This has to be a joke. How could anyone be so intelligent and be so
unaware of the possibility of unwanted effects. To use any group of
computers in the military, that can write its own language, and hunt as
a pack is asking for disaster.

If one person infected the programming of such a device it could dial up
any computer in the world, "crack it" and destroy sensitive data, or
destroy the hard drive. If they were used with unmanned aircraft or
weaponry a "virus" could turn them against man, any man.

Why would someone be trying to use computers in this way to start with?
Don't we have enough weapons? Do we really want hunting computers that
work together in their own language that can out think us? How long
would it take us to translate the language and how fast could the
computer write a new one.

I know that the last part is far fetched. But what can go wrong tends
to go wrong. I just think that it is time for scientist to be ethical
in the approach that they use, in regards to the safety of the world
population.

If a computer can communicate with other computers with its own language
that it wrote, at some time computers will be able to translate other
languages, on other systems. At that point a hacker could turn the
hunter computer against our own nuclear or other weapons systems.

A computer does not have a survival instinct. It would have no reason
not to launch any weapon. It would be blind to the effects it would
create. It just follows the programming.

So if a computer like this could be built, eventually it would be a
constant battle for control of it. Always trying to keep hackers from
other governments or private citizens from taking control and turning it
against the people of the world.

Just a thought

Subject: [bprlist] Ethnic Indians make pilgrimage to sacred temple

Ethnic Indians make pilgrimage to sacred temple
By Rohan Sullivan, AP
7 February 2001

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/World/Pacific_Rim/2001-
02/skewer070201.shtml

Led by devotees who pierced their cheeks with skewers and their
torsos with dozens of steel hooks, up to one million ethnic Indians
made a pilgrimage to Malaysia's most sacred Hindu temple.

In a procession which started before dawn and continued all day,
Malaysia's Hindus opened the ancient festival called Thaipusam by
climbing a limestone cliff to the Batu Caves north of Kuala Lumpur to
offer penance, ask forgiveness and make wishes of the Hindu god Lord
Muruga.

In ceremonies at the foot of the mountain, priests smeared ashes on
the foreheads of worshippers dressed in saffron or red=96colored robes
and turbans. As onlookers chanted "vel, vel" =96 a victory cry related
to Muruga's spear =96 some devotees swooned, then awoke with a cry in a
wild=96eyed, snarling trance.

One by one, priests plunged skewers trough the cheeks, tongues or
both of scores of entranced worshippers, without bloodshed or
apparent pain.

Other devotees pierced their backs and chests with hooks from which
dangled oranges and limes, flowers or brass vials filled with milk.
Dozens more shouldered heavy kavadi, platforms on frames bearing
statues of deities and decorated with flowers, ribbons and peacock
feathers. Children and women carried shining pots of milk on their
heads.

Monkeys chattered and watched from trees growing on the steep slope
as the procession made its way up the 272 steps to the cavern, where
holy men accepted homage.

"We pay tribute to the god Lord Muruga and pray for prosperity for
family and friends," said Yasotha Suppannan, 26, a computer
programmer, as she helped make flower garlands to decorate the
shrines.

"Some people carry milk and some kavadi," she said. "The power of the
prayer depends on the tribute. Those with hooks =96 their wishes will
come true."

Inside the caves, coconuts are hacked open and piled against the
walls as a sign of cleansing and humility. The spikes and hooks are
removed, and the devotees come down the from the temple with their
mouths and backs covered with strips of colored cloth.

The three=96day Thaipusam festival is banned in India, where it
originated, but is practiced across Malaysia, Singapore and Sri
Lanka. It forms a rallying point for Malaysia's ethnic Indians, who
were originally brought as plantation laborers and now comprise about
10 percent of the country's 22 million population but are among its
poorest citizens and politically marginalized.

In Malaysia's northern city of Penang, worshippers smashed hundreds
of thousands of coconuts in the street, coating it in pulp and debris
to cleanse the path of a Thaipusam procession.

