Summary

Despite occasional signals to the contrary, North Korea continues
to try to develop long-range missiles. But the regime of Kim Jong
Il finds the path to a significant breakthrough blocked - not by
U.S. efforts, but notably by the Chinese and Russian governments.
The North Korean missile program is in fact primitive and
unlikely to pose a threat to the United States anytime soon.
Washington has apparently overstated the North's capabilities in
the quest for a national missile defense.

Analysis

In recent months, North Korea has signaled it would curtail
ballistic missile development after sending ripples of fear
throughout East Asia with its 1998 missile test. Caught by
surprise, Washington seized on that test to redouble efforts to
build a national missile defense.

Late last year, Pyongyang told Russian President Vladimir Putin
it might halt development altogether in return for commercial
space-launch capabilities. In December, the regime pledged not to
test fire another long-range weapon, like the three-stage Taepo
Dong-1 that flew over Japan in 1998. In February, Pyongyang
issued a veiled threat, saying stalled talks might force it to
abandon its pledge.

Reliable intelligence indicates the regime is, in fact,
struggling to develop its missile program. North Korea continues
to assist other nations - most notably Iran, Pakistan and Syria -
by sharing propulsion and staging technology that can add range
to these nations' missiles; in exchange, Pyongyang receives hard
currency and access to certain technology. In North Korea itself,
the focus has shifted away from live tests to laboratory and
theoretical work aimed at increasing accuracy.

But the North finds itself stalled in making any significant
breakthroughs. The program is chiefly hampered, not by U.S.
pressure, but by the unwillingness of the Chinese and Russian
governments to significantly advance Pyongyang's knowledge. Both
Beijing and Moscow are withholding valuable technology. Contrary
to Central Intelligence Agency projections, the North is not
gaining significant Chinese or Russian technology.

Even if the regime chose to launch a long-range missile today, it
would have great difficulty in doing so because the entire
inventory of long-range missiles in North Korea appears to be
composed of as few as one or two weapons. The true state of the
program appears starkly primitive and incapable of a significant
breakthrough as long as China and Russia refuse to provide
significant assistance. Another test launch is unlikely. And
while the North won't abandon the program, the American fear of a
surprise strike - with little or no warning - is unfounded at the
present time.

Summary

Seoul's fledgling space program has accelerated with a move to
abandon a 1979 agreement with Washington that limited missile
development. Motivated by economic, security and nationalistic
concerns, Seoul is pursuing a highly indigenous space program -
one that could defend the peninsula while lessening Seoul's
dependency on the United States. South Korea's late entry into
Northeast Asia's space race will spur commercial competition and
may trigger increased regional missile proliferation. Ironically,
the problem may not be so much North Korea as South Korea.

Analysis

In mid-January, South Korea announced it intends to join the
Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) later this year,
allowing Seoul access to rocket technology from other MTCR
members. Two weeks later, the South Korean Ministry of Science
and Technology announced the site chosen for South Korea's new
civilian space center, an island on the coast of South Cholla
province, that will be the base for satellite launches.

Seoul's entry into the MTCR ends five years of negotiations with
Washington to release South Korea from a 1979 memorandum of
understanding governing missile development. Washington has long
feared a South Korean ballistic missile program would accelerate
missile proliferation in Northeast Asia and undermine regional
security. Rather than stem missile development in Northeast Asia,
the memorandum simply prompted South Korea to carry out a
clandestine missile program as North Korea, China, Taiwan and
Japan developed missile and rocket technology.

Surrounded by economic and strategic competitors with developed
commercial and ballistic missile programs, Seoul lobbied
intensely for an end to the restrictions and access to missile
technology from other MTCR nations. South Korea seeks
technological and economic benefits from a purely indigenous
space program, one that could eventually defend the entire
peninsula while decreasing economic and security dependency on
the United States. While South Korea's late entry into Northeast
Asia's space race has been termed a largely commercial
enterprise, ultimately it may do just what the United States has
long feared - spur regional ballistic missile development.

Why Trade and Conflict Will Mix in Latin America

Summary

President George W. Bush declined an invitation from Colombian
President Andres Pastrana to engage the United States directly in
that country's recently revived peace negotiations with the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. Bush explained that the
Colombian civil war is a matter only Colombians can resolve. But
internationalization of the Colombian peace talks will make it
impossible for Washington to keep the conflict from entangling
the U.S. agenda of free trade.

