractious coalition ran the
country for the last 4 years. And the outcome put him less than 10 points
behind former President Ion Iliescu, who is famous for calming the 1989
street-fighting that ended the dictatorship of Nicolae Ceausescu. Mr. Ilies cu
ran the country until 1996.

Polls said that Mr. Tudor did particularly well among the young, the poor
and the less educated. Many young Romanians know nothing of Mr.
Tudor's past as the "court poet" in the Ceausescu regime and are not
concerned about his desire to recover bits of Romania lost since 1918. They
have not read his magazines, which refer to "dirty Jews," "fascist
Hungarians" and "criminal Gypsies" and have published lists of his politica l
enemies and their addresses just as vengeful miners he has stirred up are
marching on Bucharest. Rather, they have seen him on television in the last
few weeks, when he stuck to his "liquidate the Mafia" message and
promised 500,000 jobs by reviving Romanian factories whose products he
says the Third World is still clamoring for - tractors, weapons, medicines
and drilling tools.

Mr. Tudor speaks rivetingly, with many joking asides, spinning parables out
of his wide knowledge of world history. He loves America right up from its
roots, for example, preferring the Pilgrim vision to Walter Raleigh's
commercial one. Bogdan Chirieac, chief editorial writer for the newspaper
Adevarul, calls Mr. Tudor a "deep extremist" who has remade himself to
get votes. Mr. Chirieac points out that Hitler came to power when
Germany was as desperate as Romania is because of its lagging economy.
But he feels the comparisons to Hitler end there. "He's a big mouth, but
quite a cowardly person," Mr. Chirieac said. "I strongly don't believe he
would provoke international conflict."

In fact, Mr. Tudor is more reminiscent of Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the showy
and once influential Russian nationalist, but cuts a somewhat sillier figur e.
Mr. Tudor went out to vote in a thick fog wearing bug-eyed movie star
sunglasses, and he hands out books of his romantic poetry, which in
translation is a bit maudlin but full of original images. He practically be gs a
questioner to "punish your informers" who have called him an anti Semite.
"What must I do to explain that I am a friend of the Jewish people?" he
asks, citing Jacob's struggle with an angel and declaiming, "I carry a Bibl e!"
while waving a copy of the New Testament.

When asked about his magazines' references to Jews, Mr. Tudor rapidly
says that they were mistranslations, that they were "jokes," that others
wrote them, that he writes in a "pamphleteer" style, that one Jew who
complained is a former Soviet agent who wrote "4 books of lies about the
United States" and that he hates no one because he pays out of his own
salary for a "Christian supper for 130 families" of all ethnic backgrounds.

Mr. Toma, who lived in New York for 20 years, explained more calmly that
Mr. Tudor was born in 1949, the son of a poor Baptist tailor and a
Romanian Orthodox mother, in a section of Bucharest "someplace like
north of 96th Street, where there were Romanians, Jews, Gypsies all
together, so there was no reason to hate anybody." But Mr. Tudor's
generation was taught by its parents that communism arrived on Soviet
tanks in 1944, and, he said, "used the quislings at hand and brought in oth ers,
mainly Jewish." The feeling that Jews had sold the country to the Soviets
pervades Mr. Tudor's generation, Mr. Toma said. (Int'l Herald Tribune)

BACKLASH HITS LAST OF THE MOROCCAN JEWS

The last of the Arab world's vibrant Jewish communities is only a few
planeloads away from demise. For decades, Morocco prided itself as a
symbol of Jewish-Muslim co-existence. The official newspaper, Le Matin,
still prints its dateline in the Jewish calendar. Now that is in jeopardy. As
outrage at the killings of Palestinians by Israeli security forces rises,
Islamists are calling for the head of Andre Azoulay, King Mohammed's
economic adviser and the last remaining senior Jewish official in the Musli m
world.

"We're living a tragedy," said Mr Azoulay, from his office in the palace.
"We have anti-Jewish groups who are using the failure of the peace
process to encourage a racist, anti-Jewish mood." Last month, hundreds of
thousands of Islamists marched outside the palace walls, denouncing Mr
Azoulay as a Zionist and demanding his dismissal. Sheikh Zimzami, a
spiritual mentor of Justice and Development, Morocco's legal Islamist party ,
said: "Jews sympathise with Israel. They cannot be trusted with the affairs
of a Muslim state."

Under the late Hassan II, Morocco gave Jews "rights of return". Israel's
600,000 Jews of Moroccan origin were entitled to Moroccan passports,
even if they had fought in the Israeli army. Shortly before his death last
year, Hassan summoned rabbis from Israel to his Marrakech palace to
bless him. Now the remaining Jews fear for their position. Over the course
of 6 Arab-Israeli wars, the Jewish population has gone from 250,000 in
1948 to 3,000. A rise in Islamist attacks and a recession is chasing the
survivors away.

"Casablanca could have been North Africa's New York," said a Jewish
businessman who has put his textile firm up for sale. "There could have
been a million Jews in the city. Instead we're witnessing the funeral of
Morocco's Jewish community." King Mohammed, Hassan's son, has moved
to stem the attacks. In a televised appeal, he said Morocco would not
abandon its religious and historical duties towards its Jewish subjects. Po lice
have been posted at synagogue gates and in Casablanca the security forces
have used tear gas and baton charges to disperse stone-throwing pro-
Palestinian protesters, killing one of them.

