Subject: Matthew as a witness

Sometimes silver linings show-up in amongst the storm clouds.

Matthew is in the Neo-Natal Unit at Flinders Medical Centre. He shares
a room divided into three bays with a transient population of 'border'
babies (born a bit early or in need of some additional attention but
of no real concern) and a couple of other long-term inmates.

On Matthew's crib and then on the cot that he moved too on Saturday,
we have two book marks with applicable texts 'God loves you', and
'Trust in the Power of the Lord'. We also have the Aaronic blessing
printed out and affixed to his cot. We say it to him before leaving
him to go home.

Amongst the mothers is a young woman by the name of Lindsay. Lindsay
has track marks on the insides of her arms and down her calves.
Gradually, as you would, we have gotten to know Lindsay and other
mothers and fathers and children as we pass time with Matthew.

On Thursday afternoon I had called in to see Matthew on my way home
from work. Lindsay was talking to her baby Sarah Jane and I thought I
heard her say something about going to church. I was happy to hear her
say this as I had been praying that she might get herself sorted out
and find the Lord.

Today, Monday, Lindsay came up to Deidre and said 'I want to thank
you'. Deidre asked what for. Lindsay said that she has seen us being
so positive about Matthew that it had made her go to church for the
first time in a long time; and she enjoyed it. People there have
offered her a pram and baby-clothes.

Praise the Lord! I have tears in my eyes typing this. Matthew's
quandry has I hope and pray, saved at least one soul and perhaps two
if Sarah grows up in the faith.

BTW A Professor Davidson came to see Matthew today. He thinks that
Matthew could have an allergy to a protein, although this is not by
any means certain. If it is then a formula will be able to be prepared
that he will be able to tolerate.

Thank you, once again, for all of your prayers. Pray for Lindsay too
please.

David Elphick