In Singapore, which has an ethnic Indian population of about 7
percent, thousands of worshippers, many of them pierced, made the
march between two Hindu temples in the affluent city=96state of 4
million people.

A handful of ethnic Chinese also took part.

Near one temple, a muscular middle=96aged man danced frantically on
wooden sandals with nails driven up through the soles and gouging
into his feet.

A steady stream of devotees made the painful pilgrimage along a
parade route lined with thousands of spectators.

Palestinians upgrade arsenal with smuggled anti-tank, anti-aircraft
weapons

MIDDLE EAST NEWSLINE

TEL AVIV =97 Israel braced for an escalation in violence following its
election as military sources said the Palestinian Authority had
received hundreds of rocket-propelled grenades as well as anti-tank
and anti-aircraft weapons.

The sources said the weapons arrived in barrels brought by boat from
the Mediterranean Sea. The boat, believed to have come from Egypt,
dropped the barrels in the sea off the Gaza coast, where some of them
were picked up by Palestinian fishing boats.

Other barrels drifted to shore and were taken to PA installations. The
sources said Israeli naval vessels stopped one shipment over the
weekend. But the navy failed to stop other shipments.

Last week, Israel seized 50 rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 1,000
rockets, and scores of 60 mm mortar rounds, military sources said.

The result is an Israeli assessment that the PA is prepared to face
Israeli tanks and even attack helicopters in any confrontation with
Israel. Military sources said an escalation of violence could take
place immediately after the Israeli elections on Tuesday.

Intense gun battles took place overnight Tuesday between Israeli and
Palestinian forces. One Israeli soldier was killed by a Palestinian
sniper near the Egyptian border.

Rescuing scrolls from Saddam's Iraq
Israeli intelligence smuggles out Torah documents

Editor's Note: WorldNetDaily international correspondent Anthony C.
LoBaido made two recent trips to Iraq and Israel, as well as forays
into Jordan and Turkey in pursuit of this story.

NICOSIA, Cyprus -- As new Prime Minister Ariel Sharon takes power in
Israel, a half-century-old intelligence operation may be nearing
completion, one which seeks to bring a sense of closure to the
biblical Babylonian captivity, after Israel's Mossad spy agency
smuggled out a few dozen Torah scrolls from Iraq.

It is an operation that deals with both treasured manuscripts and
something far more valuable -- Jewish believers still trapped in Iraq
by Saddam Hussein's police apparatus.

Hussein wanted to destroy the Torah scrolls -- some of which are
hundreds of years old -- but was unable to complete that task.

The existence of the 30-some scrolls was made known last year when
the chief rabbi of Israel used one of the smuggled scrolls in a
religious festival in the city of Afula.

Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau explained to the Israeli media
that "one branch" of the Israeli intelligence apparatus -- either
Shin Bet (akin to the U.S. FBI) or the Mossad (Israel's version of
the CIA) carried out the smuggling operation.

Mordechai Ben-Porat, the director of the Center for the Heritage of
Babylonian Jewry, also acknowledged that the smuggling operation had
been carried out, but he denied the involvement of Israeli
intelligence. Ben-Porat is an important figure in Israel. He grew up
in Iraq and acted as sort of a "Harriet Tubman" figure in helping to
smuggle out almost all of the Jews living in Iraq between 1949 and
1951 -- over 100,000. He did this by horseback on his own, before
gaining assistance from Israeli intelligence. When these Jews
returned to Israel en masse in the 1950s, they brought with them
about 390-405 Torah scrolls. However, they left between 40-50 in a
secret hiding place in Baghdad.

When Saddam discovered the hiding place of the scrolls while looking
for new places to hide his own weapons of mass destruction, Israeli
intelligence was forced into action to save the remaining documents.

Since 1995, Ben-Porat has masterminded the trek of the few remaining
Jews in Iraq to return to Israel -- about 160 in all. Most of these
Jews went on to live in Holland or Great Britain. Iraqi border agents
were bribed to let the Jews pass through unharmed into Jordan.