But observers say the closure of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat shows
that King Mohammed will go further than his father to appease his subjects.
"Gaza-blanca" blazed one headline amid fears that Palestine's intifada may
spread. This week Pinhas Cohen, a pop icon and a Moroccan Jew, was
sentenced to three years in jail and a £9.3mn fine for currency
smuggling. Jewish businessmen say that, by making Morocco's most
popular Jew a target, the courts were casting doubt on the loyalties of the
whole community. Despite the change in mood, Jews say Morocco still
remains safer than France - which has been the scene of more than 70
arson attacks on Jewish targets. (The London Telegraph)

NO MIRAGE

Spillover of water from Nile River brings new lakes to Sahara Desert

A change of biblical proportions is washing across the Sahara Desert. For
the first time in 6,000 years, new lakes have risen from the sands of
southern Egypt. The Nile River, swollen by unusual rainfall,is spilling ove r a
reservoir behind the Aswan High Dam. As expected, the water flows
through an arroyo into an overflow lake. But the deluge has continued, and
3 more lakes now unexpectedly dot the desert. In a land where water is
scarce, this development could hold great promise, scientists say.

The Egyptian government has already begun an irrigation project around the
first lake. The "New Valley" project aims to draw people from Egypt's
crowded cities to a newly green landscape. But project leaders hadn't
planned on the bounty of 3 extra reservoirs. "The big question is whether
they will make use of the rest of the lakes," said Mohamed Abdelsalam, a
geologist at the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Abdelsalam and other
UTD scientists have been monitoring the lakes' growth through satellite
imagery. This month, the team brought the lakes to scientific attention by
describing them at a meeting in Reno, Nev., of the Geological Society of
America.

First spotted in 1998, the new lakes have fluctuated in size and shape
through dry spells and monsoons. Together, the lakes hold about 700bn
cubic feet of water =96 1/4 the Nile's total water supply. "That's a lot of Nile
water," said Allison Thurmond, a UTD graduate student. The lakes could
provide a crucial resource in a country whose population is expected to
surpass 100mn within the next 3 decades, Dr. Abdelsalam said. More than
90% of those people crowd within 6 miles of the Nile.

Of course, the lakes might not survive more than a year or two. They exist
only because the Ethiopian highlands have received lots of rain in the last 2
years, Dr. Abdelsalam said. That water flows down the highlands and into
the Nile, eventually coming to a halt behind the Aswan dam. Because of
this rain, Lake Nasser, the giant reservoir at Aswan, is at its highest lev el
ever. But when the level reaches roughly 600 feet, excess water spills
through a canal into a nearby dimple in the landscape, known as the Toshka
depression. Here, the Egyptian government has built the New Valley
project, a massive effort to irrigate the land and resettle people away fro m
the Nile.

The first of the 4 new lakes =96 the one for which engineers had planned =96 is
known as Toshka Lake. The other 3 still go by the uninspiring names of
lakes B, C and D, Ms. Thurmond said. Astronauts aboard the space shuttle
Discovery snapped the first pictures of Toshka Lake in October 1998.
Lakes B and C appeared between February and March 1999. The final
lake, D, formed sometime between August 1999 and last January, Ms.
Thurmond said. Lake D is the biggest, with a surface area of nearly 700
square kilometers. Lake C is long and skinny; placed on top of a local map,
it would stretch from downtown Dallas to downtown Fort Worth. Toshka
Lake alone would drown most of Dallas. (The Dallas Morning News)

MINI-DESPATCH. November 30, 2000

JOEL'S ARMY AND THE BOOK OF JOEL. The false teaching on Joel's
Army of believers who will take the world and have dominion over it is strong
in our day. So is the belief that there will be a great Latter Day Rain
outpouring in the near future, a revival which will sweep the churches of
Christendom into power with millions being converted, nations and lands
"redeemed" and naturally this will "release" to the churches finances and
properties to support Christendom's global "rule." To understand the depth of
the deception which is involved in these fake "Kingdom Now" teachings, it
would be of great benefit to read what the Book of Joel actually does say and
predict about the Endtimes, as this book is used as a source for the false
claims of Joel's Army doctrines. With this aim in view, there follows a brief
outline of the teachings and prophecies of Joel. I will comment briefly on the
counterfeit teachings of our day on the book of Joel as we proceed. (The
Bible teaching presented by ourselves herein is recognized teaching,
fundamental and evangelical standard doctrine - true to God's Word
throughout. These notes are presented, with credit given to Willmington's
Guide to the Bible, Dr H.L. Willmington, Tyndale House pub.).

NOTE: there is a great deception amongst Christians today. This is the
deception of "that is your interpretation, these other teachers have their own
interpretation." This faulty reasoning makes it seem that the Bible can be
understood in many, many ways, as though the Truth was NOT written in its
pages for all to see - if they study and compare Scriptures carefully and
prayerfully. There are NOT many ways of looking at the truths the book of
Joel shows us, a chain reference using a sound KJV Bible will soon make
sense of it all, although there are various applications in Joel's writings.

What are the basic teachings of the Joel's Army heretics?
The Joel's Army fake revival encourages military aggression! These
"revivalists" have changed the concept of Biblical prayer, it has become
aggression on a spiritual level directed at people and things. This
involves coming against principalities and powers in the heavenlies, even
directing aggression against Christians to "free" them from demon
invasion. The amazing teaching is that Joel's end-time army, supposed to
be the dedicated and empowered people of Christendom, is now marching
against Satan, taking a military victory over the evil forces in the
atmosphere and on the planet. The belief is that this army will bring in
the kingdom of God on earth, God's rule will be reclaimed - by the
churches. False prophecies have been foisted upon the unsuspecting since
the inception of Latter Rain doctrines in the 40's to AD 2000 and on.

"The Church is asleep, but when she gets woken up and joins
together in an ARMY, there's not any power anyplace that can stop
her, for she'll know nothing but victory when she joins hands and
becomes one in purpose and that's to REVEAL THE KINGDOM ON THE
      FACE
OF THE EARTH." (School for Prophecy, Session 7, Vineyard Ministries,
      1989).

NOW, LET US EXAMINE JOEL'S WONDERFUL BOOK IN THE OLD
TESTAMENT.

The book of Joel has a contemporary setting, as well as a prophetic
setting. The prophet used an event contemporary in his day to describe
coming events.

  CONTEMPORARY EVENTS-
Joel 1. A Review of Israel's Current Insect Invasion.

