Good Morning, Dear Ones:
The following is for your Sunday reading, and thinking about. Luv
Ya! God Bless. Dad/Opa X X X

Psalm 11:4

The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORDīS throne is in heaven:
his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.

I have no problem with understanding ‘his eyes behold…the children of
menī. I think we are all aware His eyes do that. But I could not
understand, ‘his eyelids try the children of menī, until early this
morning. In a half-awake state, in the dark, with my eyes closed, I
became aware of lights, car lights I think, outside my bedroom window.
The thought came to me - we know that we, as Christians, are to have the
‘light of the Lordī shining in us and it could be that it is by the
brightness of that light his eyelids try us. Just a thought! If there
is no light, He will not be aware that we are, spiritually. His eyes
will behold us, physically, but His eyes behold everything, physically.
It is with His eyelids that He will determine whether or not the
children of men are anything more than physical. If we have spiritual
light in us, His eyelids will detect it and try, or test, the brightness
of it. Praise the Lord!

Pam,

Excellent observation. Thank you for sharing it. That's a great word picture to help others understand the concept of "his eyelids try the children of men." I had never thought of it in quite that way before.

A further observation is that the world is, spiritually, in darkness. However, the eyelids of God, see all the specks of light in that darkness and, when the time is right, they will be caught up with the dead
in Christ. Praise the Lord!

God Bless you. Charlie Baker - Pam's dad.

Preparation for war on Northern border underplayed in Israel

Aaron Lerner Date: 3 February 2001

Ha'aretz correspondent Amos Harel reported in the 2 February issue
(for some reason not translated into English) that the Hezbollah has
deployed along the entire Lebanon-Israel border.

A senior officer in the IDF Northern Command border told Harel on
Thursday that Hezbollah forces have placed its Katyusha launchers,
including long range rockets, in the area that they have occupied
since Prime Minister Ehud Barak pulled out of Lebanon.

The senior officer explained that Hezbollah has detailed plans to
attack the entire northern region and their rockets can reach, from
their position on the border, the heavily populated communities on the
northern outskirts of Haifa.

Hezbollah's unrestricted presence on the border allows them to launch
wide scale attacks against Israel "within minutes" if they decide to.

The Northern Command notes that the Lebanon government has declined to
effectively act to influence the situation on the border with only the
minimum of presence there. Hezbollah control is so great that even
senior Lebanese officers are not able to visit the area without
permission from Hebzbollah.

For some reason this story, which has both news value on its own and
also as it reflects on the single "achievement" Barak's campaign has
focused on (withdrawal from Lebanon), has received next to no coverage
in the Israeli media.

Subject: Indian village where the Earth tore open

[Note paragraphs 10 and 11 where there is mention of salt water oozing
out of the fissures in the ground - Hal]

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 03 2001

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0,,3-78182,00.html

Indian village where the Earth tore open

BY night, Dhori is an apocalyptic sight. The tiny village at the
epicentre of the earthquake that tore across India eight days ago, is
deserted save for an orchestra of howling dogs.

Some buildings have been razed, others bear cracks wide enough for a
man to step through; most seem to be a bulging, mis-shapen mess of
semi-vertical rubble held together by nothing but their paint.

Dhori is one of a cluster of villages surrounding the epicentre. More
than 30,000 died in the quake that left half a million homeless.
Marked on few maps and known only to those living in the immediate
area, the tiny village lies 17 miles northeast of Bhuj on the edge of
the desolate Rann of Kachchh, a vast expanse of salty marshland
bordering Pakistan.

Eight people out of the population of 2,000 Hindus and Muslims died
here and barely a single building escaped untouched. Not a soul now
remains after the hours of darkness within the town, yet no one has
left =97 they are all living out in the fields on the edge of town, too
scared to risk coming near the fragile buildings by night.

Behind the village council headquarters lies a small temple to the
Hindu god Shiva. Here blocks of masonry have fallen across the path,
blocking the entrance to the shrine inside which there is still a tin
of clarified butter and incense before the statue of a five-headed
cobra. Around the building lie devastated shops and homes, some with
padlocks on doors below roofs which no longer exist. The village well
is covered with rubble.

Inside one house spools of cotton lie abandoned on the floor and the
calendar has not moved since January 24, two days before the tremor.

Then, just as it appears that all have fled, the shapes of three
cloaked figures emerge from the darkness, huddled around the embers of
a tiny fire in the courtyard of the shrine to the Hindu gods Ram and
Shiva that it is their job to protect. Here, beneath a solid banyan
tree that appears to be the only upright fixture they trust,
temple-keepers Hari Puri Gosai, 48, and Lakshmi Giri, 70, shiver as
they recall the moment just before 9am on January 26 when the earth
beneath them threw them off their feet.

"There was a growling noise and then the ground began to move
incredibly, I just kept saying, =91Ram, Ram, Ram=92 and everything kept
falling around me," said Mrs Giri.

"We have stayed here because we had to, but everyone else has gone to
the fields and they stay there because it is safe. We have food
because trucks went to Bhuj to collect it, and the doctors have now
been here."

Mr Gosai=92s friend Jai Ram Kapre, 38, said no cracks had appeared in
the ground within the village itself, but that barely a mile away salt
water had erupted from the ground.

"Six months back salt water started oozing out of the ground in the
same place, which is a desert area. Someone from the government came
to check it out and they did all sorts of tests, but they went away
and they never told us anything. We don=92t know about such things," he
said.

After insisting that they would stay to rebuild the village, Mr Gosai
wandered back to where the other 21 members of his family now stay,
sleeping on charpoys.

It is the Muslim graveyard. They are Hindus. No one cares. "This is a
place for the dead. Now the living have taken shelter here. It is
where we feel safe," he said.

Government officials, voluntary organisations and charities are now
fanning out into the countryside to assess the extent of the damage
and needs. Gujarat=92s roads are also laden with convoys of trucks.

But there is waste and confusion: with surplus food, water and clothes
piling up at the roadsides in some towns, while it has only just
started reaching remote villages.

Survivors have begun lodging complaints against builders, architects
and planners of collapsed buildings, accusing them of substandard
work.