Between 24 and 36 Iraqi Jews are still trapped in Baghdad and other
cities, the Mossad station chief in Jordan told WorldNetDaily. This
community is extremely important to Israel. Why? Because it is a
remnant that can directly trace its lineage back to the Babylonian
captivity of 586 B.C. Until 1914, almost a third of the citizens in
Baghdad were Jews descended from those who lived in exile.

This smuggling operation was carefully executed. Mossad agents based
in Kurdistan, Ankara and Istanbul bribed Iraqi army officers to carry
out the scrolls through Jordan. In Amman, Israeli intelligence agents
then paid off Palestinian and Iraqi "businessmen" for the cache.

The Israeli Ministry of Religious Affairs then gave various
synagogues around Israel the chance to review the scrolls.

Noam Ben Yehuda, a Mossad intelligence agent based in Cyprus, told
WorldNetDaily that the success of the smuggling mission was paramount
to the intelligence services.

"Being a good Jew is important to us, as much as being a good field
agent," he said.

He said finding the Torah scrolls and returning them to Israel
was "the final link in completing the work begun by Ben-Porat so long
ago. Sure, there are still a handful of Jews left in Baghdad. But the
whole operation led by Ben-Porat may be the single greatest
achievement in the history of the intelligence services in our
nation."

Boon to Orthodoxy

The successful smuggling operation and ongoing intelligence mission
to bring the remaining few dozen Jews home from Iraq will no doubt
bring feelings of pride to most Jews -- and Orthodox Jews in
particular. The number of Orthodox believers is growing both around
the world and in Israel. Orthodox birth rates range between seven and
10 children per family. Yeshivas, day schools and synagogues are also
seeing their membership rolls on the rise. The Orthodox Jews in
Israel have won control of around one third of the Israeli
parliament's Knesset seats.

David Eidensohn, who serves as a consultant to Gannet papers on
Jewish issues, told WorldNetDaily, "In America, when I grew up in
the '50s, there were about five students in the Washington, D.C.,
Yeshiva and 80 students in the top rabbinical seminary in Lakewood.
Today, there are many thousands in these places who are ultra-
Orthodox. It is an exponential explosion fueled by high birth rate
and a swarm of 'returning Jews.'"

Israeli citizen Abu Youssef told WND, "Many Israeli governments
headed by the Labor Party have fallen when they tried to tamper with
Judaism. This is the main reason Barak lost his mandate to be prime
minister. Without Judaism, there is no reason for the state of Israel
to exist. Jews are welcome in all the countries in the world. Had
Barak not tried his secular revolution nor let the Arabs obliterate
Jewish history on the Temple Mount, he may have remained prime
minister."

'Capital of Israel for all eternity'

From Deagl=E1n de Br=E9ad=FAn, Foreign Affairs Correspondent, in Jerusalem=

http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/world/2001/0208/wor6.htm

SHARON'S ELECTION: The Israeli Prime Minister-elect, Mr Ariel Sharon,
marked the first day since his victory with a visit to Jerusalem's
Western Wall, and declared that the city would be the "united and
indivisible" capital of the Jewish state for all eternity.

Offering prayers of thanksgiving at the wall, Mr Sharon said: "I am
visiting Jerusalem, the capital of the Jewish people for the past
3,000 years and the united and indivisible capital of Israel - with
the Temple Mount at its centre - for all eternity."

Visiting the Western Wall is a tradition among newly-elected Israeli
prime ministers, but Mr Sharon's comment underlined the difference in
approach between himself and his defeated rival, the outgoing Prime
Minister, Mr Ehud Barak, who had appeared willing to consider some
form of compromise with the Palestinians on the status of Jerusalem.

Sovereignty over Arab East Jerusalem, which was captured in the 1967
Middle East war and includes the Temple Mount, is a major bone of
contention in Israeli-Palestinian relations. Palestinians want East
Jerusalem as the capital of a future state: their current intifada or
uprising began four months ago after Mr Sharon made a highly
publicised visit to the Temple Mount. The Israelis say the visit was
used as a pretext by the Palestinians.

