Seems like an odd way to put things, a "Jewish" scripture, and a "Christian"
scripture.
I wonder which scripture Christ used? Which scripture was Paul and the early
Christian church using?

I know those who practice Judaism, do not reqonize the authority of the New
Testament.
However, about the only difference between our Old Testament and theirs is
the order the books are arranged in.

For those that may be interested, Dr David Stern has published "The Complete
Jewish Bible" which includes the New Testament. Dr Stern is a Christian of
"Jewish" descent, and is reqonized as an authority on the early Hebrew
languages.

His Book is listed at Amazon.com, and some Christian book stores, it is well
worth the effort to read.

May GOD bless,
Steven Sykes

Dear Steve, Charlie, et al,

Wasn't the moon god the major god worshiped in Ur of the Chaldes at the time
that Abraham left.

Wondering how far back this dispute goes,

Just thought you might get a kick out of this. I am not a believer in beings from other planets, ghosts or such. But I do believe in angels, fallen angels and demons.

Mexico's" Zone of Silence?
____________________________
There exist a number of "accursed sites" on the surface of our planet.
Some of these locations are the sites of gravitational or atmospheric
disturbances that still remain unexplained by twentieth century science.
Such anomalous areas possess properties which interfere sporadically
with humans and their equipment.
One area worthy of mention surrounds the Mediterranean island of Elba
(famous for being Napoleon's first place of exile), and is the bane of
maritime aviation in the Mediterranean; another spot is Mt. Stredohori
in Czechoslovakia, where an unknown force drains car engines of power
throughout the length of a 75-foot stretch of road.

However, we need not travel so far to encounter a part of the world that
is even more perplexing than these others, although it remains little
known to most people: Mexico's mysterious, magical zona del
silencio--the Zone of Silence, just four hundred miles away from El
Paso, Texas. Deserts are often considered to be mysterious enough
without the added weirdness that this patch of earth some four hundred
miles from El Paso has to offer. It is a place which gobbles up radio
and TV signals, and which has of late been associated with the UFO
phenomenon.

Centuries of Mystery

According to Dr. Santiago Garcia, there has been an awareness of the
unusual properties of the area since the mid-nineteenth century, when
farmers trying to eke out a living in the forbidding environment became
aware of the "hot pebbles" which routinely fell to earth from the clear
sky. In the 1930s, Francisco Sarabia, an aviator from the northern
Mexican state of Coahuila, reported that his radio had mysteriously
ceased to function, earning him the distinction of being the Zone of
Silence's first victim.

Nonetheless, it wasn't until 1970 that the zone first entered public
awareness when an American missile, an Athena, fired from the White
Sands Missile Base, went off course inexplicably, heading for the Zone
of Silence, where it ultimately crashed. A few years later, an upper
stage from one of the Saturn boosters used on the Apollo project broke
up over the very same area. The U.S, military sent a team down to the
region to investigate its surprising natural
properties.

Engineer Harry de la Pena was the first outsider to discover the zone
and its perplexing radio interference properties. Humans have been
resided in and around the scrub and cactus filled desert area since
Prehistoric times, when an unknown tribe of natives clustered around a
watering hole which is still in existence. The community of Ceballos,
Durango, some 25 miles away, is the settlement nearest to the zone, and
it is the starting point of any venture into its unreal atmosphere. The
visitor will find vast expanses of flat terrain,
pinpointed with thorny desert bushes and infested with poisonous snakes.
No different from any other desert in that respect.

Pena and his group became aware of the "silence" when they found that it
was impossible to communicate with one another via walkie-talkies: radio
waves are not transmitted at the accustomed speed and frequency.
Portable radios would emit but the lightest whisper when turned on at
full volume. To this day, television signals cannot be received in
Ceballos or in the neighboring ranches. Some magnetic force, with the
power to dampen radio waves, seems to exist in the
region.

Since the engineer's initial visit, scientists from around the world
have visited the zone, flocking to the research facility erected at its
very heart by the Mexican government. The zone's somewhat foreboding
name has been changed to Mar de Tetys--The Sea of Thetys, due to the
fact that it was once under water millions of years ago--and the
research lab has been dubbed the "biosphere".