Subject: [bprlist] Astrologer was spot on with quake prediction
From: <owner-bpr@philologos.org>

http://www.timesofindia.com/today/02mahm17.htm

January 2, 2001

Astrologer was spot on with quake prediction

AHMEDABAD: It is a case of your word against mine. While science still
grapples with the unknown, with seismologists nonchalantly declaring
quakes as unpredictable, it is time for astrologers to say , "We had
told you so."

The latest doing the rounds is Liliya (Amreli)-based astrologer
Jaiprakash Madhak's predictions of a "strong possibility of a quake on
January 26" that appeared in the local eveninger Aaj Kaal from Rajkot
on January 13, two weeks before the quake. The headline also declares
"The earth will shake up on January 26th".

According to Madhak, "Thanks to the planetary alignment between
Saturn, Mars and Pluto which will occur on February 3, there will be a
massive earthquake eight days prior to it, which happens to be January
26." He has also referred to rail collision and other disasters that
were likely to happen in his predictions.

Back home, the local edition of Sandesh dated December 31, 2000
featured a similar prediction from Gandhinagar-based Ambaram Patel.
According to him, magnetic tremors of weak planets and lunar eclipses,
would cause a lot of seismic activity in January and February, 2001
(especially between January 5 to 25th, and also between February 1st
and 19th) at Saurashtra-Madhya Pradesh and other regions.

Media-savvy astrologer columnist, Bejan Daruwalla also claims to have
made the predictions on the Times internet site as early as April
2000. "Earthquakes, air accidents, shakeups in the stockmarkets,
ecological disaters, oil spills, currency devaluation, nuclear gas
leakages, skirmishes and battles, fall of national leaders, deaths of
major artists, musicians and film giants," the grim list handed out by
Daruwalla is pretty extensive.

Remarking that it was a personal loss, Daruwalla, born in Bharuch but
who grew up in Ahmedabad, said that, "For once, I wish I am wrong, but
it is a difficult situation till February 25." The culprit, according
to Daruwalla, is Saturn, the planet of sorrow and suffering, and the
common factor in all the four conjunctions (Jupiter-Saturn,
Mars-saturn, Venus-saturn and Sun-Saturn.) that play a role in this
catastrophe.

IT guys, beware. If you go by Daruwalla's prediction that, "The
special overkill of Uranus and Neptune would be in the fields of
computers, electronic gizmos, hackers, computer-based thefts and major
frauds."

It now seems that The Astrological Magazine, published from Bangalore,
had said in its January 2000 issue in an annual feature on World
Trends and Tensions in 2000-2001 that "Both the periods when Jupiter
changes from direct to retrogade and vice-versa, (October 3, 2000 and
January 25, 2001) will affect weather patterns around the globe,"
adding that "At least two major earthquakes, one along the region of
north-east India and adjoining Afghanistan cannot be ruled out this
time."

In Ahmedabad, meantime tarot card readers like Gooli Daruwalla are
flooded with calls by, "People wanting to know if their lockers were
safe in the Canara Bank building that crashed near Paldi. A mother
wanted to know if her son could be recovered from under the rubble."
While for once, Gooli is not too happy doing these tarot card
readings, she feels "it is her way of reaching out that much-needed
emotional assuaging for quake-affected residents."

ews&th esubsection=general - GM bug 'could end all life'

03.02.2001

All life on Earth could be destroyed by genetically modified bacteria,
a scientist has told the Royal Commission on Genetic Modification.

Four scientists gave evidence for the Green Party at the hearing this
week via video link from the United States.

Soil ecologist Elaine Ingham spoke about a plant-killing GM bacteria
that her Oregon State University research team prevented from being
released into the environment.

Dr Ingham said the alcohol-producing bacteria had been approved for
field trials when her team discovered its lethal effects.

She believed the widespread plant deaths caused by the bacteria would
in turn affect all life on Earth.

The GM klebsiella planticola produced alcohol from post-harvest crop
residue. The leftover organic sludge, containing the bacteria, would
be returned to fields as fertiliser.

Dr Ingham said she had independently tested the bacteria on plants,
which the regulatory authority had failed to do.

"After seven days, all wheat plants turned into slime."

This example showed the need for better risk assessment of ecological
impact.

Green Party co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons said the risks of GM
organisms to the environment were currently unknown. Outdoor field
trials of GM crops should never be allowed under these circumstances.

Earthquake Survivors Turn to Folklore to Find Explanation for Tragedy

ANJAR, India (AP) - A shrine for two accursed medieval lovers is
drawing throngs of devotees convinced that an explanation for India's
devastating earthquake last week lies in the unfortunate couple's
Romeo and Juliet tale.

A television serial of the popular story of Jassal and Toral is being
broadcast in Gujarat state, and the tale has assumed a divine credence
among many Indians since the Jan. 26 earthquake.

The shrine, devastated along with the rest of Anjar, contains the
tomblike mausoleums of the two young lovers. They lie side by side,
separated by a one-foot gap. According to legend, the tombs have been
sliding toward each other for centuries. The prediction is for the
world to end when they finally meet.

No one has said whether they believe the two tombs came together. But
the devastation in Gujarat state was a sign of things to come, said
Khimdas Maharaj, a priest who traveled some 200 miles from Surat to
the shrine.

"It was not doomsday but a notice from God that he can snuff out the
world in a second if he wants," the black-bearded Maharaj told people
gathered around him. His audience nodded in agreement.

According to legend, Jassal and Toral worked in the court of Indra,
the king of the gods, who rules heaven. Jassal, a man, was an
unimportant minion; Toral, a woman, was a dancer. Indra cursed them to
live on Earth after Toral was late for a performance because of a
romantic rendezvous with Jassal.

Jassal was reincarnated as a 16th-century tyrant prince while Toral
was turned into a tree, which was carved into a beautiful woman by a
carpenter and given life by his friend, a Brahmin. She met Jassal
again by chance and sought to reform him.

He did, and she left. Jassal, heartbroken, gave up his life by going
into a meditational coma known as samadhi. Toral repented, returned
and managed to bring him back to life only long enough to marry him.
He went back into the samadhi and so did the grief-stricken Toral.

But the gods, unhappy with the marriage, cursed the couple, saying if
they ever met again the world would be destroyed.