The disputed hilltop of the Temple Mount is the location for two
mosques, built above the buried ruins of the biblical Jewish Temples.
Israel claims sovereignty, but Muslims have day-to-day control of the
hilltop compound while Jews pray at the Western Wall below.

Mr Sharon's appearance at the Western Wall, which forms one exterior
wall of the Temple Mount and is controlled by Israel, was not
considered as provocative as his previous visit.

However, Mr Sharon struck a more conciliatory note when he told
reporters at the wall: "I will bring unity and I'll bring peace to
the citizens of Israel and stability to the Middle East." Beforehand
he had visited the grave of his wife, Lily, who died of cancer last
year, at their farm in southern Israel.

In one of the most convincing election victories in Israel's history,
Mr Sharon beat Mr Barak by 62.5 per cent to 37.4 per cent. An
official Palestinian reaction was given by a top aide to President
Yasser Arafat. Mr Navil Aburdeneh said they would work with Mr
Sharon, "as long as the new Israeli government will commit itself to
the peace process".

However, Mr Arafat's Fatah faction, usually more militant than the
general Palestinian leadership, called on its leaders "not to have
any communication or negotiations with Sharon". The group said: "In
the wake of the election of the killer Sharon, we are calling for the
escalation of the Intifada".

Once official election results are announced in a week's time, Mr
Sharon will in theory have 45 days to form a coalition government and
have it approved by the Knesset, the Israeli parliament. But there is
an additional complication arising from the fact that the Knesset
must pass the 2001 budget by March 31st. If the budget is not
approved, the Knesset will be dissolved and there will be a general
election.

The Prime Minister-elect has urged the Labour Party to take part in a
national unity government, although the decision of Mr Barak to step
down as leader may mean that Labour will be distracted by the process
of choosing a successor. In the absence of Labour participation, Mr
Sharon would have to settle for a narrower alliance of rightwing and
religious parties.

Speaking in Washington, President Bush pledged to work with Mr Sharon
to achieve peace in the Middle East. "We're going to play the hand
we've been dealt," he said, "and we're going to play it well".

The President of the European Commission, Mr Romano Prodi, will visit
Syria tomorrow for talks with President Bashar al-Assad on problems
in the Middle East peace process. He will also visit Jordan and
Lebanon.

Growing Congregations Spur Church Construction Boom
Wednesday, February 7, 2001

http://www.foxnews.com/national/020701/churches_fnc.sml

The swelling membership of religious congregations across America is
doing more than sparking a national spiritual awakening. Fitting all
those new converts into houses of worship is fueling a multi-million
dollar construction boom of new and expanded churches.

Ed Young, senior pastor at Fellowship Church in Plano, Texas, said
his congregation has more than doubled in the past two years.

"We came in here running 5,000 or 6,000 people in attendance, and on
a good weekend now, several years later, we'll get over 13,000
people," Young said. "We're just blown away," he said.

In Dallas, membership at St. James Episcopal Church has doubled in
five years. And with church leaders expecting those numbers to double
again soon, building a new parish hall has become a top priority.
Until then, St. James =97 like other parishes not currently building
with the boom =97 is accomodating the crowds with an expanded schedule,
offering four services a week.

Last year, religious institutions spent $7.96 billion on construction
projects, according to the U.S. Census Bureau =97 a $500 million
increase from 1999.

Religious scholars say people are turning toward spirituality in
their search for a sense of community. Pastors admit that beautiful
buildings do attract people initially. But they say it's the message
being delivered inside that keeps the crowds coming back.

"We're going to continue to emerge and grow because as long as there
are people out there who are not connected to a local church, then we
want to continue to grow and to develop," Young said.

But while the congregations are not complaining about the crowds, the
soaring numbers have changed the local church experience for many
long-term members.

"On a close personal basis, I probably don't know but a third of the
people here now," said Tom Gowan, who has been a member at St. James
since 1967. "But that's okay. It's a different type of Church than it
was before," he said.