Curiously enough, the zone lies just north of the Tropic of Cancer and
south of the 30th parallel, which places it in the company of a number
of other planetary anomalies such as the Bermuda Triangle. UFOs and the
presence of nonhuman life have been recorded in this anomalous region.
Until a few years ago, there were people still alive who could remember
having had encounters with allegedly extraterrestrial creatures in the
early decades of this century.

Close Encounters

On October 13, 1975, Ernesto and Josefina Diaz, an enterprising couple,
drove into the zone in a brand new Ford pickup to collect unusual rocks
and fossils which can be found in great abundance. As they busied
themselves in their activity, they noticed that a desert rainstorm was
heading toward them. Hoping to avoid being caught in a flash flood, they
wisely packed their vehicle up and sped off, but not fast enough to
avoid the relentless rain: the track ahead of
them turned into a swamp: the pickup was quickly trapped and began to
sink in the soft terrain.

While the couple struggled to keep their vehicle from submerging into
the mud, two figures approached them, waving at them amid the torrential
rain. Two extremely tall men in yellow raincoats and caps, with unusual
but by no means alarming features, offered their assistance to help them
get underway again. The men instructed the totally drenched couple to
get inside the pickup again while
they pushed. Before the couple realized, their vehicle had popped out of
the hole and on to firmer ground.

When the husband got out of the pickup once more to thank the two men,
he realized they were gone. There were no footprints in evidence or any
surface feature that could have concealed their departure.

Travelers crossing the zone regularly report seeing strange lights or
fireballs maneuvering at night, changing colors, hanging motionless and
then taking off at great speed. Two ranchers heading back from a
festivity witnessed how a coruscant light floated down from the dark sky
and disgorged humanoid occupants, who glowed with the same eerie light
and were walking toward them. The ranchers broke into a frantic run.

Physical traces of these nocturnal visits can be found. One witness
returned one morning to the site where he had seen the mysterious lights
cavorting the previous night, and found that the scrub vegetation "had
been set on fire". Dozens of similar reports emerge from the zone, told
by reliable witnesses.

Dr. Santiago Garcia, who has devoted much of his life to the
investigation of this anomalous region, has speculated that some of
lights seen by the residents could well be from a roving vehicle left
behind by the U.S. military, recharging its solar cells by day and
conducting furtive analytical missions under cover of darkness. Garcia
points out that when the Air Force came to collect the Athena missile's
wreckage, they took along several truckloads of desert sand for
analysis. There is the widespread belief that huge deposits of
magnetite exist in the area, and that this iron ore is responsible for
the dampening of electromagnetic waves. It has also been proven that
considerable deposits of uranium exist in the mountains ranges fencing
the Zone of Silence. In 1976, a visitor to the region took the first
photograph ever of a UFO landed near a topographic feature known as
"Magnet Hill" by the locals. The photos clearly show a shiny silver
object resembling a large stewing pot. The lucky shutterbug was able to
take more shots of the UFO as it rose upward with
a roar, disappearing toward the west.

Yet not all of the "extraterrestrial" visitors have been as elusive. The
staff of a small local ranch was visited regularly by three tall, blond,
long- haired visitors--two males and one female--who were described as
being polite to a fault, extremely handsome and dressed "in a funny
way". Their Spanish was flawless and had a musical ring to it.

The reason for these visits was to secure water from the ranch's well:
the "funny" visitors would ask their hosts to please fill their canteens
with water, never requesting food or anything else. When asked where
they came from, the visitors would limit themselves to smiling and
saying "from above." Could these visitors be the "nordic" types referred
to by ufologists? Spanish researcher Antonio Ribera described similar
"Blonds" operating in the vicinity of Rosellon,
in the Pyrenees, where they would only trouble their human hosts for
bread and milk, paying for them with gold nuggets. Almost white-haired
"nordics" were reported along the Sierra Nevada, in California, were
they would come down to barter with townspeople every so often. There
exists a connection of sorts between certain enigmatic deserts and these
angel-like creatures.

No experience in the Zone of Silence is easily forgotten, and journalist
Luis Ramirez Reyes will almost certainly never forget his own. During
the month of November of 1978, Ramirez visited the Zone as part of a
news team assigned to cover a story on the bizarre site.