The drama is supposed to have taken place at the site where the
shrine, one of Anjar's famed sights, is located. Locals say that when
the mausoleums were built, they were 10 feet apart.

"When relatives visited us from other places, we would take them to
Anjar to show them the shrine," said Manoj Asnani, a tailor from the
nearby village of Adipur who came to see if the lovers' tombs had
indeed joined.

Normally, 100 to 200 people visit the shrine each day, said the owner
of a shop across the street. Since the quake, 500 to 600 have come
daily.

But Jassal's tomb, covered in red embroidered cloth, and Toral's, in
green silk, are now buried under brick and mortar. Tilting atop the
heap is the shrine's steeple, its pastel green and pink paint still
fresh. The statues of Toral, dressed in bridal finery, and Jassal, are
nowhere to be seen. Neither is the image of Toral's horse.

The town's residents believe the tombs are 500 years old, but the
shrine that collapsed was a recent structure, no more than 40 years
old.

The devotees who peered anxiously through the cracks of the rubble are
not sure if the tombs had joined just before the earthquake.

"How do we know which came first? But you must remember that this is
what our saints have said would happen - and it did happen," said
Deojibhai Becharbhai, 50, wiping away a tear.

CONFERENCE UPDATE: Our redemption prophecy conference ended on Erev
Shabbat. I would like to thank all who attended and those who were not
able but offered their prayers for us. The conference was a tremendous
blessing and, I believe, a tremendous success. I am just now starting
to sort it all out. It is my prayer that eyes were opened and hearts
were touched so that G-d's vessels may work together as He has so
planned. May this only be the beginning. Tapes from the conference

:: ELECTIONS TO BE HELD TUESDAY: the election for Prime Minister will
be Tuesday, February 6th. A total of 4,094,000 Israelis will be
eligible to vote in the election, an increase of about 5% over the
number of eligible voters in the 1999 elections. Arab voters
constitute 12.3% of the eligible voters, and immigrants since 1990
constitute 18.3% (771,000 voters). Current Prime Minister Ehud Barak
is running against Likud party leader Ariel Sharon.

Barak, who has been trailing in the polls from almost the beginning,
has tried several ploys in an attempt to shift votes his way, among
them:

1.) The 26 January edition of the weekly regional AL HASHARON reports
that when Barak came to visit the community center in the low income
Shabib neighborhood in Herzliya on 23 January, Herzliya (Meretz) Mayor
Yael Garman arranged to bus in third graders from the wealthy Nveh
Amirim from across town for the photo opportunity. According to AL
HASHARON, the kids waited all morning for the photo opportunity with
the Prime Minister in which they participated in a democracy class".
Residents of the Shabib neighborhood expressed dismay that their
children were not deemed worthy to meet Barak. "What, are we dogs?"
asked one resident. The Mayor's office explained that the children
from the wealthy neighborhood were brought in since they were
scheduled to have a democracy lesson at that time while there was no
democracy class scheduled then for the kids in the Shabib neighborhood
school.

2.) The Barak team sent out 600,000 envelopes very similar to those in
which emergency military orders are usually sent; before the
recipients could recover from the shock at ostensibly being "called
up" for unlimited army service, they opened the envelope to find
campaign literature explaining that Sharon's election would increase
the chances of war - and their reception of emergency orders. However,
ARUTZ-7 has learned that secret army databases were apparently used
for the mailing; Capt. (res.) Ya'ir Perchik said that his "orders"
were sent to a secondary address that he supplied only to the army.
Late this afternoon, Elections Committee Chairman Hon. Mishael Heshin
issued a restraining order forbidding One Israel to continue sending
the mock "orders."

To review: On November 28, 2000, the Knesset voted to accept the
first reading of a bill to dissolve itself, and on Dec. 10, Prime
Minister Barak submitted his resignation to President Katzav. Nine
days later, the Knesset voted in favor of an amendment to the Basic
Law allowing a non-MK [such as Binyamin Netanyahu] to run in a special
election for prime minister, and the Knesset voted not to dissolve
itself. This meant that an election only for Prime Minister, and not
for the entire Knesset, would be held. Binyamin Netanyahu, who had
been in favor of general elections, therefore announced that he would
not stand for election. The election will be held this Tuesday, with a
run-off scheduled, if necessary, for two weeks later, Feb. 20. In
light of the Supreme Court's decision Thursday, however - which
rejected demands that blank ballots be counted as valid votes - no
run-off will be necessary, as the situation in which one candidate
does not receive 50% of the valid votes cast cannot arise. Within 45
days of the publication of the election results, the Prime
Minister-elect must present his government and basic policy guidelines
before the Knesset; if he does not do so, another election must be
held. ............................

:: MORE MURDERS: Dr. Shmuel Gillis, 42 years old, father of five and
an officer in the Israeli army, was murdered Thursday night in a
terrorist attack near the El Arub refugee camp. The refugee camp is
under Israeli security control, Oslo designation "B". Dr. Gillis was
traveling from Jerusalem to his home in Karmei Tzur when his car was
shot at by a passing vehicle.

A 23-year-old resident of Afula, Lior Atiya, was murdered by
Palestinian terrorists in Jenin Thursday afternoon. He had come with
an Israeli-Arab friend to the PA/PLO [PLO-administered 'Palestinian
Authority'] city of Jenin, and gunmen shot him several times in the
chest and neck while he was standing in a Jenin garage.

Fifty-five year old Arieh Hershkovitz, a father of four and
grandfather of four from the settlement of Ofra in Samaria, died in a
hail of bullets fired from a passing vehicle as he drove on the
highway between the Rama junction and Adam late Monday afternoon. A
passenger in the vehicle escaped without injury.

Meanwhile, the Israel Security Agency (ISA) and IDF forces in Judea
and Samaria have recently uncovered and arrested a number of
terrorists, who are suspected of perpetrating many shootings that have
killed and wounded Israeli soldiers and civilians. Six members of the
terror cell are currently being interrogated by the Israel Security
Agency. An additional terrorist, Ahmed Gandor, was killed this week in
Ram'Allah, and according to the Palestinians he died as a result of a
discharged bullet. The cell belongs to Force 17, and its members are
suspected of perpetrating shooting attacks in the Ram'Allah area and
in the Samaria area. [IMRA: The press release neglects to mention that
Force 17 is Arafat's top military force, CIA trained, with the highest
level of discipline of all the Palestinian forces.]
............................