Nature: A terrible locust plague had settled down upon the
land (1 :4,12)

Reason: Because of Israel's sin (1 :5)

Suggested cure: Call for a special meeting, pray. and repent. (1 :14)

1. Israel and God's Judgment: A review of the past.11-21.

The locust judgment.

"That which the palmer worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and
that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that
which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten" (1:4).

Some expositors interpret these words as describing the four stages in the
development of the caterpillar, while others consider them to be four
different kinds of insects. Locusts were often sent as a judgment from
God. (See Deut. 28:38-42; Ex. 10:12-15; 1 Ki. 3:37; Rev. 9:1-12.)

[For more on locusts, please see BPR file at
        http://philologos.org/bpr/files/l004.htm]

The title name for the locust judgment.
"Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a
destruction from the Almighty shall it come" (1:15). This is the second
mention in the minor prophets of the term, "The day of the Lord." It can
be found in many passages, both in the Old and New Testaments. (See Isa.
2:12; 13:6,9; Ezek. 13:5; 30:3; Joel 2:1, 11, 31; 3:14; Amos 5:13, 20;
Obad. 1:15, Zeph. 1:7, 14; Zech 14:1; Mal. 4:5; Acts 2:20; 1 Thess. 5:2; 2
Thess. 2:2; 2 Pet. 3:10.) The phrase is almost always a reference to the
seven-year Tribulation period. Here in Joel 1:15, the prophet uses it to
refer to the judgment then going on, and the book leads into the prophetic
unveiling of the Tribulation period of the future.

NOTE: Joel's Army is NOT the Christendom in action at the end of the
Church Age, it is Jehovah's Army in the Tribulation, coming against Satan
- in the day of the Lord.

COMING EVENTS-
Joel 2-3 A Preview of Israel's Coming Enemy Invasion.
The final invasion at the end of the Tribulation, led by the
Antichrist(Rev.16:13-16; 19:11-21)
  Location: Valley of Jehoshaphat (3:2,9-14)

  Purpose:
1. The purpose of Satan-to destroy Israel and her God (Ps.2)
2 The purpose of God-to destroy Satan and his allies (Rev.16:16)

  Results:
1 The salvation of Israel (3:15-21)
2. The sanctification of Israel (2:21-32).

The gathering place of this invasion.

"I will also gather all nations,
and will bring them down into the Valley of Jehoshaphat,
and will judge them there'' (3:2). (See also 3:9-14-)

NOTE: This battle, the biggest, boldest, bloodiest, and most brazen of all
time, will stretch from the city of Megiddo on the north (Zech. 12:11;
Rev. 16:16), to Edom on the south (Isa. 34:5,6; 63:1), a distance of some
200 miles. It will reach from the Mediterranean Sea on the west to the
hills of Moab on the east, a distance of 100 miles. Thus, the total
fighting area will exceed twenty thousand square miles. The center of the
action will apparently be the Valley of Jehoshaphat, located just east of
Jerusalem, between the Holy City and the Mount of Olives. It is also known
as the Kidron Valley.

[For more on this location, please see BPR file at
        http://philologos.org/bpr/files/a005.htm]

The outcome of this invasion.

"The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall
withdraw their shining. The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and
utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall
shake: but the Lord will the hope of his people and the strength of
the children of Israel" (Joel 3:15, 16). (Also see Rev. 19:11-21.)

NOTE: the Latter Rain revival is NOT happening now, in our day. This will
occur in the Millennial Reign of Christ Jesus, AFTER God has won His
triumphant victory over Satan in the Tribulation! See below: The blessings
after this invasion has been crushed. 1. God's Spirit will be poured out
upon all flesh. (See 2:28-3Z.) It should be noted that this passage event
will mark the fulfillment of Moses' desire. (See Num. 11:29.) Peter would
later quote this passage in Joel on the day of Pentecost. (See Acts
2:16-21.) This he did, not to indicate that Pentecost was the fulfillment
of Joel's prophecy (for it was not), but, rather, as an example of it. 2.
All human needs will be provided for (2:21 -27). 3. Nature itself will be
transformed (3:18). 4. Christ himself will reign in Zion (3:21). Mount
Zion is the height which rises close to the southwest corner of the old
walled city. It was once within the walls of ancient Jerusalem It is held
to be one of the most sacred places in Israel, because there is located
the traditional tomb of King David. Above it is an upper room believed to
be on the site of that upper room in which Jesus and his disciples ate the
last Passover together and where he established the Communion service
(Mk. 14:12-16; Lk. 22:7-13). This upper room has also been considered to be
the place where the twelve disciples were gathered when the Holy Spirit came
upon them on the day of Pentecost (Act 1:12-14; 2:1-4).

SUMMARY:

What does "afterwards" indicate?
Do not become mystified by the "last days" term.
The Hebrew word acherith has a specific interpretation, "afterwards."
"Afterwards" in Joel 2:28 means "in the last days" (Greek eschatos). This
"last days" must not be confused with the Christian Church's "last days."
The Christian Church's "last days" began with the first advent of Christ
(Heb. 1:2), and always shows apostasy as the Church Age closes. Joel's
"last days" applies to Israel, these "last days" refer to the whole
history of Israel, which moves on into the Millennial Reign where Israel
is head nation.

Keep this distinction in mind as you read the Bible's predictions of the
"last days" of the Church: 1 Timothy 4:1-3; 11 Tim. 3:1-4; Heb. 1:1,2; 1
Pet. 1:4,5; 11 Pet. 3:1-9; 1 John 2:18,19: Jude 17-19. The Book of Joel
does not predict an Army of the Church going out to win a battle over the
entire world, nor does it predict a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit,
such as at Pentecost, happening to the Church in our day. See Joel
2:28,29. That outpouring happens after the Tribulation, in the Millennial
Reign of Christ Jesus, to Israel then through them to the world.