Choosing to go ahead of the main team, Ramirez and his photographer
charged into the desert, navigating by intuition rather than by hard
knowledge of where their final destination was located: the "biosphere"
constructed by the Mexican government, a laboratory dedicated to
investigating the unusual biological life forms found in the area and to
conducting psychic research.

No closer to their target than when their reckless impulse drove them
into the wasteland, Ramirez became painfully aware that he lacked water
or the provisions necessary to survive in this hostile environment
should they become hopelessly lost. Having reached a "Y" intersection in
the unpaved desert road, they had chosen the wrong one.

Suddenly, he noticed that there were three figures walking up ahead,
coming toward them. Hoping that these locals might be able to point them
toward the biosphere, the journalist told his companion, who was doing
the driving, to slow down to talk to them. He was startled when the
driver passed them by, as if not having seen them.

Ramirez began wondering if the desert hadn't gotten to him already. The
trio were ordinary people, clad in the outfits usually worn by the
inhabitants of that part of the country. As they drove along, he
experienced the shock of running into them again--in a different part of
the desert! Sternly ordering the photographer (who couldn't see anyone
at all) to stop the car , Ramerez got his chance to speak to the three
locals. He asked them if they had seen another vehicle like theirs in
the area. They said that they hadn't, but that if they
drove cross country amid the rocky desert terrain of the "Sea of Thetys"
they would reach the biosphere. The three locals claimed to be out
looking for some stray animals of theirs, but they had no water bottles
or other gear that would indicate that they were able to survive in the
menacing terrain.

After completing the cross-country trek, both men were relieved to find
the structure of the biosphere rising in the distance. Upon arriving,
and meeting up with their team, they discussed their unusual encounter
in the desert with Harry de la Pena. In a sobering tone, Pena told them
that there were no people in the desert who weren't part of the
biosphere team and certainly no flocks for
peasants to look for. An aerial survey in later days convinced the
investigator of the utter desolation of the region that stretched for
hundreds of miles. But if they weren't people, what were they?

"Nordic" visitors and other humanoids are not the only kind reported in
the region. There have been sightings of oddly clad beings only a few
feet in height as well. Ruben Lopez, driving through the zone one night
in a van on his way to visit to a relative in Ceballos, noticed that his
vehicle's engine began to sputter. This troubled him no end, as he had
recently serviced the van. Abruptly, he became aware of five small
figures that were standing along the roadside some hundred feet ahead.
Lopez believed at first that they were lost children, until he noticed
that they wore unusual silver one-piece outfits.

The little beings' heads were covered by helmets resembling those used
by football players. Through the helmets' open front, Lopez could tell
that they had adult faces. They approached the stalled van with
curiosity, filling the driver with genuine fear: Lopez raced the van's
engine in neutral, which caused the dwarfs to scatter into the desert
darkness. The van continued functioning normally after the creatures had
vanished.

The Archeological Enigma

The extremely ancient ruins in the Zone of Silence pose another
disquieting enigma of their own. Archaeologists have been unable to
determine their age, but they undoubtedly form an astronomical
observatory thousands of years old. There is no connection between this
Mexican Stonehenge and the primitive tribes that clustered around the
watering hole which constitutes an oasis in the
arid region. At some point in antiquity, someone was quite active in the
Zone.

Perhaps they were interested, as are modern astronomers and geologists,
in the large number of small meteorites that are attracted to the Zone's
magnetic properties.

A meteorite that crashed in Chihuahua in the late 1950s contained
crystalline structures that far outdated the Solar System itself.
Researcher Luis Maeda Villalobos concluded that the meteorite contains
"material as old as the Universe": Our solar system is some 6 billion
years old, while the meteorite's age has been estimated at 13 billion
years.

Whether we are dealing with UFOs, dimensional visitors who find the
magnetic aberrations facilitate their journeys, or merely a poorly
understood part of our world with unsuspected properties, no easy
answers apply to the riddle posed by the Zone of Silence. The builders
of the mysterious ruined observatory would have probably agreed.