:: IDF PREDICTING UPSURGE OF VIOLENCE IN NEAR FUTURE: The Israel
Defense Force [IDF] is predicting a serious escalation of violence in
the territories in the near future. Though no one says so explicitly,
"the near future" apparently means after the election for prime
minister. Already, there has been a sharp rise in the number of
shooting and bombing incidents in the Gaza Strip. Yesterday for the
first time, a mortar shell was fired at a Gaza settlement. The shell
caused no injuries in Netzarim but damaged a house. Chief of Staff
Lieutenant-General Shaul Mofaz, speaking to soldiers near Bethlehem
Tuesday, said he expects some escalation in the near future.
............................

:: GOVERNMENT ADMITS PLO HEAVILY ARMED: For the first time, the
government of Israel has officially stated that the Palestinian
arsenal includes anti-aircraft missiles and cannons. Dr. Aaron Lerner
of IMRA <http://www.imra.org.il> notes that paragraph 141 of the
Israeli report submitted to the Mitchell Committee
<http://www.mfa.gov.il/mfa/go.asp?MFAH0jcb0> - charged with
investigating the violence of the past four months - states that
illegal weapons held by Palestinian Police, militia and other elements
include machine guns; rocket-propelled grenades; anti-tank missiles;
shoulder launched anti-aircraft missiles, cannons and machine guns;
and more. Lerner notes that the report was not released to the Israeli
public until Thursday morning when, in reaction to the placement of
the Palestinian report to the Mitchell Committee on the PA/PLO's Web
site <http://www.mena.gov.ps/aggression/final%20report.htm>, the
Government of Israel also placed its report on the Foreign Ministry
website.

The Israeli document, which was submitted a month ago, is emphatic
that the Palestinian violence was not a reaction to Ariel Sharon's
visit to the Temple Mount: "The groundwork for the violence had been
laid long before this. Stung by the widespread appreciation in the
international community that Palestinian inflexibility was responsible
for the failure of the Camp David Summit, counseled not to declare a
Palestinian state unilaterally on 13 September 2000 as had been
planned, the Palestinian leadership looked to violence to 'create new
facts on the ground...'" The document notes, in paragraph 173, that
PA/PLO Security Chief Jibril Rajoub had specifically told Foreign
Minister Ben-Ami that Sharon's visit to the Mount would pose no
problem. ............................

:: NO TALKS BEFORE ELECTIONS: Barak put an end to speculation that he
might conduct one last pre-election summit meeting with Yasser Arafat,
as his aides announced Thursday afternoon that such a meeting was now
out of the question. Several reasons were given: the continued
Palestinian violence; the murder of Lior Atiya; the imminent election;
and the lack of a clear purpose for the meeting. Despite many recent
reports in Israel, including by Barak himself, that an agreement was
"within reach", PA/PLO officials continued to strenuously deny this
week that a Palestinian-Israeli deal was imminent or near.

ARUTZ-7 correspondent Haggai Huberman reports on additional Israeli
concessions made in Taba last week: Barak's negotiators agreed to
compensate the Arab refugees not only for their loss of property, but
also for what was termed "the years of suffering of the Palestinian
refugees." The Barak team also agreed to cede Beit El and Ofrah to the
Palestinians, contrary to Barak's specific promises of last year.
Another aspect of the Taba talks involves the construction of a new
Palestinian city in the sands of Halutza, southeast of Gaza. MA'ARIV
reported Wednesday that the Palestinians had agreed that refugees
would only be allowed into the Palestinian state-to-be-created, and
that Israel would help build them a new city or two in Halutza. Saeb
Erekat of the Palestinian negotiating team denied the reports,
however, and said that the PA/PLO had rejected all Israeli plans
regarding Halutza. ............................

:: IRAN, IRAQ AID PALESTINIANS: Maj.-Gen. Amos Malka Director of
Military Intelligence told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense
Committee on Tuesday that Iran has recently increased its assistance
to Palestinian terrorist organizations operating in Yesha [Judea,
Samaria, and Gaza], HA=92 ARETZ reported. Iran sends aid, via
Hizb'Allah, consisting of both training and funding. Iran has also
increased aid to Hizb'Allah directly and has recently sent the
organization weapons, including long-range Katyusha missiles capable
of reaching deep inside Israel. According to Malka, there is a
consensus regarding the necessity of destroying Israel among all of
Iran=92s political factions. Iran opposes negotiations between Israel
and the Palestinians, he noted, and urged the start of a new wave of
violence before the current violence broke out in September. Malka
added that Iran is investing tremendous efforts in enhancing relations
with the Arab world and in the continued development of its
nonconventional weapons capacity.

In the past four months of violence between Israelis and Palestinians
in Yesha, a representative of the Iraqi president has appeared on the
doorstep of the family of every Arab who has been killed -- more than
340 boys and men -- bearing a $10,000 check. In recent days, the Iraqi
government also has begun parceling out checks to an estimated 3,000
Palestinians wounded in the fighting: $1,000 for serious injuries,
$500 for lesser wounds. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has enhanced
Hussein's reentry into the Middle East fold. Although most Arab
leaders joined the military alliance that evicted Iraq from Kuwait in
1991, they are now willing to increase their ties to Iraq after a
decade of isolation. Even Syria, a longtime Iraqi foe, has begun to
thaw relations. Beyond the Arab world, other countries -- including
France, Russia and Turkey -- have become increasingly vocal in calls
to reintegrate Iraq into the global community.
............................

:: SADDAM AND THE BOMB? SADDAM HUSSEIN has two fully operational
nuclear bombs and is working to construct others, an Iraqi defector
has told THE TELEGRAPH. The defector, a military engineer who fled
Iraq a year after United Nations arms inspectors left the country,
says that he helped to oversee the completion of the weapons program.
He is currently in hiding in Europe. International nuclear officials
are investigating his evidence. An extremely knowledgeable US expert
on nuclear arms, including Iraq's weapons programs, recently told IRAQ
NEWS that Iraq's nuclear bomb design is workable, and the Iraqis know
it. They would not have to test it.