Analysis

Peace negotiations between the Colombian government and the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) will be re-launched
March 8 with the official presence of 24 Latin American, European
and Asian countries. These will include Austria, Belgium, Brazil,
Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland,
France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Peru,
Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and
Venezuela. Officials of the European Union, United Nations and
the Vatican also will participate. The United States will not
participate in the de facto internationalization of the Colombian
civil war.

On Feb. 27, President George W. Bush rejected invitations from
Colombian President Andres Pastrana and the FARC to send an
official U.S. delegation to the meeting in the FARC-controlled
town of Los Pozos in southern Colombia. Bush explained that
finding a peaceful solution for the decades-old Colombian civil
war is strictly a matter for Colombians.

The Bush administration will find it impossible, however, to keep
the Colombian conflict at arm's length while advancing a broader
hemispheric trade agenda now that peace negotiations in that
country have been internationalized. In particular, the direct
engagement of Brazil, Cuba, Mexico and Venezuela in the Colombian
government's peace negotiations with the FARC could create
obstacles to the Bush administration's intentions of placing more
emphasis on trade expansion in Latin America than on the drug war
in Colombia.

Summary

The continued intransigence on the part of Taliban officials to
ignore international calls to cease destruction of ancient
Buddhist statues masks deeper issues. The statues lie in a
strategically important area of central Afghanistan, the site of
several recent clashes between Taliban and opposition Northern
Alliance forces. More directly, however, the edict to destroy the
statues may also reveal an increasing rift between extreme and
moderate factions within the Taliban. This could ultimately open
a door for the moderate factions to advance their positions in
Afghanistan.

Analysis

A U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization special
envoy returns to Afghanistan this week to try to stop the
Taliban, which controls over 90 percent of the country, from
destroying two large Buddha statues in Bamiyan province, in
central Afghanistan. After a brief pause for the Muslim holiday
of Eid-al-Adha, the Taliban is expected to resume destruction of
the statues to fulfill a Feb. 27 edict by supreme leader Mullah
Mohammed Omar. The edict called for the destruction of all
statues and idols in Afghanistan, as they are "the gods of
infidels" and all "false gods should be removed." The Taliban's
decision to destroy the statues raised an international outcry of
opposition to the destruction of Afghanistan's cultural heritage.

The Taliban order serves several purposes. First, it positions
Taliban forces in Bamiyan in anticipation of an early spring
offensive by Northern Alliance forces. Second, it reinforces
Taliban control over all areas of Afghanistan. Finally, it
reinforces the religious aspect of the Taliban's cause amid signs
that factions within its leadership may be willing to take a more
moderate course. In the long run, the action could split the
group's leadership, as more moderate elements seek to capitalize
on the international attention and begin negotiations with
outside powers.

While deploying forces to Bamiyan to destroy statues, just ahead
of the annual Northern Alliance spring offensive, would seem to
make little sense, Bamiyan occupies a strategic location in
central Afghanistan. Lying along the main east-west road along
the central mountain range that splits Afghanistan in two,
Bamiyan represents a potential chokepoint for Taliban supplies to
its forces north of the mountain ranges. The region also offers
refuge and a launch point for anti-Taliban forces in central
Afghanistan, whereas the bulk of Northern Alliance forces are in
the north and east.

Subject: [bprlist] China pours cash into military

China pours cash into military

More money and better weapons for China's military China is planning its
biggest increase in military spending for more than a decade as it seeks to
equip its forces for the hi-tech battlefield.

The Finance Minister, Xiang Huaicheng, told delegates on the second day of
the annual session of the National People's Congress the military budget
would rise this year by 17.7% to about $17bn.

He said the increase, which is set to continue for the next five years, would
go towards higher pay and new equipment.

Western analysts say the move indicates a significant change in Chinese
strategic thinking after Nato's intervention in Kosovo, which circumvented the
United Nations Security Council, where China has a veto.

Mr Xiang said the extra defence spending was needed to "adapt to drastic
changes in the military situation of the world and prepare for defence and
combat given the conditions of modern technology, especially high
technology."