Syria Seeks Sharon's Isolation At Summit
Syria was seeking a "firm-and-biding position" by the Arab leaders, meeting
in Jordan next week, to politically isolate Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon,
a Syrian source said Thursday. The source told United Press International
that Damascus would push in the direction of the Arab summit in Amman
adopts a biding position that would raise up to the collective responsibility.
Especially for "isolating Sharon and exposing him at the international level by
reminding about his terrorist past." The source recalled that the Arab summit
in Egypt in 1996 adopted measures to confront then-Israeli Prime Minister
Binyamin Netanyahu, but the measures, including a boycott of Israel, were
not biding and so often not upheld. UPI

Syria, Turkey Launch New Cooperation
Syria and Turkey are planning to launch new spheres for cooperation. The
latest area is agriculture. Turkish Agriculture Minister Husnu Yusuf Gokalp
arrives in Damascus next week to discuss cooperation ventures with Syria.
He has been invited by his Syrian counterpart, Assad Mustapha. The Turkish
ministry said Ankara and Damascus will sign a technical, scientific and
cooperation on agriculture during Gokalp's visit. The visit begins on March 25
and will last five days. MENL

Peres Tells King Abdullah: Terror Coming From PA
Forty percent of Palestinian terror attacks are taking place with the
knowledge or participation of the Palestinian Authority's security apparatus,
Foreign Minister Shimon Peres told Jordan's King Abdullah in a telephone
conversation a short time ago. Peres spoke with Abdullah about the recent
terror attacks on Israeli targets.

Abdullah responded by saying that he will do everything in his power to help
bring an end to the six-month period of violence in the territories and to return
Israel and the Palestinians to the negotiating table. Peres has been
contacting world leaders in efforts to publicize the PA's increasing role in
terror attacks on Israelis.

Israel's ambassador in Cairo, Zvi Mazel, requested today from the Egyptian
deputy foreign minister Mohammed El Ourabi that his country get involved in
efforts to eliminate acts of Palestinian terror emanating from the territories.

Bin Laden Plays Peacemaker
Saudi terrorism-suspect Osama bin Laden is playing the role of peacemaker,
mediating between the Taliban and their Afghan Mujahideen rivals, Taliban
and opposition officials said Thursday. They said that accepting bin Laden's
advice, the Taliban chief Mullah Omer agreed to meet prominent opposition
leader Gulbadin Hekmatyar. They were expected to meet at one of bin
Laden's secret bases.

Officials in Hekmatyar's Hezb-e-Islami Party said bin Laden had been trying
to arrange a truce between the groups for some time. They said Hekmatyar
was also willing to meet Omer. A former prime minister of his country, like
the Taliban, Hekmatyar has enjoyed good relations with the Arab militants
fighting against the Russians in Afghanistan.

He also had good relations with all the three countries that recognize the
Taliban regime: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Hekmatyar fell out with them when he joined the government of former
Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani who is recognized as Afghanistan's
legitimate ruler by the United Nations. When Taliban captured Kabul in 1996,
Hekmatyar joined the opposition Northern Alliance with Rabbani and went to
live in Iran which backs the rebel forces against the Taliban. UPI

Horror in Spain at Girls Who Killed Friend For Kicks
Raquel and Iria, teenage girls from the southern Spanish city of Cadiz,
wanted to find out what it would feel like to kill someone. So they lured their
16-year-old friend Clara Garcia to a patch of wasteland, persuaded her to
close her eyes for a "surprise" and stabbed her 18 times with a kitchen knife.
Then they went out drinking with friends.

Spaniards have looked on aghast at the trial of the girls, who are aged 16
and 17. Yesterday they were sentenced to eight years of youth custody.

Neither has shown remorse for the murder, in May last year. They had
sought, and found, the thrills of murder and the fame that came with it, they
told police.

Clara, a friend who previously shared their taste for black, gothic clothing and
the horror stories of Dean Koontz, had simply been the easiest victim they
could think of. She had been spending less time with them since finding a
boyfriend and they claimed she had become "weak" and "normal".

Clara, whose body was found in the morning by her boyfriend, had bled to
death. Police, who knew she had arranged to meet her friends, found the
knife and blood-stained clothing at the homes of the two girls, whose full
names cannot be revealed because they were minors at the time of the
crime. guardian

Foot-and-Mouth Spreads To Ireland
The first outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease has been confirmed in the
Republic of Ireland. It becomes the fourth European country infected by the
livestock virus since the first cases came to light in Britain just over a month
ago. The other nations affected are the Netherlands and France.