In a related story Turkish officials have announced that "large
quantities" of weapons and ammunition have been seized from an oil
truck entering the country from northern Iraq. The vehicle was found
to be carrying various weapons, including Uzi machine guns and
Kalashnikov rifles. ............................

:: HIZA'ALLAH PREPARING FOR WAR IN THE NORTH: HA'ARETZ correspondent
Amos Harel reported in the 2 February issue (for some reason not
translated into English) that the Hizb'Allah has deployed along the
entire Lebanon-Israel border. A senior officer in the IDF Northern
Command border told Harel on Thursday that Hizb'Allah forces have
placed its Katyusha launchers, including long range rockets, in the
area that they have occupied since Barak pulled out of Lebanon. The
senior officer explained that Hizb'Allah has detailed plans to attack
the entire northern region and their rockets can reach, from their
position on the border, the heavily populated communities on the
northern outskirts of Haifa. Hizb'Allah's unrestricted presence on the
border allows them to launch wide scale attacks against Israel "within
minutes" if they decide to. The Northern Command notes that the
Lebanon government has declined to effectively act to influence the
situation on the border with only the minimum of presence there.
Hizb'Allah control is so great that even senior Lebanese officers are
not able to visit the area without permission from Hizb'Allah.

Meanwhile, security officials in Turkey have warned that Hizb'Allah
retains an "astonishing" intelligence capability, with "hands and
ears" in the lower and middle levels of the state bureaucracy. They
also note that Hizb'Allah has no problem in procuring arms, as large
quantities of weapons can be obtained at low prices from Russia and
northern Iraq.

In another report, according to the IDF, Hizb'Allah recently began
operating a Palestinian terrorist cell in the Gaza Strip, HA=92ARETZ
reported. The IDF suspects that the cell has been involved in shooting
attacks and bombings in the Netzarim area, and has fired anti-tank
weapons. Members of the new cell are apparently linked to the Islamic
Jihad organization, which enjoys close ties with Hizb'Allah and their
joint patron, Iran. Israel security sources believe that the
Gaza-based terrorists receive funds and instructions from Hizb'Allah,
and some may have also trained in Lebanon. IDF sources say that the
Hizb'Allah has recently stepped up its involvement in Yesha =97-
particularly since Israel=92s withdrawal from Lebanon last May.
Hizb'Allah=92s popularity has been on the rise in the territories and
its yellow flag has been present at Palestinian demonstrations.

:: SAFETY EQUIPMENT DONATED TO YESHA: A New York State Assemblyman
will deliver the last of $120,000 worth of bulletproof vests and
helmets to the Security Coordinator of Gush Etzion tomorrow morning.
The equipment will be used to help protect teachers and medics living
in embattled Judea and Samaria communities; several Yesha teachers
have been killed in terrorist attacks in recent months as they
traveled to and from school. NY Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who organized
the drive, delivered the state-of-the-art equipment Wednesday. Among
the contributors was New York Governor George Pataki.
............................

:: YESHA HIGHWAYS: The Yesha Rabbis Council called on Chief of Staff
Lt.-Gen. Sha'ul Mofaz to forbid Palestinian traffic throughout Yesha,
in order to prevent further murders of Jews. Council head Rabbi Zalman
Melamed said that the Chief of Staff and his Deputy, Maj.-Gen. Moshe
Yaalon, must resign if the government does not allow them to carry out
this measure - "for if not, they will bear the responsibility for the
continued murders on the highways."

Meanwhile, the IDF will soon begin distributing maps to Yesha
residents marking all Yesha roads in three categories: a) Roads closed
to Jews due to danger of terror attacks, b) Roads officially open, but
which require Jews to have special security coordination with the IDF
before travelling on them, and c) Roads which are freely open to Jews.

:: EU FUNDING PEACE CAMPAIGN INSIDE ISRAEL: IMRA learned Monday that
the European Union (EU) is providing financial support for Peace Now
and other organizations to promote support for the "peace process"
within the Israeli public. While the EU presents the programs as
"People to People" in order to "improve mutual understanding between
the people of the Middle East" funding is not limited to the
sponsorship of programs in which Israelis and Arabs meet under various
settings (e.g. camps, seminars, etc.). Instead the EU funds also go
towards funding projects to convince Israelis to support the "peace
process" - a specific political orientation (and hence constellation
of political parties and candidates). David Kriss, Press & Information
Officer at the European Union's Delegation to the State of Israel sent
a letter to IMRA listing some of the recipients, while others were not
disclosed due to "reasons of confidentiality". Those listed include:
West-Eastern Divan Workshop & Orchestra, Germany [The West-Eastern
Workshop for Orchestra and Chamber Music Weimar 2000], Machon Mifne,
Religious Women for Peace, Israel [Peace and democracy programs for
Religious and Traditional Communities in Israel], Ya'ari Association
[Youth Institute], Peace Now, Israel [Israeli-Palestinian Peace
Campaign], European Center for Common Ground [Promoting Peace Through
the Media in the Middle East], Foundation for Middle East Peace
[Palestinian refugees: Official Arab and Israeli views of the
modalities for a final settlement]. ............................

:: US AND ISRAEL TO HOLD MISSILE DRILLS; NATIONAL GUARD SENT TO GULF:
Starting next week, the US and Israel will conduct a two week military
drill to test Israeli preparedness for the possibility of ballistic
missile attacks. Preparing for the joint exercise, the US army is
moving Patriot anti-missile systems and 400 soldiers to Israel from
Germany. The exercise, scheduled for February 8th through February
23rd, will test the interoperability level of Patriot systems operated
by the two armies.

In another development, the US is sending National Guard units to
protect Arab allies in the Gulf. Officials said this is the first time
National Guard units will be deployed in the region. Over the last
decade, individual National Guard members have been sent to bolster US
Army troops. The first National Guard unit to have been deployed was
that from Alabama 1st Battalion, 203rd Air Defense Artillery. The
Patriot anti-aircraft battery with the unit was deployed earlier this
month with soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery,
35th ADA Brigade from Fort Bliss, Texas. The unit consists of 80
soldiers. They are joining a rotation of nine air defense battalions
in the Gulf, a development which began a decade ago amid the 1991 war
against Iraq. ............................