Taiwan factor

The election of Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian and India's missile
programme are also likely to have played a part in the increase.

President Chen has in the past been a firm supporter of Taiwanese
independence but China has threatened invasion should Taiwan move in that
direction.

The US is obliged under the Taiwan Relations Act to make available
sufficient arms to allow the island to defend itself.

Shrinking numbers

The ChinesePrime Minister, Zhu Rongji briefly referred to Taiwan on Monday
but his remarks sounded conciliatory compared with his blistering rhetoric of
a year ago.

He said China would pursue reunification with Taiwan, which Beijing regards
as a renegade province, but there was no actual mention of the use of force.

The Chinese military has reduced in size from about 4.2 million personnel to
about 2.5 million over the last two decades.

It has also been told by President Jiang Zemin to withdraw from its web of
business interests, but observers say the army has retained involvement.

Tracking chip will tell on you
Source: Sunday Gazette-Mail
Publication date: 2001-03-04
Arrival time: 2001-03-05

Wireless systems capable of tracking vehicles and people all over the plane=
t
are leaving businesses aglow with new possibilities, and some privacy
advocates deeply concerned. Companies seeking to tap the commercial
potential of these technologies are installing wireless location systems in
vehicles, hand-held computers, cell phones - even watchbands. Scientists
have developed a chip that can be inserted beneath the skin, so that a
person's location can be pinpointed anywhere.

One early user of this technology is David Hancock, the owner of a small
company in Dallas that installs automobile alarms. Hancock uses a wireless
tracking service to monitor his fleet of six Dodge Dakota pickup trucks, an=
d
the equipment alerted him recently when one of his trucks turned out to be
in the parking lot of the Million Dollar Saloon, a strip club.

These technologies have become one of the fastest-growing areas of the
wireless communications industry. The market for location-based services is
already estimated at nearly $600 million and is forecast to approach $5
billion within three years, according to IDC, a technology research company=
.

A federal effort to make it easier to pinpoint the location of people makin=
g
emergency 911 calls from mobile phones will mean that by next year cell
phones sold in the United States will be equipped with advanced wireless
tracking technology.

Various plans already under way include alerting cell phone users when they
approach a nearby McDonald's, telling them which items are on sale, or
sending updates to travelers about hotel vacancies or nearby restaurants
with available tables. One Florida company wants to provide parents with
wireless watchbands that they can use to keep track of their children.

But while the commercial prospects for wireless location technology may be
intriguing, and the social benefits of better mobile 911 service are
undisputed, privacy rights advocates are worried.

"By allowing location-based services to proliferate, we're opening the door
to a new realm of privacy abuses," said James X. Dempsey, senior staff
counsel for the Center for Democracy and Technology.

"What if your insurer finds out you're into rock climbing or late- night
carousing in the red-light district? What if your employer knows you're
being treated for AIDS at a local clinic? The potential is there for
inferences to be drawn about you based on knowledge of your whereabouts."

Peter Zhou helped create a chip called Digital Angel that could be implante=
d
beneath human skin, enabling his company to track the location of a person
almost anywhere using a combination of satellites and radio technology.

After all, he reasoned, wouldn't the whereabouts of an Alzheimer's patient
be important to relatives? Wouldn't the government want to keep track of
paroled convicts? Wouldn't parents want to know where their children are at
10 p.m., or 11 p.m. or any hour of the day?

A review of Digital Angel's commercial potential, though, revealed concern
over the potential for privacy abuses. So Zhou, the chief scientist for
Applied Digital Solutions, a company in Palm Beach, Fla., that makes
embedded devices for tracking livestock, altered his plans for Digital
Angel, which is about the size of a dime, so that instead of being
implanted, it could be affixed to a watchband or a belt.

"Embedding technology in people is too controversial," said Zhou.