The Lord's Army at Armageddon is seen in Joel 2:11 and relates to
Revelation 19:11-21. The repentance of Judah in the land is seen in Joel
2:12-17 see Deut. 30;1-9. The return of the Lord in glory and the setting
up of His kingdom see Joel 2:30-32 and Acts 15:15-17. The regathering of
the nation of Israel as Christ returns, and the judgement of the Gentile
nations, see Joel 3:1-16. Permanent Kingdom blessings (in the Millennium
Reign of Christ) see Joel 3:17-21; Zech. 14:1-21 and Matthew 25:32.

EXHORTATION -

Stand for God's Truth. Do not compromise with the "Joel's Army" spiritual
militia, or follow the plans of those who seek to take "Christian"
dominion over the earth. Dominion belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ at His
Second Advent:

"It is better to be divided by truth than to be united in error. It
is better to speak the truth that hurts and then heals, than
falsehood that comforts and then kills. Let me tell you something,
friends, it is not love and friendship if we fail to declare the
whole counsel of God. It is better to be hated for telling the
truth, than to be loved for telling a lie. It is impossible to find
anyone in the Bible who was a power for God who did not have enemies
and was not hated. It's better to stand alone with the truth than to
temporarily succeed with a lie. There is only one Gospel [and
prophetic Word of God ] and Paul said, "If any man preach any other
gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him
      be accursed. "
(Ps. Adrian Rodgers, TBC, 12/96).

PA on verge of chaos, top security brass say

                  By Amos Harel
                  Ha'aretz Military Correspondent

Israeli defense officials warn that the the Palestinian Authority appears to be
gradually losing control of the situation in the territories. "The way it looks
right now, the situation is fast going toward a state of anarchy" in PA-held
areas, a senior defense official said yesterday.

He said that the PA is currently acting as if it is two different countries - the
West Bank and the Gaza Strip. He noted that PA leader Yasser Arafat has
not visited the West Bank since the beginning of October, apparently out of
fear that Israel will not allow him to return to his headquarters.

There are six main security bodies operating in the Gaza Strip and West
Bank, headed by chiefs who have competing vested interests. Cooridination
among them is limited.

Israeli officials say that the various Palestinian services probably hide
information from Arafat, so that the PA leader does not have a full picture of
what is happening in the territories.

The official said Arafat can still stop the violence in the territories, but to do
so would mean that the PA security services would pay a high price because
they have to battle Fatah and the Tanzim activists with whom they have until
now been aligned in fighting Israel. He added that Arafat has several times
ordered a halt to shooting from Beit Jala on Gilo, but he has not been heeded
in the field.

Israeli security experts do not discern much willingness or capability among
the Palestinian leadership to end the violence. They recommend easing
access to the Temple Mount for prayers during Ramadan in the hopes that
this will calm the situation. But they add that Palestinian anger over the
many fatalities in recent months is likely to fuel violence.

Spy in the sky fights the flab

BIG BROTHER is being recruited to help people lose weight. Swiss scientists
have tested the ability of the Global Positioning System (GPS)--a network of
24 navigation satellites orbiting the globe--to track people and gauge how
much exercise they're clocking up.

The epidemic of obesity afflicting many Western countries has been blamed in
part on a lack of exercise, and doctors agree that taking more would improve
public health. But it's not clear how much exercise people actually take, and
measuring it accurately has so far proved tricky.

Now Yves Schutz and his research group at the University of Lausanne in
Switzerland have shown that GPS, more commonly used by the military and for
navigation in cars, ships and aircraft, can help count the calories being
burnt. Schutz monitored people while they walked or ran, using GPS receivers
strapped to their backs. He was able to work out their precise position in
three dimensions, and measure how far they went, and how fast.

By monitoring activity 24 hours a day, Schutz hopes to reveal why people are
getting fatter. Beckie Lang, a nutritionist at Cambridge University, agrees
the approach is exciting. Giving people GPS receivers might make them realise
how little they actually do. But, she adds, to lose weight most people also
need to stay off the crisps and croissants.

Dear Friends,

My family also eliminated this holiday for the first time last year. What
a relief it has been, except for the negative response from unsaved family
members. Unfortunately, it is not surprising! It has been very telling for
me that our unsaved acquaintances and family are finding our rejection of
Christmas quite offensive. I noticed after being born-again 6 years ago that
Christmas grew increasingly weary and hypocritical for me. I began to do
some serious research, and discovered the truth of it all. I thank the Lord
for revealing to us all truth! Blessings to all ...:o)

A NEW ALARM ABOUT BIOTERRORISM
Experts on national security, health and biotechnology shared one
message on the threat of bioterrorism Tuesday: Be paranoid. They said
the United States and other nations had finally heard the message
that governments or extremist groups could make easy use of germs
such as anthrax or smallpox to wreak havoc, but had yet to do much
about it. What efforts are being made were bogged down in politics
and turf wars, the experts said at a meeting on bioterrorism.

LIBYAN MISSILES AIMED AT NATO BASES, ISRAEL
Dozens of North Korean No Dong missiles in Libya, each with a range
of 1,100 miles, are aimed at NATO bases in Italy, Spain, Greece and
Turkey, and are capable of striking Israel as well, according to
Israeli intelligence. The missiles, which can carry chemical and
biological warheads, were purchased from an arms dealer living in
Marbella for $497.5 million, said Mossad Director Efrayim Halevi in a
warning sent to NATO intelligence officials. He told NATO the
presence of the missiles in Libya constituted "a major threat to the
region."

BARAK PROPOSES NEW LAND DEAL
Prime Minister Ehud Barak has unveiled proposals for a new interim
peace accord with the Palestinians, offering to recognise a
Palestinian state and withdraw from another 10% of the West Bank. Mr
Barak was speaking at a news conference in the wake of his surprise
announcement on Tuesday that he was ready for elections within the
next six months. The beleaguered prime minister is widely regarded as
needing some kind of peace deal to have any chance of leading his
Labour party to victory in the polls.