Subject: [bprlist] MoD Report - Grim prophecy of war on every front
From: <owner-bpr@philologos.org>
Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2001 08:50:38 -0500

FEBRUARY 08 2001

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0,,2-80571,00.html

Grim prophecy of war on every front

Michael Evans reports on the MoD's vision of the military's future
role

AN APOCALYPTIC view of the next 30 years was presented by the Ministry
of Defence yesterday, with a warning of conflicts created by global
warming, battles over water supplies and genetic and robotic warfare.

Britain's Armed Forces, already overstretched by operational
commitments, have to face a future in which they will be increasingly
involved in tackling natural disasters as well as protecting British
interests at home and abroad from unconventional enemies.

The MoD's gaze into the crystal ball has produced a series of alarming
assumptions and predictions which have been laid down in a report
called The Future Strategic Context for Defence, published yesterday.

The report follows the Government's Strategic Defence Review,
published in 1998, which was "foreign policy-based" and matched
equipment and resources to meet the perceived security and defence
challenges up to 2015.

In the new report, the MoD has looked to the year 2030, but its
revised vision of the future focuses more on the emerging
environmental, economic and technological trends that could have an
impact on the Armed Forces.

Global warming, the MoD decided, was already happening and average
global temperatures could rise by between 2C and 4C this century.
"Among the effects, we can expect to see rising sea levels and
extensive flooding of coastal areas, which could cause serious
practical and safety issues for some key UK defence facilities and
lead to increasing requests for military assistance at home," the
report said.

Overseas, tensions and instability would increase in Africa and the
Middle East, because of rising demand for fresh water and agricultural
land.

"If present consumption patterns continue, by 2025 two- thirds of the
world's population will be living in =91water-stressed' conditions," =
the
report said.

Water wars could follow. "Resource scarcities and flooding are likely
to prompt population migrations, which may place unmanageable burdens
on recipient states, many of whose economies are already stressed,
whilst inflaming existing ethnic, cultural or religious tensions."

Long-term disruption to Gulf oil supplies and an increasing reliance
on imported gas could also lead to crises. The report said that by
2020 the UK could be importing as much as 90 per cent of its gas
supplies, principally from Russia, Iran and Algeria. Disputes over
offshore resources could spark conflict, particularly in the
Asia-Pacific region.

Among other "threats and challenges", the MoD listed:

Genetic warfare: some states might try to harness understanding of the
function of specific genes for genetic warfare or biogenetic
terrorism, such as targeting food sources.

Spread of infectious diseases: Aids would develop into an even more
serious problem in Asia, overtaking Africa by about 2010. Guarding
against infectious diseases would become an important consideration
for British peacekeeping forces operating with troops from the
affected countries.

Chemical and biological warfare: the risk of terrorist and criminal
groups acquiring cheap, simple "CW" and "BW" technology, helped by
Internet information, would increase. "Well before 2030", rogue states
"will have ballistic missiles capable of reaching the UK carrying
chemical or biological payloads and, potentially, nuclear weapons".

Urban peacekeeping: already more than half the population of the
developing world live in urban or semi-urban environments and this
would rise. Peace and humanitarian assistance operations would involve
operating in urban areas. Trying to meet military objectives while
minimising "collateral damage and casualties" would pose
challenges.MoD officials emphasised that the report did not represent
government policy and some predictions of the future could prove
wrong, but it provided an insight into the thinking at the highest
level in the ministry.

The report recognised that the paper contained judgments about the
future with which many would disagree.

However, it said: "In future conflicts we will wish to fight from a
distance for as long as possible, in order to preserve the force. The
pressures from public opinion and the media for minimum casualties (on
both sides) and for reduced damage to the environment and
infrastructure during limited wars will increase the need to find
non-traditional methods of achieving military objectives."

Shalom,

About an hour ago (5 p.m.) a car bomb exploded in an ultra-Orthodox
area of Jerusalem near a yeshiva where Jews were observing the
festival of Tu b'Shvat.