:: US JEWISH LEADERS WANT DISTANCED FROM JERUSALEM: The 54-member
Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations has
approved a new policy forbidding its chairman from speaking publicly
unless he has a clear mandate from member organizations. The move
comes in response to a speech earlier this month by Chairman Ronald
Lauder at the huge January 8 rally in support for Jerusalem as the
"eternal and undivided capital" of Israel. Lauder, who identified
himself at the rally as "an individual Jew," nevertheless was
described in media reports as the Conference chairman [many of the
people at the rally hold positions in business, government and
religious organizations--ed]. With that, some critics within the
Conference said the organization had inserted itself in Israeli
domestic politics, even though the rally was clearly not a political
rally; rather a stance taken in support of being a Jew and honoring
G-d's commands. ............................

Subject: [bprlist] Battling Israel's "Silent Holocaust"
From: owner-bpr@philologos.org
Date: Sun, 04 Feb 2001 13:50:09 -0000

[Note: I read a comment in a book ("Answering Jewish Objections to
Jesus" by Michael Brown; see http://philologos.org/guide/books.htm
for the review) that said female soldiers in the Israeli army are
allowed two free abortions. That astounded me! This is not
something I think of when I hear the phrase "Holy Land." Perhaps I'm
somewhat naive. Anyway I wanted to verify Brown's statement,
although I never seriously doubted its validity based on the author's
meticulous research in the book, and thus I came across this article.
It is somewhat ironic to think that if the Jews are still waiting for
their Messiah, believing that he has not arrived in the person of
Yeshua (Jesus) or anyone for that matter, that if he were to be
conceived today in Israel that he would only have a 50 per cent
chance of being born (see article, where ratio of live births to
abortions is 1:1). If I was Jewish with messianic expectations, I
would have to wonder how many messiahs we have aborted. ]

Battling Israel's "Silent Holocaust"
04 June, 1999
By Patrick Goodenough
CNS Jerusalem Bureau Chief

http://www.tbhonline.com/cns/9906/990604battling_israels.htm

Jerusalem (CNS) - In a darkened chamber on Jerusalem's Mount Herzl, a
lone candle burns, reflected many thousands of times by strategically-
placed mirrors; year-round visitors stand in contemplation as one-by-
one the names of dead children are quietly recited over a speaker
system.

The chamber is a memorial in memory of the 1.5 million Jewish
children who perished at the hands of the Nazis.

Pro-life activists say at least an equal number of babies have been
aborted in Israel. They speak, though with caution, of the "silent
Holocaust."

Aware of the sensitivity involved, Ted Walker, national coordinator
of the Association for the Protection of the Unborn Child (Be'ad
Chaim in Hebrew), does not draw the comparison easily. But, he notes,
many Israelis do so themselves - unprompted - when faced with the
facts and figures of abortions in the country.

Israel has some of the most liberal abortion laws in the world.
Legislation passed in 1977 allows legal abortions for women under the
age of 17 or older than 40; for women whose pregnancy resulted from
rape, incest or "extramarital relations"; in cases with a high
probability of physical or mental defect; or where the mother's
physical or mental health is at risk.

A fifth category, which provided for abortion where "family or social
circumstances mitigate against birth of the child," was subsequently
repealed.

Thus almost any woman can qualify for a legal abortion - around 94
per cent of applications are approved annually. And if not, there are
plenty of illicit options available, Walker said during an interview
in his small central Jerusalem office.

Twelve hospitals and clinics in Israel carry out abortions after 23
weeks of pregnancy. Female soldiers are permitted two free abortions
each during their two-year army service. A soldier who opts to have
her child faces dishonorable discharge.

In a country of six million, between 15,000 and 17,000 legal
abortions are carried out each year. The figure of illegal abortions
is estimated at up to twice that number.

In fact, said Walker, the ratio of abortions to live births in Israel
now stands at 1:1.

And while this is happening, thousands of childless couples wait for
more than five years on waiting lists to adopt a child. Few babies
are put up for adoption. Walker said women have told his staff it
would be shameful for a Jewish mother to give up a child - yet see
abortion as an acceptable choice.

Be'ad Chaim was founded in 1988 to battle ignorance, provide
counseling, and save lives. It runs four pregnancy crisis centers
around the country, staffed by Israeli and foreign volunteers.

Walker, a native Californian who has made Jerusalem his home, leads
teams of workers onto Israel's streets, into shopping malls and bus
stations, handing out pamphlets in Hebrew, Arabic and Russian. He
says the response is often remarkable.

"We don't pursue people. We just give them information, and allow
their own consciences [to prompt them]. We've found a keen interest,
both from the secular and the religious.

"Most of those who have abortions are secular. They are taught in
school - have fun, don't get pregnant, but if you do, have an
abortion. Abortion services are widely advertised."

Walker says religious Jews are often confused. There are differing
rabbinical interpretations on the question of when a soul enters a
body. Some believe this occurs at conception, others, 40 days later,
others still only when the baby's head emerges during birth.

Although the law stipulates that a mother wanting an abortion must be
told the risks involved, "often we find that people have no idea what
it entails, or what the risks are."

Be'ad Chaim leaflets aim to do just that. Pictures and text explain
in detail how abortions are carried out. Side-effects for the mother
are also explained.

A life-size model of babies at various stages of development in the
womb is a particularly successful tool during street "outreaches."

One effective device used by Be'ad Chaim is a poster modeled on the
typical Israeli death notice. When an Israeli dies, distinctive,
black-bordered notices are displayed on community billboards
everywhere, giving the name and details and dates of the seven-day
mourning period.

The organization has printed and pasted up notices of this type,
which read: "We mourn the deaths of tens of thousands of children
murdered every year through abortion."

Back at the advice centers, staff don't only focus on mothers
grappling with a decision about having a child in often difficult
circumstances. They also provide care and counseling to those who
have had abortions, and now face physical, emotional, mental or
spiritual difficulties.

"Many women suffer from post-abortion syndrome. They need help, they
feel they need forgiveness," Walker explained.