Nadav Shragai: Jerusalem must be liberated again

Ha'aretz 6 March 2001

In the midst of the first Intifada, then-police commissioner David Kraus
called a meeting of senior Israeli police commanders and - in what later
turned out to be an amalgam of naivete and a little pathos - declared, "What
we are about to do is to liberate Jerusalem again." At the time, Israelis
thought the situation could not get any worse: Traveling by vehicle through
East Jerusalem was a real problem, as rocks and Molotov cocktails were being
hurled at them. However, firearms were not being used.In the reality of
March 2001, the "reliberation of Jerusalem" is an infinitely more difficult
task. Nonetheless, responsibility for attaining that goal cannot be shirked
by Jews, especially by Prime Minister-elect Ariel Sharon, who presented his
vision of a united Jerusalem as an antithesis to the plan for partitioning
the city that had been agreed to by outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Barak.

The most important asset that Israel has lost in East Jerusalem is control
of security matters in that part of the city. Palestinian security services
and the "civilian" police of the governor of East Jerusalem, Jamil Othman
(also known as Abu Nasser), who was appointed to this post by the
Palestinian Authority (PA) and whose offices are in Abu Dis, operate in East
Jerusalem almost openly. East Jerusalem's Arab residents regard these
agencies as the "law" and as having the same status as - usually, higher
status than - the Israeli police.

Operating in parallel to Israeli security services and law-enforcement
agencies in East Jerusalem is a comprehensive security and law-enforcement
mechanism that is being run by the Palestinians and which engages in a
variety of activities: Intelligence work, abductions, interrogations,
bodyguard services, arbitration and patrols. Any Arab East Jerusalemite who
dares to ask for the assistance of the Israeli police is invariably
threatened by the representatives of this Palestinian police-cum-security
mechanism. According to the assessment of Israeli security experts, it is
just a question of time before the active collaboration of the PA's security
services in the violence unfolding on the West Bank and in the Gaza Strip
spreads to Jerusalem. The two recent shooting incidents at the French Hill
intersection corroborate this evaluation.

However, even if the anticipated collaboration of PA security services in
terrorist activities directed against Israelis does not materialize, the
time has arrived, so it would seem, to once again draw the boundary lines
between what is permissible and what is not in Jerusalem. There is no
possible justification for making peace with the PA's present security
operations in that city. From the formal standpoint, these operations are a
violation of agreements that Israel has signed with the PA. Even the
cooperative relationship in the field of intelligence between Palestinian
and Israeli security services - a relationship that, from the very
beginning, probably did not justify the price (namely, the erosion of
Israeli sovereignty in East Jerusalem) - has deteriorated in quality. And
that is definitely an underestimate.

The removal of Palestinian security services from East Jerusalem will be no
easy task. However, it must be done if the vision of a reunification of
Jerusalem is to be realized. It is absurd for a single capital city to have
two parallel police forces, two parallel internal security agencies and two
parallel intelligence mechanisms. The thousands of individuals carrying out
police and security work on behalf of the PA in East Jerusalem must not be
allowed to continue these activities any further. If their continued
presence would make it futile for Israel to attempt to put a halt to their
work, then they must be removed from this part of the city, even at the cost
of curfews, closures and encirclement in Jerusalem itself.

In the final analysis, even Arab East Jerusalemite - many of whom are
frightened to death at the prospect of living under PA jurisdiction - would
actually be grateful if Israel were to take such actions. Nonetheless, the
carrying out of this difficult task cannot be an isolated operation. Barak
and outgoing Public Security Minister and Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami
gave broad hints of their plans for partitioning Jerusalem well before they
led the government to decide on dividing up the city. As early as last
summer, it became evident that the Barak government had stopped transferring
funds for the development of infrastructures and services in East Jerusalem.
This was a dramatic about-face, in stark contrast with the policies of the
government headed by Barak's predecessor, Benjamin Netanyahu, which - after
years of deprivation and neglect - increased by several hundred percentage
points the financial allocations to East Jerusalem.

The Barak government's freeze on cash transfers to East Jerusalem delivered
an obvious message to each of its Arab residents: "Dear resident of East
Jerusalem, Israel's presence in East Jerusalem is temporary and, thus, it is
not in Israel's interests to invest in you."

A month before it was toppled, the Netanyahu government made a series of
wise decisions regarding East Jerusalem. The Sharon government now has all
the time in the world to implement them. This is a far easier task than
banishing Jibril Rajoub, head of preventive security for the PA on the West
Bank, and his personnel. All that the Sharon cabinet has to do is to pave
roads, install street lamps and sewage systems, and set up public parks - in
short, to begin acting as if East Jerusalem were really under Israeli
sovereignty.

