Hi David,
Finally got to the list with your latest contribution.

Some comments:

1. In scripture there is a clear distinction between Hades and Hell.
Hades is the waiting place of the dead waiting for the judgement/resurrection.
Hell is the place of final judgement and punishment, the lake of Fire.

The KJV and some modern translations tend to translate the Greek hados as "hell" but wrongly so. As a result in the minds of many Christians, and I suspect you as well, Hades is identified with Hell.

This is not so: Revelation 20:14 "Death and Hades were cast into the lake of Fire" If Hades can be cast into the lake of fire then it is not the same thing as the lake of fire, i.e Hell.

The verses you quote about Jesus descent all in the Greek refer to hados, hades. There is no teaching in the Bible that Jesus descended into Hell.

The only way out of this quandary for you is to take the following course: Identify Hades with Hell, and thus do not identify Hell with the Lake of Fire.

The result of this is to say eternal damnation is not in Hell. Thus Hell is not the opposite of Heaven, rather the opposite of Heaven is the Lake of Fire, which by definition cannot be Hell.

In Jewish, asnd Middle Eastern understanding in General, Hades was a waiting place for the dead, a place of semi or un consciousness (sleep) where dead souls went awaiting the afterlife. It was not considered to be the afterlife or next life.

Jesus descended to Hades, procalimed a message of release and lead the host of OT saints out with him when he rose from the dead. Some of them stopped off in Jerusalem on the way to heaven to have a look around (Matt27). As a result he has the keys to Hades.

But this in no way justifies the next part of your argument - that the Millenium is a myth.