There have also been reports of suspected cases in Germany and Italy,
where a flock of goats has been quarantined near Pisa.

In the UK, where the number of cases has risen to 480, the Prime Minister
Tony Blair was heckled by angry farmers on a visit to the worst-hit region,
Cumbria. Two samples taken from a flock of sheep at Proleek, near
Ravensdale, in Ireland's County Louth, close to the border with Northern
Ireland, have tested positive for foot-and-mouth.

On Wednesday, 138 sheep were slaughtered there as a precautionary
measure against the disease. All animals within three miles of the infected
farm will also be slaughtered. The outbreak has been connected to Northern
Ireland's only confirmed case of the disease at Meigh in south Armagh.

"This is a major disappointment, given the intensity of efforts of all sections
of society here to keep the disease out of Ireland," said Irish Prime Minister
Bertie Ahern. BBC

Measles Kills 45 in India; May Be New Type
A "mystery disease'' that killed 45 and made 66 people ill last month in the
town of Siliguri, in West Bengal, India, has been identified as the measles
virus, say the researchers at the National Institute of Communicable
Diseases (NICD), New Delhi. "Measles was not on our list of investigations
and the clinical picture that we were getting was very different from that of
measles,'' Dr. K.K. Dutta, director of NICD, told Reuters Health. In mid-
January a prisoner was admitted to a private hospital in Siliguri who later
developed encephalitis--inflammation of the brain--and died. Five people died
of encephalitis in the first week of February and then there was a lull, say
NICD researchers. Around February 18th, a large number of cases were
reported around Medinova Hospital. More than 8 staffers of the hospital were
affected in a single day. Reuters Health

Dead Stars Could Be 'Missing Mass'
Astronomers have identified swarms of dead stars they think could form part
of the mysterious and unseen component of the Universe referred to as dark
matter.

Only a few percent of the mass of the cosmos can be directly observed. The
rest - the "missing mass" - is detectable only because of its gravitational
influence on the objects we can see.

Now, a detailed analysis of images of a selected region of the southern sky
has revealed 38 previously unseen white-dwarf stars, believed to be part of an
extensive halo of old stellar objects enveloping our Milky Way galaxy.

These cosmic cinders, although hot, are little bigger than the Earth and are
therefore not easy to detect. But if, as now seems likely, these objects are
spread evenly throughout the halo, they could account for 3-35% of the
missing mass. BBC

"Vampire-Woman" Bites 5 in Berlin
A crazed young woman claiming to be a blood-thirsty vampire ran amok in a
Berlin street and bit five people before being arrested, Bild newspaper
reported Thursday. The pretty blonde, screaming that she wanted their blood,
mostly bit her victims in the neck or on the ear. Police said she was placed
in psychiatric care. AFP

An Alert Level 3 remains in effect at the Mayon Volcano. It was raised to
Level 3 on January 25th. An Alert Level 3 means that there is an increased
tendency towards eruption. PHIVOLCS warned that instrumental and visual
observations at the Mayon Volcano suggest an eruption may occur in the
coming weeks. The lava dome is growing at the summit and has overlapped
the pre-existing SE rim of the summit crater. From 15-19 March, 10-37 low-
frequency earthquakes were recorded daily.

Volcanic activity is continuing at the Merapi Volcano. Hot lava avalanches
continue to enter the rivers in the area. Pyroclastic flows traveled ~2.75 km
down several rivers. Superficial earthquakes dominated the seismicity. On 10
March, it was noted that high-pressure fumaroles appear on most of the
dome's surface. Merapi remains at Alert Level 2.

March which rose to 8.8 km.

Pet birds may harbour killer flu

                         Weekend News Today

Fri Mar 23,2001 -- A team from the National Institute of Animal Health in
Tsukuba, Japan, found that Indian ring-necked parakeets pose a possible
danger, as they could trigger a deadly mass outbreak of flu, scientists have
warned. The researchers discovered that the birds harbour avian flu viruses
closely related to the strain that killed 6 people in Hong Kong in 1997. New
Scientist magazine reports that the scientists examined birds that died after
being imported to Japan from Pakistan. The viruses that they discovered are
also able to infect chickens and mice. They were of the H9N2 variety, a type
of bird flu that infected two people in Hong Kong in 1999 and five people in
China last year. H9N2 causes only mild symptoms in people and is not a
threat in its existing form.