One Israeli doctor who has taken a firm stand against abortion is
Michael Stark, who in 1983 accepted his position of director of the
Misgav Ladach Hospital in Jerusalem on condition the facility would
stop performing abortions. The administration accepted his terms.

"Once there is conception, it is a human being - a human being with
his rights," said Stark. "You can't take it out from the uterus just
because someone doesn't want it, his father or his mother, and you
can't take it out just because it is small and can't protect itself.
And therefore, at Misgav Ladach, we do not permit any doctors to do
abortions."

Jacob Neusner, a U.S. rabbi who teaches religion at the University of
South Florida, is one pro-lifer who does not shy away from drawing
parallels between Israeli abortions and the Holocaust.

"We Jews are experienced in suffering murder, and we preserve the
memory of the victims and their murderers," he wrote in a recent
article in Christianity Today magazine. "That is why we build museums.

"That is why I ask, how is mass abortion in the State of Israel \'85
not comparable to mass murder of Jewish children in German Europe?

"As the numbers mount up, when do considerations of volume enter in
and validate calling the annihilation of millions of lives 'a
Holocaust'?" Neusner asked.

"I think they do."

PM BARAK: AS PM, I BEAR OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR EVERYTHING THAT
OCCURS IN THE COUNTRY DURING MY TENURE IN OFFICE, INCLUDING THE EVENTS
IN WHICH 13 ARAB CITIZENS WERE KILLED.

(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser)
Jerusalem , February 04, 2001

[IMRA note: Ironically, at the very same cabinet meeting that police
preparations were discussed in order to prevent rioting Israeli Arabs
from stopping other Israeli Arabs from exercising their right to vote,
Prime Minister Barak undermines the position of the police by terming
the bloody and violent Israeli Arab October riots "illegal
demonstrations".]

Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ehud Barak, at the weekly Cabinet
meeting today (Sunday), 4.2.2001, commented on Israel Police
Inspector-General Shlomo Aharonishki's remarks regarding the police's
deployment in the Arab sector on election day.

Prime Minister Barak said that there is a certain link between the
Israeli Arab sector's sensitivity toward the elections and the events
of last October in which 13 Israeli Arabs and one Israeli Jew were
killed. "Any government that is formed after the elections will
certainly adopt the conclusions of the state commission of inquiry
that was established to investigate the clashes that occurred between
Israeli Arabs and the police. As prime minister, I bear overall
responsibility for everything that occurs in the country during my
tenure in office, including the events in which 13 Arab citizens were
killed. On behalf of the government and myself, I express deep sorrow
over the killing of the Arab citizens. No Israeli citizen should have
to be killed in any demonstration, even an illegal one," the Prime
Minister said.

Prime Minister Barak appealed to the bereaved families and said that
the Israeli government would do its utmost so that such events do not
recur. "It is very important," the Prime Minister added, "the
Israel's Arab citizens feel that the state belongs to everybody and
that their blood is as dear to us as that of any citizen."

Prime Minister Barak repeated his call to Israeli Jews and Arabs to
make every effort to restore the fabric of life that has been woven
between them and move it forward.

Hi,

This prophecy about Damascus has always been one I have looked at also. To my knowledge, it has not been fulfilled yet. Blessings,

Sky

As Lambert has pointed out, this prophesy has yet to be fulfilled. It is one of interest as we watch and read of war musings from Syria.

Subject: [bprlist] Could the Scientists Be Wrong on Madcow Disease?

Could the Scientists Be Wrong on Madcow Disease?
By Elizabeth Piper

http://dailynews.yahoo.com/htx/nm/20010201/sc/britain_causes_dc_1.html

SOMERSET, England (Reuters) - Mark Purdey still eats beef, even
``junk'' in pies and hamburgers, and he has no fear that he or his
wife or six children will be struck down by the deadly human form of
mad cow disease.

``It's an absolute myth,'' the 48-year-old organic farmer says,
banging his fist on a large wooden table to underline his argument
that much of the accepted logic on bovine spongiform encephalopathy,
or BSE, is wrong.

His story unfolds -- a 16-year campaign to explore the effect of
organophosphates, the chemicals he believes are behind the spread of
the brain-wasting disease in cattle and in people.

Purdey says we should distance ourselves from ``the men in bow-ties''
who have what he calls a monopoly on thought.

Forget the role of tainted animal feed in spreading BSE among cattle
or infected meat in passing the disease to humans as new variant
Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (vCJD).

Look instead at the use of systemic organophosphates, derived from
military nerve gas, which the UK agriculture ministry told farmers to
pour along the spine of their cattle in the early 1980s to kill a
parasite called the warble fly.

And those used in sprays used in Britain's countryside.

``I have been hammering the establishment theory, the so-called meat-
and-bone meal theory, since 1988 or 1989. Even then I had identified
that meat and bone meal had been sold all over the world,
particularly the Middle East,'' he says.

``If you're blaming this stuff and you're sending it all over the
world, why on earth aren't you getting more BSE?''

He agrees that other scientists would argue it has yet to appear
because of the long incubation period of disease, believed to be
caused by a mutated prion protein in the brain.

But Purdey argues there is little logic in the theory.

He also disputes the argument that BSE is passed to humans via
infected beef.

``If it was to do with eating beef we'd have lots of cases in towns,
where most burger bars are, but 60 percent of cases are in rural
areas,'' he said.

``Most victims live by fields, where crops are sprayed.''

Self-Taught Scientist

A self-taught scientist, Purdey says he acted first on ''intuition,''
refusing to treat his 60 cows with the organophosphate, called
phosmet, and going on to win a court battle with the agriculture
ministry to make his point.

When BSE was first detected in a British herd in 1986, he immediately
thought phosmet was the problem -- a theory which after years of
unpaid research has now won respect from senior scientists, public
figures and politicians.

``Like most things it was instinct. Being a farmer, I was horrified
when I was approached by a ministry official to treat a cow for
warble fly by pouring this chemical along the spinal cord and the
base of the head,'' he said.

``It was an oil designed to seep through the skin and to change the
entire internal environment of the cow into a poisonous medium to
kill off the parasites.''

Purdey began to trawl through books and do field research.