BELARUS-RUSSIA UNION PUSHED FORWARD
Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered his government to sign
an agreement on establishing a single currency with Belarus - the
biggest step yet toward adding substance to the two nations' largely
symbolic union. Russian officials have said the currency treaty
would provide for Belarus to adopt the Russian ruble as its official
currency by 2008. The ruble would start circulating in Belarus on
Jan. 1, 2005.

E.U. DRAWS UP A DRAFT 'CONSTITUTION'
The European Union faces accusations that it is secretly drawing up a
Euro-constitution following news that it is working on a document
setting out its fundamental purposes. Eurosceptics have attacked the
move as taking the EU a step closer towards becoming a federal
superstate. The draft treaty is intended to rationalise the
principles already set out in the Maastricht Treaty and the Treaty of
Rome, putting in plain language the fundamental aims of the EU.

PROPOSED RULES BOOST TEACHING OF CREATIONISM
A draft of new standards for teaching science and technology in
Pennsylvania schools includes some subtle, little-noticed changes
that seem to open the door to the controversial idea of teaching
creation theory alongside the theory of evolution. The latest state
standards say teachers can present theories "that do or do not
support the theory of evolution." They also include a phrase saying
that schools may "analyze the impact of new scientific facts on the
theory of evolution." If the standards are approved, Langan said,
they would allow the teaching of creation theory alongside evolution
in public school science classes. http://www.post-

Bible study sues school district
Rights violated, say two teens belonging to Northville group

http://www.detnews.com/2000/religion/0011/30/d01-155396.htm

By Sheri Hall / The Detroit News

NORTHVILLE -- Two teen-agers have filed a lawsuit against Northville
Public Schools, claiming the district discriminates against the Connect for
Christ Bible study group.

Nicolette and Matthew Pearce, siblings and members of the group, accused
the district of violating their First Amendment rights by not letting the
group use the public address system, keeping its picture out of the yearbook
and banning it from meeting during class time.

Federal law requires schools to treat all extracurricular groups equally.
"It's frustrating that they're trying to take my rights away from me," said
17-year-old Nicolette Pearce, a high school senior.

Administrators say they didn't discriminate against Connect for Christ.
"I'm disappointed the lawsuit was filed, but I'm still very supportive of
the group," Supt. Leonard Rezmierski said. "I've personally been working on
resolving this issue for 6 weeks, and I thought we were getting close to a
compromise."

Some 40 to 60 students attend Connect For Christ meetings, where they pray
and discuss religious topics.
"Our group makes the school a better place because you're taking students
who have strong values and morals and having them talk to other students,"
Nicolette Pearce said.

"We began to help students who were making bad choices to turn around and
make better choices."
The group used to meet during a seminar period from 9-10:20 a.m. -- a time
when students can talk with teachers, study or use the media center. But the
district stopped it from meeting during class time in April.

Under state law, only groups related to the school curriculum -- such as
Spanish club or the Quiz Bowl math team -- can meet during instructional time.

Rezmierski said the high school allowed noninstructional groups --
including Connect for Christ -- to meet during the seminar period last year.

He said officials stopped letting all noninstructional groups meet during
school when they learned about the law.
But the lawsuit insists that other noninstructional groups, such as
Students Against Drunk Driving and Mothers Against Drunk Driving and
Adopt-a-Student, are still allowed to meet during the seminar period.

"The schools must have a hostility toward religion," said attorney Richard
Thompson, who is representing the Pearces.

The Baby Jesus is a bald-headed Kmart doll, but so realistic ...
Rheta Grimsley Johnson - Staff
Thursday, November 30, 2000
http://www.accessatlanta.com/partners/ajc/epaper/editions/thursday/features_a3524f9ab2cfb17e0051.html

In the season of rush, rush, rush, some still manage to Brake for Bethlehem.

If you haven't the time or inclination to dress, find a place to park and then
sit for an hour to watch the annual church Christmas pageant, here's the
alternative in our frenetic, Palm-piloted world.

"Three and a half minutes, that's all it takes," Linda Cowen says. "Or, you
can make it last longer if you like."

Linda's the spirited director of a drive-through Christmas pageant, "How Far
to Bethlehem," in its eighth year and fast (I emphasize "fast") on its way to
becoming an area tradition.

Performed in the parking lot of Lithia Springs United Methodist Church, the
play involves 75 actors from eight churches, not to mention dozens of
behind-the-scenes workers, cooks, lighting experts and animals.

The actors work in 30-minute shifts, striking and holding the appropriate pose
for 11 different tableaux. Architect Mike Moreland created the sets.

To stand silent is work, especially in cold weather. So after 30 minutes, it's
shift change time for all. The off-duty crew rushes into the church to warm up
with a bowl of chili or soup and then, half an hour later, is ready to return
to post for a second turn.

No actual humans are harmed during the performance of this play.

The Baby Jesus is a bald-headed Kmart doll, but so realistic, Linda says, that
one bitterly cold night a woman in the drive-through audience threatened to
call authorities.

"We never heard from DFCS," Linda quips. As director and chief bottle-washer,
she has to keep a sense of humor.

"It's hard to be silent and not move for 30 minutes," she says.

Her volunteers range in age from 6 to 75, and, oddly enough, it was adults who
one night began to feel their oats and throw hay at one another in a lull
between passing cars.

"Let's just say they were doing people-type things," the Rev. Charles Green
says with a tolerant smile. This is his first year as pastor of Lithia Springs
United Methodist.

Last year Green rode through the pageant with the rest of the spectators; this
year he'll be filling in for missing shepherds or wise men or, heaven forbid,
Augustus Caesar. It's hard to find people to portray Caesar, who decreed that
all the world should be taxed.

Pageant nights this year are Dec. 10-15, from 7 to 9 p.m., weather permitting.

"We don't fool with any kind of precipitation," Linda qualifies.