Finally - or perhaps it should be said: To begin with - Israel owes it to
itself to make a major effort to change the situation on the Temple Mount.
What is taking place today there delivers an ethical and moral message not
only to the Palestinian population in the territories but also to the Jewish
population in the Land of Israel. Israel cannot continue to put up with the
ban on visits by Jews to the Temple Mount. The government has the tools
(which have been used before) to force the Waqf (Moslem Religious Trust) and
the PA to open the gates of the Temple Mount to non-Muslims as well as to
Muslims. For example, the government has the authority to prevent Muslims
from entering the Temple Mount.

The Antiquities Authority must also return to the Temple Mount in order to
stop the continued destruction of the antiquities there. What has been
happening over the past few months on the Temple Mount should make all
intelligent persons indignant, especially Jews, when the relics of the
Jewish past are slowly but surely being erased at Judaism's holiest site.
The exercising of the right of Jews to pray on the Temple Mount can be
delayed for awhile - until a new reality has stabilized itself there. Israel
must adopt a unique policy toward the Temple Mount, which is part of the
time-honored traditions of a nation whose existence has been molded and
protected by Jerusalem, rather than the other way around. This heritage
compels Israel to teach the love of Jerusalem even in the nation's schools.
The Palestinians have no qualms about expressing love for their Zion; there
is certainly no reason why Jews should hide the love they feel for theirs.

3. New hormone developed by Israeli scientists restores fertility to
cancer patients
(BNI-MAR.6) Technion and Rambam Hospital researchers have developed a
new
hormone-blocking procedure that restores fertility to women who underwent
chemotherapy for cancer, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Reproductive endocrinologist Dr. Ze'ev Blumenfeld said that the toxicity
of cancer chemotherapy agents often leads to sterility in women; however,
in the new procedure, the patient's reproductive system is preserved in a
state of temporary "pre-pubescent stasis," thus enabling women to conceive
after chemotherapy ends.

His team found they could simulate the "pre-pubertal hormonal" stage and
protect ovarian function by administering a natural hormone called

(BNI-MAR.6) IMRA: This is NOT a parody - this article actually claims

founder of the religion of Islam, the Prophet Muhammad, was born 500

Recent study reveals: Al-Haram Al-Sharif's western wall is not the Wailing
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 3/5/2001
http://www.arabicnews.com/ansub/Daily/Day/010305/2001030524.html

An Egyptian study uncovered that the western wall of A1-Haram Al-Sharif is
the Buraq Wall, not the Wailing as the Jews allege to justify
establishment of their state in Palestine.

Contained in a book issued recently by the Ain Shams University's Middle
East Research Center, the study says 95% of Jews are not Israelites but
rather foreigners of mixed races as referred to by British anthropologist
James Fenton's 1966 paper.

It is illogical that there are any antiquities belonging to Prophets
beneath Al-Aqsa Mosque, said the study, noting that Al Aqsa Mosque was
built 2,000 years before Prophet Solomon and remained so until this day.

Prophets act according to heavenly revelations and hence it is
unacceptable to claim that one Prophet had destroyed a place built by
another before him in order to build a temple.

Resolutions of the international Shaw Committee, issued in the aftermath
of the Buraq Intifada in 1928 under the Swedish Foreign Minister then,
pointed out that no traces of stones remaining from the Temple of Solomon
were found in the Western Wall.

Surprisingly enough, the Jews did not claim possession of this wall as all
that they demanded is the recognition of their rights to have access to
the wall to pray before it according to their rituals, added the study.

10. High Court rejects petitions to cancel Deri Law
(BNI-MAR.6) The High Court of Justice on Monday brought the controversial
Deri Law one step closer to implementation on Monday in rejected two
petitions aimed at blocking the new legislation.

The law provides for prisoners to be released after serving one-half of
their term instead of the current system that wipes off one-third of a
sentence.

Meretz MK Yossi Sarid and Labor MK Ofir Pines presented the first petition
to the court. The petition called upon the court to declare the stormy
session and third reading vote on the bill invalid. The court decided that
despite the controversy that surrounded the vote on the bill, it was legal
and binding, rejecting the petition.