Reports are sketchy at this hour but at least two persons were
injured. The extent of their injury was unknown.

Meanwhile, more than 8,000 ultra-Orthodox Jews are gathered -- and
continue to gather -- near the scene on Rehov Shmuel Ha-Navi (the
Prophet Samuel Street), demonstrating and yelling, "Death to Arabs."

Israeli police are having difficulties containing them but are trying
to keep them back concerned that another bomb may be planted in a pile
of garbage nearby. (The garbage workers strike has resulted in
uncollected piles of garbage throughout the city).

This one hit close to home folks. It was detonated very near one of
the yeshivas where Rav Schneider and I usually meet. However, today,
because of my son's illness, we only spoke over the phone and Rav
Schneider decided not to come into Jerusalem today. Although we sent
Aaron back to school today -- since he wasn't running a fever any
more), my wife was concerned that he might have to come home early and
I should be here in that event. Rav Schneider and I were going to
meet later in the afternoon near this yeshiva where the car bomb was
detonated, but he decided when we spoke this morning just to delay our
meeting until next week! So Baruch Hashem, neither of us were anywhere
near the scene.

I'm trying to get more information from some ultra-Orthodox friends
who live nearby but the lines are all busy right now. CNN should have
some details shortly for the Western media.

I will post more details later tonight.

Shalom Shalom & please keep this incident in mind during your prayers,
ben Yosef

Police continue sweep for possible additional explosive devices
(BNI-FEB.8) One eyewitness to the car bomb blast, a student in the
nearby Mir Yeshiva, told reporters that only about ten seconds before
the two blasts, a truck delivering liquid propane gas cylinders to the
area passed the blast site. The student reported hearing two
explosions, with the second being the more powerful.

Police bomb demolition experts working with bomb-sniffing dogs, are
combing the area. The local municipality strike is complicating the
situation since there is a great deal of garbage piled up, making the
work of the dogs increasingly difficult.

All persons working on the scene, near 17 Beit Yisrael Street, at the
corner of Rokach Street, have been ordered to distance themselves from
the car bomb after a suspicious object was discovered in the remains
of the vehicle. The demolition personnel detonated the object with a
controlled explosion. Police are trying to record the vehicle
identification number to trace the ownership and determine if it was
stolen from inside "Israel proper" and/or the name and details of the
registered owner.

A senior police official on the scene stated the explosive was placed
in the trunk of the vehicle and was "relatively large," but declined
to state with certainty how the device was detonated.

One woman, in her sixties, was transported to a Hadassah Hospital on
Mount Scopus, in Jerusalem, with light injuries. Emergency medical
service officials report some ten persons are being treated for
hysteria.

Other eyewitnesses reported seeing smoke from the blast reaching the
fourth floor of the adjacent building.

No organization has claimed responsibility for the blast at this time
but security agencies are looking towards the Islamic Jihad and Hamas
terrorist organization, both having vowed to escalate attacks
following the election of Ariel Sharon as the next prime minister.
Israel's Channel 2 TV on Wednesday reported there was intelligence
information pointing to a car bomb attack.

According to Mir Yeshiva student Yossi Brandes, 21, from England,
explained he ran out of the nearby luncheonette following the first
blast, seeing the flash from the explosion. He explained that
something told him there would be another blast and he immediately
began shouting to pedestrians to run from the area. The second blast
occurred seconds later.

Subject: [bprlist] URGENT: NO SERIOUS INJURIES IN CAR BOMBING -- RESIDENTS

Shalom,

The latest details on the car bombing:

This is from an eyewitness at the Meir Yeshiva who asked that I not
use his name:

It is being called a "miracle" that NO ONE was seriously hurt. One
person was lightly injured and nine others were treated for shock.

The car bombing did occur within a block of the Meir Yeshiva in the
area known as Beit Yisrael (House of Israel).