However, it is very closely related to a much more lethal strain, H5N1. This
strain normally infects chickens. But in Hong Kong in the summer of 1997, it
jumped directly to humans. A total of 18 people were infected, and 6 of them
were killed, including a 3 yr. old boy. The outbreak prompted the mass
slaughter of millions of chickens in Hong Kong's open-air markets to quickly
contain the virus. Dr Terrence Tumpey, of the US Department of Agriculture
in Athens, Georgia, told New Scientist that the H9N2 virus could cause a
serious outbreak in humans if it mutates or mixes with more virulent
influenza A strains such as H5N1. Masaji Mase, who led the Japanese
research, says countries that trade in pet birds should adopt quarantine and
surveillance procedures.

There have been 3 great flu pandemics in recent history. In 1918, the deadly
Spanish flu swept the globe, killing 40 million people before disappearing as
mysteriously as it arrived. Its origins remain unclear. Avian flu strains caused
2 smaller pandemics in 1957 and 1968, which each killed over a million
people.

Large increase of tuberculosis in young causes concern

                         Weekend News Today

                         Source: BBC

Fri Mar 23,2001 -- The growing problem of tuberculosis in the UK has been
highlighted by a south Wales health authority, which has detected 50 cases.
Bro Taf Health Authority - covering 750,000 people in Cardiff and the south
Wales Valleys - has noted substantial increases over a 4 year period, many
cases involving teenagers. Until recently, TB was seen as a Third World
problem. In Wales, health professionals have warned of a "major problem" if
cases among teenagers continues to rise. The figures show an 80%
increase over 10 years.

With the threat of multi-drug resistance to antibiotics, there is a danger that
the disease could become a major problem. It had been thought the spread
of TB could be controlled by keeping watch on high risk groups instead of
vaccinating everybody, but this has proved too difficult. One problem has
been ensuring diagnosed TB sufferers took the full six-month course of
various antibiotics to cure them. Without following the course, at least one-
third of all people with TB die from the disease and another third remain
chronically ill.

Young people are more likely to spread the disease than the elderly due to
having a higher number of close contacts, but they are also more likely to be
reluctant to reveal the names of those close contacts. The vaccine is at least
70% effective among young people and Bro Taf Health Authority aims to have
the new jab programme up and running in the next school year. The
authority's Dr Sharon Hopkins said: "With the rise in TB among the young,
and the threat of multi-drug resistance to antibiotics, there is a danger that
the disease could become a major problem for young people in Wales. TB is
caused by a germ (bacteria) that is usually spread by coughing, sneezing or
spitting, though not every person with TB is infectious.

More churches destroyed in northern Nigeria

Fri Mar 23,2001 -- At least five churches were destroyed during February in
northern Nigeria as the controversial implementation of Islamic law continued
in several states.

St. Dominic's Catholic Church was demolished on February 14 in Dashi, a
village located 12 kilometers from Gusau, the state capital of Zamfara state.
Zamfara Governor Alhaji Ahmed Sani had forcefully converted the church into
an Islamic school in January.

Christian Leaders told Compass that some of the persons who attacked the
church have been arrested and that it has been confirmed that they were
instructed to carry out the demolition by unnamed Muslim leaders in the
state. The attackers were said to be angered that Christian leaders criticized
the conversion of the church to an Islamic school.

Lebanon bans Holocaust denial conference

Fri Mar 23,2001 -- Lebanon has banned a conference intended as a platform
to deny the Holocaust and which was to have opened in Beirut this month,
the prime minister said on Friday. Lebanon's decision follows appeals by
Jewish organizations and Arab intellectuals to stop the planned conference,
whose organizer was once sentenced to jail for publicly denying that the
Nazis murdered six million Jews during World War Two.

"Lebanon has more important things to do than holding conferences that hurt
its international standing and smear its name," Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri
said. The World Jewish Congress had called for the conference to be
stopped and accused Iran of funding it. The Paris-based European Jewish
Congress had also asked Lebanon to impose a ban. However, a California-
based organization helping to stage the planned March 31-April 3
"Revisionism and Zionism" conference appeared still to be preparing for it.