As official keeper of the Green Room, she's especially excited about this
year's addition of animals. Darlene Shoales is bringing two llamas, three
goats and a sheep, plus her three children dressed as peasants to clean up
after the livestock.

"I had always wanted animals, but I sure didn't want to be in charge of them,"
Linda admits. "Darlene says she doesn't leave her 'babies' alone."

The church this year also bought its own FM transmitter, which allows the
rolling audience to tune into music and the Christmas story, verse by verse,
to match each scene.

That leaves only a donkey for Linda to aspire to. The one she fashioned from
an artificial deer taxes all but the best imagination --- even bathed in
theatrical light.

This effort, the church believes, perfectly accommodates the young, the old,
the handicapped, the harried. It's free, it's quick, a beautiful way to end a
fast-paced day.

One recent morning the church parking lot was empty but for a few cars.

It will be transformed soon, with nightfall, luminarias and lots of elbow
grease. The easy part is driving through, idling, if you will, for a quick,
painless retelling of an old, old story.

Human Cloning Now for Sale, Reports Medical Webzine Praxis Post

NEW YORK, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Despite a ban on public funding for human
cloning in the US, a Bahamas-based company's efforts to clone the first human
may pay off, according to a UCLA genetics expert. Praxis Post, the webzine of
medicine and culture, reports that 50 volunteers are lined up to carry the
embryo, which will be cloned from the DNA of a dead girl whose parents paid
$200,000 in a quest to bring her back to life.

Although the company's founders, members of the Raelian religion who hold that
aliens created humankind through cloning, are clearly out of the mainstream,
their science may just work. "I wouldn't be surprised at all if they
[succeeded]," Gregory Stock, director of UCLA's Program on Medicine,
Technology, and Society, told Praxis Post. The full article is available

Subject: [bprlist] Time for UN to jettision Vatican?

Time for UN to jettision Vatican?

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/today/nov29/Opinion/eamonn.ncml

By Eamonn McCann Wednesday, November 29 2000

IS it time for a "See-change" at the United Nations? A group of Dutch Euro-MPs
thinks so, and has launched a campaign for the removal of the Vatican from the
world body. The move is in protest against the Vatican's role in blocking
decisions on women's rights and AIDS.

The presence of the Vatican at the UN is one of the most curious anomalies
of the age.

It is commonly assumed the situation arises from the status of Vatican City as
a State. It isn't Vatican City which is recognised at the UN but the Holy See.

The Vatican City dates from the Lateran Treaty of 1929, negotiated between
Pius XI and Mussolini with a view to ring-fencing Church property and central
administration from the laws of the surrounding society.

The Holy See is a more nebulous affair, defining itself as "the supreme organ
of both the Catholic church and the Vatican City State." It has no temporal or
territorial existence, but nevertheless conducts international relations as
the "juridical personification of the Church."The Holy See maintains
diplomatic relations with 157 countries. Its status at the UN is as a
Non-Member State Permanent Observer (NMSPO).

The designation originated in 1946, to make provision for Switzerland -
affiliated to international bodies within the UN's remit but constitutionally
barred from taking up UN membership.

In 1951, Pius XII, citing the Vatican City's affiliation to two international
bodies, the Universal Postal Union and the International Telecommunication
Union, claimed a comparable right, and appointed an auxiliary bishop from New
York to attend the UN on a part-time basis.

By 1964, the presence of the bishop at UN Plaza had become accepted as
custom and practice. Then, Paul VI wrote to Secretary General U Thant,
announcing that the Holy See wished formally to appoint a Permanent Observer
on the Swiss model.

There was no discussion of the proposal in any UN forum. But within three
weeks, U Thant had replied, welcoming the "Holy See" as the organisation's
second NMSPO.

Ever since, nominees of the Pope have been able to attend and speak but not
to vote in the General Assembly and to participate fully in UN-sponsored
international bodies.

The Holy See is now a member of the World Health Organisation, UNESCO, the
International Atomic Energy Agency and so forth. It also plays a prominent
role in gatherings such as the Conference on the Environment and Development
in Rio in 1992, the International Conference on Population and Development in
Cairo in 1994, the World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995 and so on.

It has led the way in blocking initiatives which it considers out of line with
Catholic teaching.

The Cairo conference launched a Programme of Action to address "the critical
challenges of interrelationships between population and sustained economic
growth in the context of sustainable development." The years since have been
marked by Holy See-led efforts to prevent the programme being put into
practice.

The Holy See is particularly opposed to the Programme's acceptance of the
"right of all couples and individuals to decide freely and responsibly the
number, spacing and timing of their children, and to have the information and
means to do so."It was the Holy See's role in relation to Cairo which prompted
the Dutch group, led by MEPs Lousewies van der Laan, Elly Plooij van Goorsel,
and Jok Swiebel, members of the three parties in the Dutch coalition, to
launch their campaign.

They point out that Vatican attempts to stymie the promotion of condoms in
AIDS-ravaged Africa is in direct contradiction to EU-supported programmes.

"The consequences are especially visible in poor countries where millions of
women die as a result of illegal abortions, and millions are contaminated by
the AIDS virus," they say.

The group stresses that it is not anti-Catholic but merely "wishes the
Catholic Church to have the same role as other religions".

Many will agree that what they are saying is sound and simple commonsense.

Witch spells out opposition to union

http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_129494.html?nav_src=newsIndexHeadline

A US white witch who works as an accountancy professor is suing his union
because he says it undermines his religious beliefs of not harming others.

Wiccan witch Robert Hurt says the California Faculty Association is a militant
union which uses its coercive power to hurt people, and that it would be
immoral for him to support it by paying his dues.

The main principle of his religion is that you can do what you want so long as
your actions don't harm anyone.

In his lawsuit, Dr Hurt claims that the association has violated his civil
rights and discriminated against his religion by forcing him to pay mandatory
union fees.