Two explosions were reported about 30 seconds apart. The first -- a
very loud blast heard more than a kilometer away -- blew apart a car
parked on Rehov Beit Yisrael, which is the street that runs behind the
Meir Yeshiva and between Rehov Shmuel Ha-Navi (Samuel the Prophets
Street) and Mea She'arim (another ultra-Orthodox area). Parts of the
car were blown more than 150 meters in the air and a thick column of
smoke was in evidence.

Students in the yeshiva said they immediately started praying. About
thirty seconds later, after the second blast, some of them went out
into the street and could not find anyone injured except one elderly
woman who was knocked to the ground by the force of the explosion. But
about nine other witnesses were hysterical because Rehov Beit Yisrael
is a narrow street used by many pedestrians including school children
because of the numerous schools and yeshivas that are located nearby.

"Apparently most of the parts of the car exploded straight up into the
air and did not strike anyone when they fell back down," the
eye-witness said. "If the car would have exploded outward, many
persons might have been hurt."

A spontaneous demonstration of praise with singing and hasidic style
dance broke out afterwards led by the students in the yeshiva who were
singing praises to Hashem for a NES, a miracle, that no one was hurt.
Virtually the entire community -- several thousand persons -- had
assembled within minutes and all of them were praising Hashem, dancing
and weeping. When the word spread further, thousands more of
ultra-Orthodox Jews from other neighborhoods nearby and other Jews
from throughout the city started to assemble to join in the
demonstration which was mixed with shouts of "Death to the Arabs," and
signs and placards reading "Arabs Out" and "No More Restrait."

Even the more reserved police on the scene described the lack of
injuries in the heavily trafficed area as "great luck."

The demonstration is ongoing and is expected to last well into the
night.

Shalom Shalom & please join with our praises to Hashem for this great
NES ben Yosef

New Quake Injures 25
Injuries Include Panicked Residents Who Jumped Out of Windows

By Farid Hossain
The Associated Press

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/world/DailyNews/india_quake010209.html

B H U J, India, Feb. 9 =97 A series of earthquakes shook buildings late
Thursday and early today in the western Indian state of Gujarat,
where a large quake killed at least 17,000 people two weeks ago. At
least 25 people were reportedly injured in the aftershocks.

Police said the injured included 15 panicked residents who jumped
from the windows of their homes in Ahmedabad, according to the Press
Trust of India.

The Indian Meteorological Department said a 5.3-magnitude quake shook
the Kutch district at 10:25 p.m. Thursday. The epicenter was 12.5
miles northeast of Bhachau, a town that was badly damaged in the Jan.
26 quake, said S.N. Vhattchara, deputy director general of the
department.

The quake was followed by 10 aftershocks of magnitudes measuring
between 3 and 4, Vhattchara said.

Hundreds of Aftershocks Rock Region

More than 230 aftershocks have rocked the region since the 7.7
magnitude earthquake, India's worst tremor in half a century.

Residents across Gujarat felt the quake Thursday night, and many who
feared their buildings would collapse rushed into the street and
spent the night outside. They jammed state telephone lines
temporarily while trying to call loved ones in the aftermath.

Some 24,000 soldiers have deployed in Gujarat to search for bodies,
clear debris and help hundreds of thousands of injured and homeless
people. Many survivors of the quake are still sleeping outside under
plastic sheets, awaiting tents and other relief supplies.

The Home Ministry says at least 17,000 people died and unofficial
estimates say the toll is likely to reach 30,000, with many victims
still buried under the rubble. Bhuj was among the hardest-hit towns,
with whole neighborhoods flattened by the tremor.

CANADIAN GOV'T AND UNITED WAY SPONSOR S&M SEX WORKSHOP FOR 14-YEAR-
OLDS

http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2001/feb/010208.html

BARRIE, ON, Feb 8, 2001 (LSN.ca) - A "Youth Conference" for young
people between 14-29 to be held Saturday at Georgian College in
Barrie will feature a workshop on practicing "safe" sado-masochistic
sex. The Barrie Examiner reports that Duncan MacLachlan, executive
producer of the Mr. Leatherman Toronto competition - a major event of
the Toronto S&M community - will present the workshop. An ad for the
conference on the web page of the AIDS Committee of Simcoe County
lists Health Canada and the United Way Young Adult Initiative as
sponsors of the event. Other sponsors include the Civic Renewal
Project, Gay and Lesbian Alliance of Simcoe County and Think Clear.