A spokesman for Hizbollah, the Iranian-backed guerrilla group, told Reuters
on Friday his party "did not receive any invitation so far" to take part in the
conference.

Focus on the Family's Dr. James Dobson says ''protect children from

On his Focus on the Family radio broadcast, Tuesday, Dr. James Dobson
called on his millions of listeners to be aware of the level to which the
homosexual agenda is being promoted in the public school system. Dobson
noted that California, in particular, is facing a dire situation, as an
unauthorized task force set up by California Superintendent of Public
Instruction Delaine Eastin has drafted a radical set of 12 recommendations
designed not merely to promote "tolerance" of homosexuality in the state's
public schools, but to force acceptance of homosexuality there.

Belgium takes first step to legalize euthanasia

Fri Mar 23,2001 -- Belgian senators have agreed on draft legislation to
legalize euthanasia. It will go to the Belgian upper house of parliament within
the next month with the lower house voting on it shortly thereafter. Politicians
are being allowed a free vote on the issue. The proposed law is similar to that
of the Netherlands and states that requests for euthanasia must be made by
a patient who is conscious when making an active, voluntary and persistent
demand. Most observers of the situation in the Netherlands know that the
legal restrictions actually do nothing in practice to restrict euthanasia to the
prescribed limits.

EU may tag all farm animals

                         Weekend News Today
                         Lead: Leo
                         Source: CNN

Fri Mar 23,2001 -- EU Food Safety Commissioner David Byrne says it might
be necessary to tag every farm animal in Europe in order to prevent a repeat
of the foot-and-mouth crisis. He was speaking on Thursday as the disease,
which has devastated the UK's farming community, was confirmed in Ireland,
France and The Netherlands.

Tagging would enable routes of infection to be swiftly identified and would
prevent illicit movements of animals, which are suspected to have contributed
to the speed of foot-and-mouth's spread, he said.

Reports on Friday also said Germany was investigating its first suspected
outbreak, on a pig farm in Lower Saxony. Test results are expected on
Saturday. Also on Friday, EU vets are meeting to consider the limited use of
vaccinations in areas affected by foot and mouth to try and create a firewall
to stop the disease from spreading.

Shalom dear friends

Jerry Golden has reminded us that God calls us to pray for Israel in
these days. For those who know Him to stand in His strength and shed
His light in the Land. God has His hand upon His people. We can trust
Him.

Ps 121:3-4 He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
4Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep. NKJV

================================================== Jerry Golden "REPORT"
P.O. Box 591
Bet Shemesh 99100 Israel
http://thegoldenreport.com

On nearly every web site News Agency there are reports of war in
Israel within 72 hours. I just read one from http://www.debka.com
then there are others such a Gamla. Who all are saying war is within
days and that Israel will hit the Hiabollah and possibly even Syria in
a preemptive strike. Much like the one that kicked off the 1967 war
against Egypt.

I reported to you a few days ago that Israeli Special Forces are
moving in the direction of the Lebanon Border. There has also been an
escalation in training throughout the negev desert, and elsewhere.
Over our house almost 24 hours a day there are choppers in training
exercise. Connie and I were in Arad in the desert above the southern
end of the dead sea, when choppers flew over us so close the wind
could be felt from the props.

I talked with Joel who is in the IDF Special Forces two days ago, I
can't tell you some things but I can tell you this. His unit like
others are expecting to see action soon. God gave me a vision just
two days ago, and in that vision I felt that I was being shown
something that was not to happen in the distant future but right way.

It is my belief and others that when Israel goes after the Hizbollah,
the Palestinians will let loose with all their heavy weapons they
have smuggled in, and the IDF will take out large parts of the areas
in Ramallah, Gaza, and Nablus and possible Bethlehem and Hebron. It
is also reported that the Palestinians Force 17 has moved into Hebron
getting ready for an offensive.

Egypt may well come out in full force with all their might. Iraq and
Iran could start sending their missiles. This could be one of the
last emails you get from me, at least for a while. We will see, but
even if this does not happen within the next 2 to 3 days it will
happen as soon.