Dr Hurt, a practising Wiccan for 10 years, is seeking unspecified compensatory
damages and lawyers' fees, US Newswire reports.

The lawsuit has been filed on his behalf by the National Right To Work Legal
Defence Foundation, which aims to protect employees from "compulsory unionism
abuse".

Spokesperson Randy Wanke said: "Dr Hurt has the right to exercise his beliefs
without being harassed by union bureaucrats."

Is it safe to assume that you do not celebrate ANY birthdays at your house,
since no scriptural basis is found for it? It would then also follow,
reasonably, that you do not observe Easter (Ishtar) Sunday???,
I wonder if you would eat meat sacrificed to idols (if you catch my drift)?

SSG

[(moderator): Allow me to jump in for a second. Sorry, but I'm afraid I don't get the point your making Shophar. So as to not create an issue where there doesn't really need to be one in my opinion, I'll just quote some Scripture that shows the stance that I believe BPR tries to take on the Christmas issue, as well as Easter, birthdays, and any other holiday:

[Romans 14:1-23 (from God's Word Translation)] -- "One person decides that one day is holier than another. Another person decides that all days are the same. Every person must make his own decision. When people observe a special day, they observe it to honor the Lord. When people eat all kinds of foods, they honor the Lord as they eat, since they give thanks to God. Vegetarians also honor the Lord when they eat, and they, too, give thanks to God. It's clear that we don't live to honor ourselves, and we don't die to honor ourselves...Why do you criticize or despise other Christians? Everyone will stand in front of God to be judged...So let's stop criticizing each other. Instead, you should decide never to do anything that would make other Christians have doubts or lose their faith. The Lord Jesus has given me the knowledge and conviction that no food is unacceptable in and of itself. But it is unacceptable to a person who thinks it is...So whatever you believe about these things, keep it between yourself and God. The person who does what he knows is right shouldn't feel guilty. He is blessed. But if a person has doubts and still eats, he is condemned because he didn't act in faith. Anything that is not done in faith is sin." (Romans 14:1-23 God's Word Translation)

I trust that the individual asking for information on christmas was sent some references (articles, links, Scripture, etc) in response to their question? B? ]

CHURCH OF ENGLAND LOOKS ABOVE FOR NEW REVENUES The
Church of England is encouraging its flock to raise new revenues by fixing
cell phone towers to their church spires. Wireless operators will be
presented with a list of willing churches in January, and preferred bidders will
be selected by April. Churches can expect to receive about US$7,100 a year
from the leases. "The house of God is the house of the people," says the
Rev. William Beaver of the Church of England's telecommunications working
party. "We are serving the people who need mobile phones." Already more
than 50 churches in England and Wales have radio emission masts and
another 100 are rumored to have been approached by telecom operators.

Subject: [bprlist] Israel's Response to Report of the Human Rights Commissioner
From: "research-bpr" <research-bpr@philologos.org>
Date: Thu, 30 Nov 2000 13:57:10 -0500

Israel's Response to Report of the Human Rights Commissioner

(IsraelWire-11/29) Following is the official government response to the report
released by the UN Commissioner on Human Rights, Mary Robinson.

The report of the High Commissioner on Human Rights published on
November 27 expresses its deep concern for the violence in Israel and the
Palestinian Authority. It voices strong reservations about the Palestinian
conduct. The report also includes problematic elements which we find
unacceptable.

The report claims that Israel uses excessive force. During the visit of the
High Commissioner, Mary Robinson, Israel made it clear that the IDF is only
taking action in response to violence, and is acting in self-defense. It is also
using great restraint, with the aim of avoiding civilian casualties, where
possible.

With regard to settlements, this issue will be discussed at the negotiating
table. Israel demonstrated great willingness to discuss this issue during the
Camp David summit, but the Palestinian leadership chose to resort to
violence, instead of exhausting the negotiations process.

The Commissioner believes that the deployment of an international observer
force in the territories should be considered, a matter which is being
discussed in UN forums. In this context, Israel wishes to make it clear that it
opposes the deployment of any international force prior to the
accomplishment of an agreement.

With regard to the implementation of closures which cause some hardship
for the Palestinian population, we wish to clarify that this is an essential
security measure which has been taken following the Palestinian release of
notorious terrorists and the imminent threat of terrorist attacks in Israel.

Israel respects the principles of humanitarian international law, and is doing
its utmost to facilitate humanitarian assistance, the transfer of medicine and
medical equipment, including medicine from Arab countries with which Israel
has no diplomatic relations. Unfortunately, the Palestinians have exploited
ambulances for use in hostilities, and by doing so, flagrantly violate
international law.

Israel reiterates that it will not cooperate with the implementation of the
operative clauses of this one-sided resolution of the UN Commission on
Human Rights of October 19, 2000 and the ECOSOC resolution of November
22, 2000. These resolutions were supported by a coalition of Arab and non-
aligned states, conflicting with the positions of western countries known for
their respect of human rights.

Thu Nov 30,2000 -- Palestinian supporters have introduced a resolution in t he
Security Council calling for 2,000 UN observers to protect civilians in the
West Bank and Gaza Strip, an indication that the measure is gaining
support in the 15-member body. The draft was circulated on Wednesday by
Mali, representing the council's five Non-aligned Movement members, despite
strong objections by Israel and the United States.

Palestinian envoys had been uncertain whether the resolution on unarmed
military observers would get enough support even to be put to a vote. But
they appeared confident that they had the backing of at least nine council
members, the minimum needed for a formal meeting. No date was set for
such a meeting, with United States, France, Britain, the Netherlands and
Canada having said they could not vote for a force without Israel's consent .

Thu Nov 30,2000 -- French President Jacques Chirac on Thursday tried to
calm fears of a rift between France and Germany over the two countries'
voting rights in European Union institutions. "When the time comes, this
question will not pose a problem between the two countries," Chirac told a
press conference during a brief stop in Portugal for talks with Prime Minis ter
Antonio Guterres. The question of voting rights based on relative sizes "is not
the real issue," he said.