The Examiner reports that it was organized by the AIDS Committee of
Simcoe County, the Healthy Communities Coalition and the United Way
Young Adult Initiative. AIDS committee spokesperson, Gina Frederick,
told the Examiner that the S&M workshop will be open to all
registered for the conference regardless of age. On the subject of
S&M she said, "It's a very specialized sexual activity and requires
more care and more education. MacLachlan will discuss how to reduce
the risks of engaging in that kind of activity."

Joy Webster, of the United Way's Young Adult Initiative, said
Wednesday there had been an "overwhelming response" to the
conference, but that she'd heard from only one parent thus far who
had concerns about that particular workshop.

"Don't Throw Unborn Babies Into The Sewage" Appeals UDM MPL
February 6, 2001
Sam Mkokeli
Bisho

http://allafrica.com/stories/200102060239.html

The habit of throwing unborn babies into the provincial sewage should
be actively discouraged, said UDM MPL Christian Martin yesterday
(subs:tues).

Martin was appealing to the legislature to take note of
the "dramatic" incidence of aborted foetuses that were being found at
disposal works in the province, specifically in the Schorneville area
near King William's Town.

He said a subsidised education programme on the use of contraceptives
was needed.

Throwing a foetus into the sewage was a serious action and the people
concerned needed counselling in order to acknowledge the seriousness
of their actions..

A follow-up on every case needed to be instituted by the police in
order to curb "these unnecessary happenings and to discourage these
events."

The legislature is expected to debate the issue later on.

Subject: [bprlist] 12 x 12,000 'Virgins'
From: Pam
Date: Fri, 09 Feb 2001 12:47:59 -0500

I would like you to know I appreciate all the effort you and your
group put into putting pertinent information on BPR for the interest and
edification of your readers. I praise the Lord that you have found some
of my thoughts suitable for inclusion and thank you for taking the time
to consider them. You might wish to consider the following. Praise the
Lord!

12 x 12,000 ‘Virgins´.

As you know, 144,000; 12,000 from each tribe of Israel, will be sealed
by God at the beginning of Daniel´s 70th week. It appears they will
witness during the 7 years and, later, ‘a great multitude which no man
could number´ will stand before the throne of the Lamb. Rev. 7 tells us
of the sealing of the 144,000 and then of the multitude. I think this
multitude will be those who come to accept Jesus Christ as the Son of
God during the 7 years and some will do so as the result of the
witnessing of the 144,000. Praise the Lord!

For some time I have thought the 144,000 would be ‘Messianic Jews´,
Jews who have accepted Jesus Christ as the Son of God and who have
maintained their ‘Jewish´ identity. The Bible refers to them as
‘virgins´, in Rev. 14:4, when John sees them with the Lamb on mount
Sion. As with all Christian ‘virgins´ they are not defiled with women,
with the nations of the world, their love is given to the Lamb. Praise
the Lord!

However, how this could be has eluded me until today. I think it is
probable they will be some of the Messianic Jews, the ‘Joes´ as they are
called by ben Josef and his group. I think they will be ‘Joes´ who
‘return to the Jews´, ostensibly to effect a reunion of the Northern and
Southern Tribes, and I think, when the 144,000, whom God has chosen,
have done so, God will rapture the Church. The instant that happens, I
am sure, these ‘Joes´ will be sealed by God and will, because of their
re-association with the Jews they will be effective Messianic witnesses
to the nation of Israel. Further, both they and their ‘converts´ will
be witnesses to "all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues" -
Rev.14. Praise the Lord!

I think you will agree the return of the bridegroom for the bride is
imminent.
I could be today!!!
Praise, Praise, Praise the Lord!

God Bless you. Charlie Baker.