He looked at the clusters of BSE in Britain, clusters of deer and elk
in the United States with a similar illness called chronic wasting
disease, and villages where many people were dying of the more common
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

``I went on the road,'' he said, describing trips to the United
States, Slovakia, Calabria in Italy and Iceland.

``To me it was clearly something in the environment that was igniting
these illnesses. But what was this factor?''

He found one common factor -- high levels of manganese, a metal given
to cattle in high doses via the organophosphate.

``What I found in the environment was supported by the laboratory,''
he said, describing tests by David Brown, a neurobiologist at
Cambridge University.

Purdey explains the prion would normally bond with copper and carry
it around the brain to destroy free radicals. But if lacking copper,
the prion bonds with another metal -- manganese, which stops the
prion from folding properly.

He did soil analysis on the areas near clusters of vCJD in Britain
and found high levels of manganese from crop spraying. He concluded
the doses of manganese intensifies the traditional illness, giving
vCJD the potency to kill younger people.

Funding Required

Now all he wants is funding for more research -- something that
Agriculture Minister Nick Brown says may be ready in May after a
scientist has reviewed all work into the origins of BSE.

``In the BSE inquiry there is a caveat that it is not clear whether
organophosphates could have been a contributory factor...it leaves
the door open on organophosphates,'' Brown told Reuters.

But Purdey is worried that the funding may never come.

``No one's prepared to admit it because it would involve massive
compensation,'' he said. ``By keeping the causal agent as something
mystified, no one's to blame.''

News from Hebron
The Hebron Press Office
February 4, 2001

1. Shech Professor Abdul Hadi Palazzi visits Hebron

Shech Professor Abdul Hadi Palazzi, an outspoken Zionist Muslim
clergyman,
today visited Hebron, a guest of the Jewish Community of
Hebron. He was
escorted by Mr. Aryeh Gallin, director of the Root and Branch
Association.

Shech Palazzi, an Italian, is the Secretary General of the
Italian Muslim
Association and the Muslim Co-Chairman of the Islam-Israel
Fellowship of
the Root and Branch Association. He is the former Imam of Rome.
He is also
a professor of the History of Islam in Rome.

On Monday, January 29, Shech Palazzi gave the keynote address
at the Root
and Branch Association Conference on Jerusalem, hosted by
Jerusalem Mayor
Ehud Olmert in the Jerusalem City Council Chambers. At that
time he
emphasized the rights of Jews to Jerusalem and sovereignty on
Temple Mount.

The Shech visited Jewish homes in Tel Rumeida and spoke with
Hebron
residents Baruch Marzel and Mrs. Bracha Ben Yitzhak. He visited
all the
Jewish neighborhoods and both the "Jewish" and "Arab" sides of
Ma'arat
HaMachpela. He later met with Hebron leaders, including Mayor
Avraham Ben
Yosef, Noam Arnon and David Wilder.

See pictures of the visit:

**************************************************************************

The following are statements made by Shech Palazzi during a
roundtable
discussion:
"Even though Israel has never been defeated at war, the Oslo
Accords look
like a surrender agreement."
"Now that Arafat is in control, Arabs in East Jerusalem are
afraid. Many of
them do not want to be transferred to the Palestinian Authority
without a
referendum. "
---------------------------------------
"The term 'Jihad' is used against Israel, but not against
anyone else. If,
according to Islam, there must be a 'Jihad' against any country
where
Muslims once controlled, why isn't there a declaration of Jihad
against
Spain, for instance, or also Sicily, where Muslims once ruled.
Jihad is the
task of a state, of an army against an army, but not of
political groups,
and certainly not against civilians, women and children. This
is forbidden
by Islamic law."
-------------------------------------
"The Land of Israel was given to the Jews. It is clear,
according to the
Koran, that Jews would be brought back to Israel before the
'end of days.'
According to the Koran, any state which protects the religious
rights of
Muslims must be obeyed. The Muslims in that state must by loyal
citizens.
Any Arab who cannot accept Jewish rule in Israel must leave.
Rejecting
Jewish presence and sovereignty in Israel is against the
Koran."
-----------------------------------
"There is no Palestinian people. They have never existed and
they never
will exist. Until 1967 Arabs living in Gazza were Egyptians and
Arabs
living in the "West Bank" were Jordanians."
----------------------------------
----------------------------------
Shech Palazzi is speaking tonight at the Israeli Center in
Jerusalem and
tomorrow is returning to Italy. He is expected to return to
Israel to
participate in a special conference before the end of the year.

Before leaving Hebron, the Shech was presented with a special
silver Hebron
medallion, with an engraving of Ma'arat HaMachpela - the Tomb
of the
Patriarchs and Matriarchs.

For more information about the Islam-Israel Fellowship see the
Root and
Branch website: http://www.rb.org.il or email rb@rb.org.il

2. Shooting in Hebron
Arab terrorists continued shooting at Hebron's neighborhoods on
Friday
night, Saturday afternoon and Saturday night. They shot at
Jewish children
walking to Ma'arat HaMachpela in the late afternoon. No one was
hurt.
However, the back windshield of an Israeli car parked in the
Avraham Avinu
neighborhood was hit by several bullets, smashing it to pieces.
Israeli
troops returned the gunfire.

supporter suffered bodily injury.

The police asked the Barak supporters to press charges against the
Israeli Arabs but the Barak supporters declined.

Barak campaign spokesperson Riki Drori told IMRA today that the Barak

in light of intelligence data indicating the likelihood of
disturbances.

Police remain on high alert and acknowledge they are especially
concerned that terrorists may attempt to perpetrate an attack on the
day before or on Election Day. Tuesday, Feb. 6. As a result, a
sizeable increase in police presence in sensitive areas was already
implemented over the weekend.

    ++++
8. Israel denies reports of imminent prisoner exchange
(BNI-FEB.4) Official Israeli government sources issued statement of
denial Sunday following Lebanese press reports that there would be a
prisoner exchange between Israel and Lebanon before Election Day in
Israel, Feb. 6.

soldiers for terrorists serving in Israeli prisons and remains of
terrorists, would be implemented before Election Day.

Three IDF soldiers captured by Hizbullah from northern Israel have
been held hostage for four months.