He added that the issue of voting rights was likely to be addressed on the
final day of the upcoming EU summit, which is set to take place from
December 7 to 9 in the French Riviera city of Nice. "The real dividing line in
today's Europe is between those countries which have a deeply rooted

Jagland is one of the members of the international fact-finding committee t hat

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak is reportedly trying to set up a summit

Yasser Arafat. The two would meet in Amman or Cairo, Yediot Aharonot

Barak Requests Help From U.S. to Reach Agreement

Prime Minister Ehud Barak notified the United States government that he still
wants to reach a peace agreement with the Palestinians, despite the coming
elections. Barak sent an emissary, MK Yossi Beilin, to the U.S. on
Wednesday night to relay the message. Beilin is scheduled to meet U.S.
Security Advisor Sandy Berger. Barak emphasized the necessity for a
"window of time," in the negotiations with the Palestinians. However, many
top security advisors feel that negotiations are not an option considering the
current situation in the territories.

Senior Israeli sources told their American counterparts that Israel would do
its utmost to reach an all encompassing agreement. The negotiations would
be directly with the Palestinians and the U.S. would only need to intervene in
the final stages of the agreement to "close the deal." However, Barak does
not mean to reach a final agreement, but is instead hoping for a long term
interim agreement, according to senior Israeli sources. Ha'aretz

The Palestinian Authority said this morning that it has apprehended a
Palestinian they accuse of killing Ibrahim Bani Odeh in Nablus on November

Scientists Say Anti-Ebola Vaccine Works on Monkeys

A new vaccine that protects monkeys against the deadly Ebola virus could
lead to the development of a similar one for humans, scientists said on
Wednesday. Ebola is a terrifying disease that causes high fever, massive
internal bleeding and death usually within seven to 21 days of infection. It
strikes quickly and unexpectedly and kills 90 percent of its victims.
Hundreds of people have died in recent outbreaks. A team of scientists, led
by researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States,
has successfully vaccinated four monkeys against what would be a lethal
dose of the virus. Reuters

U.S. Supreme Court May Decide Election

When the U.S. Supreme Court hears historic arguments on Friday in the
disputed presidential election, neither Republican George W. Bush nor
Democrat Al Gore plan to be there, but their political fates could hang in the
balance. While the nine members of the nation"s top judicial body will not
decide whether the Bush or Gore won the Nov. 7 election, their eventual
ruling on aspects of Florida"s contested vote could determine the outcome.

The Supreme Court has never before heard a case directly affecting an
unresolved presidential election, legal experts said. At a 90-minute special
session that begins at 10 a.m. (1500 GMT), the justices will consider
whether the Florida Supreme Court overstepped its authority by extending
the deadline for certifying the election results and by ordering that hand
recounted ballots be included in the final tally. Bush"s lawyers planned to
attack the ruling by arguing the Florida Supreme Court violated federal law
and the U.S. Constitution by changing the rules after the election was over.

Iraq Says In Strategic Partnership With India

Iraq said on Wednesday its ties with India had turned the corner and the two
nations were set on a long-term strategic partnership. Vice-President Taha
Yassin Ramadan, the highest ranking Iraqi official to visit New Delhi in 25
years, said the two countries had agreed to boost ties in all sectors,
including oil that had been affected by 10-year-old U.N. sanctions imposed
on Iraq. "I call this visit a true turning point in our relations. We are
establishing long-term strategic relations and not just related to oil," he told a
news conference after a round of meetings with Indian leaders. The two
countries reached an agreement on a wheat-for-oil deal that will go to the
U.N. sanctions committee for approval, an Indian foreign ministry spokesman
said. Under the counter-trade deal, India will export wheat to Iraq in
exchange for Iraqi crude oil and petroleum products, he said. He gave no
details about the deal Reuters

Subject: [bprlist] Re: Christmas free, Christmas.
From: Pam Baker
Date: Thu, 30 Nov 2000 19:56:47 -0500

Thank you for your scripturally based comments. You are right on,
in my opinion. We thank the Lord every day for the gift of salvation
and, despite the fact that December 25 may have commemorated to some
pagan diety in days past, we count that day special because of our
reverence for Him, not the day. Praise the Lord!

'Twas the night before Christmas and into the town
Came a husband and wife of little reknown.
They came for the taxing and logding they sought
But room at the Inn just couldn't be bought.
The wife, 'though quite tired, knew she would be blessed
For soon Baby Jesus would feed at her breast,
So when room was found, in a stable's soft hay,
She gratefully rested to wait the Lord's day.

That night came a light, over meadows it spread,
The shepherds who saw it were filled with great dread,
But an angel of God said: "There's nothing to fear.
Be joyful, your Savior, the Christ child is here!"
The shepherds went searching and, as had been said,
They found the Lord sleeping, a manger His bed.
With that they rejoiced, as we all should, too.
Our Savior's alive! God' promise is true!

God Bless you. Charlie Baker.

P.S. This is similar to the big todo about the commandment given to the
Israelites re. keeping the seventh day holy to God. As Christians we
are to keep EVERY day holy to the Lord, not just one day a week!
Praise the Lord!

Here are a few Bible Codes items:

1. Someone is purported to have found the location of the Ark of the
Covenant through a Bible Code found in the OT that was later "confirmed" by
the same code in the NT. The location is somewhere in Egypt. The man who
found the code (Barry Roffmann) briefed the Egyptian government, the
Vatican and a code institution last year on his findings. He has a book
awaiting publication which explains the whole process.

2. Codes pertaining to WWII have been found in Genesis reading "Axis
Powers"' "They Did Not Prevail"; "Year 5705" etc. It can be seen at
http://www.thebiblecodes.com/news/index.htm

3. Codes relating to Ariel Sharon's visit to the Temple Mount reading "From

and can be seen at the same website.