The second petition was presented by the Movement for Quality in
Government, calling for an order delaying implementation of the new law
until guidelines may be established and the new legislation can be
studied. The petition maintained there were currently too many loopholes
in the law as it stands. The Office of the State Prosecutor supported the
position. Nevertheless, the court rejected the petition but advised parole

the bill is regulated.

The law bars immigrants who have converted to Judaism from bringing
non-Jewish family members into the country. The new regulation is expected
to decrease the number of new immigrants by fifty percent.

The regulation went into effect several days ago following an order to do
so by State Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein.

13. IDF Chief Education Officer Stern under attack
(BNI-MAR.6) IDF Chief Education Officer Brigadier-General Elazar Stern
stated that the IDF should consider delaying the drafting of persons
undergoing conversion until they have completed the process and are Jewish.

Stern came under sharp attack but denied remarks attributed to him and
derogatory remarks against non-Jewish soldiers. He did add however that
there is an increase in the number of soldiers requesting to take the oath
of allegiance on the New Testament; a fact which he explains weakens their
link to the Jewish people, the nation and the military.

National Religious Party Member of Knesset Zevulun Orlev stated that there
was reason to suspect the allegations are being leveled against Stern
because he is an Orthodox Jew identified with the National Religious camp.

If I may opine a bit on your posting, since I have not yet solidified my own
definitive position the major topics in your opening three sentences (three
sentences, I might add, that can have the same effect as tossing a Molotov
cocktail to the midst of a fireworks factory) and I don't totally agree with
any of the pigeon-holed schools of thought which are labeled 'this or that',
so that with a sling of a label all of your positions on everything,
supposedly, are neatly tied up with a bow. I would subscribe to the thought
that if someone tells you that we are definitely, without a doubt, NOT going
to see the tribulation in our lifetimes that that person is quagmired in some
precarious prophetic/theological quicksand. At least the group in your posting
had the where-with-all to use "the tribulation COULD start in our lifetime"
instead of WILL or WON'T. I cannot resolve the issue of a rapture before the
tribulation (watch out!!! here comes the labels) with the following
scriptures. I am still searching for answers. It would be worth noting, as
food for thought, that God did not spare the Israelites from all the plagues
imposed on Egypt. I have heard lines of thought that the following passages
may refer to converts that take place in and during the tribulation after the
Church has been raptured ( rapture, raptures, raptured - none of which will you
find in your NAS exhaustive concordance, yeah, I'm aware the 'clouds'
passage), but I cannot be certain from my understanding of the scriptures that
this is the case. Especially Rev 20:4, you can't receive a mark if you left
the earth a few years earlier, and I find it doubtful any one not saved will
reign with Christ a thousand years by virtue of refusing the mark. If you have
any special enlightenment, I surely would like to hear it, as I continue to
search for complex answers in a complex ( to me, anyway) text, that is,
Revelation.
In Christian Love, Shophar_Sho_Good

Passages from Revelation to which I struggle on supporting a pre-trib
'rapture' :

6:11 And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told
that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their
fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had
been, would be completed also.

7:14 I said to him, ""My lord, you know.'' And he said to me, ""These are the
ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes
and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

9:4 They were told not to hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing,
nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the seal of God on their
foreheads.

13:7 It was also given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome
them, and authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation was
given to him.

13:10 If anyone is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; if anyone
kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is the
perseverance and the faith of the saints.

20:4 Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to
them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their
testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not
worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their
forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for
a thousand years.

From: <owner-bpr@philologos.org>

Good morning guys,

Anyone interested in sharing their top 3 favorite books (dealing with biblical
matters -- no harlequin romance type stuff in other words :-)) with the list? I
would like to put them on our BPR Reference Guide website if possible.

Moza's list is below. I haven't put mine together yet (not sure I can narrow it
down to just three to be honest. But since I limited Moza to three, guess I
have to play by the same rules. :-)).

Feel free to send your "Top 3 Fav List" to the bprlist with a sentence or two
on why it's your fav. I would love to see what some other folks recommend
and enjoy reading. Thanks for your participation!

_____________

Moza's Top 3 Fav List:

Cracking the Bible Code
Jeffrey Satinover
If you'd like to know the background of the recent popularity of Bible
Codes, this is a must read. This is no dry recounting of statistics but
a living, breathing history made up of interesting characters and their
equally interesting findings.

The Coming Last Days Temple
Randall Price
One of the best books ever written on the Temple--both its history and
future. Very timely and thorough. I don't think there's any question you
could have regarding the Temple that this book couldn't answer.

The God-Code and Creation
Jonathan Lawton Hammond
I have read and reread the sections on the patterns of "God's numbers"
found within the periodic table, light and DNA many, many times and
still find it fascinating. Woven throughout the universe the Author has
left tantalizing clues of His existence and this book will help you
uncover some of the details.

Hi everyone,

Sure, ok. I'll play along. ;-)

These are some of my favs, although I can't say for sure that they are my top
three (it *was* hard to choose. I see now what cruel torture I put upon
Moza!). I find that usually the last good book I've read tends to be my fav.
But here it goes:

Top 3 Fav List:

1. The Parable of Joy
by Michael Card.
I read this book several years ago, and every time I pass by my bookshelf and
see it sitting there it brings a smile to my face as I remember certain parts of it.
While Card is mostly known for his singing and music talents, his writing
talent is by no means lacking. Using his own literal translation from the Greek
he expounds upon the text of John with footnotes and very imaginative
commentary. Card's "creative analysis" will at times make you feel as though
you are reading a novel that you wish would never end. Now that I've gotten
your interest piqued, I have to mention that I believe the book is no longer in
print. Truly unfortunate, but perhaps you find it in a book store somewhere.
If you do find it, grab it.

2. In the Footsteps of Jesus
by Bruce Marchiano
I just recently read this book and I don't know if it's the book I enjoyed so
much or if it was the whole experience (of which I'm still involved in and
enjoying) of watching and then reading about the Visual Entertainment Video
titled "Matthew: The Visual Bible." Marchiano is the actor that played Jesus
in the video and his insights and experiences were truly inspirational. I truly
believe every family should have this video. And once you've watched it
several times, you'll want to read this book as well to get a behind the scenes
look. Instead of taking your family out to the movies on Friday nights, stay at
home, save your money and then go and buy this video & book.

3. Roanoke: The Lost Colony
by Angela Elwell Hunt
This is a fictional book (first of a series) based on the true accounts of the
founding of City of Roanoke in the "New World." I used to think reading
fictional books was a waste of time. Fortunately, a friend convinced me
otherwise or else I probably wouldn't have read this book. Hunt is a Christian
author and in this particular series she writes about the hardships and faith of
the English settlers as they arrived on new soil. Truly wonderful reading!

Only three fav's? (gasp... gulp - but I've got at least twenty, all topically organised....Broad smile....). Well here goes!

An oldie but a goodie. A rare treasure, well worth zealous hunting down in secondhand bookshops. Exactly what it's subtitle says, 'A thorough and comprehensive study of what the Bible has to say concerning the great doctrines of which it treats' :
"What the Bible Teaches" R.A.Torrey. Oliphants Ltd. London 2nd impression 1960.

A current printing. Something to seriously set the devil back in his current-day end-game attacks on the Kingdom and the Believers:
"Shattering Your Strongholds", Liberty Savard, Bridge-Logos Publ, ISBN 0-88270-713-2
First work in a powerful trilogy.

Lastly, a wonderful prayer tutorial and inspirational coach to those seeking a close communion with their Lord, and some changes in their world. Everyone I ever loaned one of my copies to has subsequently purchased their own. It's THAT good. And yes I keep more than one. The good news needs spreading (grin):
"Intercessory Prayer", by Dutch Sheets, publ Regal Books. ISBN 0-8307-1900-8

Enjoy.
Great idea!
Pastor John.

Dear bibliophiles,

I love my NASB Open Bible, but my CD Rom Bible is better: Is that a book?

Along with that I enjoy very much Jeremiah Burrough's The Precious Jewel of
Christian Contentment.

Easy reading: God in the Dock a compilation of C.S. Lewis essays and, the
devotional: My Utmost for His Hightest by Oswald Chambers.

I'm a simple person.

Yours in Christ,
JaneB