Every Israeli I know has upgraded their gas mask and other equipment,
getting ready for what seems to be some bad days. It is my prayer
that should we survive, that we will see the greatest move of God's
Spirit anyone has ever seen, my precious Jewish people will come to
know their Messiah by the thousands.

Pray for my son Joel, and the others in the IDF with him, God has
chosen him to fight for the Land of Israel. Pray for the peace of
Jerusalem. Pray for this Ministry, and your part in it. Shalom,
jerry golden

U.S. ASKS SHARON TO HALT WORK ON NAZARETH MOSQUE
Franciscan Praises Bush=B4s Request

JERUSALEM, MAR. 23, 2001 (ZENIT.org-FIDES).- U.S. President George
W. Bush has asked Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to withdraw
permission for construction of a mosque in front of the Basilica of the
Annunciation in Nazareth, Radio Israel reported this morning.

The request was made Tuesday during a meeting between Bush and Sharon
in Washington, D.C. Some American Christian leaders had urged Bush to
seek a reversal of the decision allowing the mosque.

Israeli Franciscan, Father David Jaeger, a member of the Custody of the Hol y
Land, told the international agency Fides: "I am delighted and very gratefu l to
President Bush, to the American Catholic bishops, and American Christian
leaders in general. Many Protestant churchmen I met on several visits to th e
United States had assured me of their backing for the request made by the
Franciscan Custodians. The president=B4s support echoes voices raised all
over the Christian world."

The government of Ehud Barak had ceded to a request by Muslim
fundamentalists for a mosque on the doorstep of the Nazareth basilica. On
several occasions, the decision created friction between Christians and
Muslim fundamentalists in the Holy Land. As a protest against the laying of
the foundation stone on Nov. 23, 1999, Christian churches and holy places
throughout the Holy Land kept their doors closed for two days.

The mosque is not essential to the spiritual needs of the Muslim community,
since there are other Muslim places of worship in the area. In 1999, Yasser
Arafat himself expressed his opposition to the construction.

BAPTISTS HALT ECUMENICAL TALKS WITH CATHOLICS

NEW YORK, MAR. 23, 2001 (Zenit.org).- The Southern Baptist Convention is
stopping 30 years of official doctrinal talks with the Catholic Church in t he
United States, the Associated Press reported.

"We=B4re not ecumenists; we=B4re evangelicals committed to sharing the
Gospel,=B4=B4 explained the Reverend R. Philip Roberts, president of Midwes tern
Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, who formerly
handled interfaith relations with the North American Mission Board.

Though the denomination=B4s 1994 meeting endorsed talks with the Catholics,
Roberts said "many Southern Baptists became suspicious of these
discussions.=B4=B4

When the talks began in 1971, both sides saw them as an opportunity to
understand agreements and differences, though there was never any
prospect of organizational union. Catholics and Baptists have 78 million
members between them in the United States.

Baptist officials notified Bishop J. Kendrick Williams of Lexington, Kentuc ky,
Catholic co-chair of the dialogue, of the decision in a Feb. 7 letter but n o
public announcement was made. Brother Jeffrey Gros, the bishops=B4 liaison to
the Southern Baptist dialogue, said the Catholic side would have no
comment.

The Southern Baptist-Catholic dialogue is one of eight official conversatio ns
with U.S. Christian branches that the Catholic bishops have established, in
the wake of the Second Vatican Council=B4s decree on ecumenism.

SWISS OK OF ABORTION MAY BE PUT ON HOLD

LUGANO, Switzerland, MAR. 23, 2001 (Zenit.org).- The Swiss Parliament
voted today to legalize abortion, after an eight-year debate, the Associate d
Press reported.

The Christian People=B4s Party, a member of the coalition government,
immediately challenged the decision and announced it would collect the
100,000 signatures necessary under Swiss law to force a referendum, AP
said. That would prevent the law from taking effect before the national vot e,
which is unlikely to be held for several years.

Abortion is technically illegal but widely practiced in this nation of 7.2 million.
In most cities, it is relatively easy for a woman to end the life of her un born
child in state-run hospitals or private clinics provided she has a signed l etter
from a second doctor stating that there are sound medical reasons.

A proposal to legalize abortion until the 14th week of pregnancy was first put
forward by the Socialist Party eight years ago. During subsequent
parliamentary debates, this was reduced to 12 weeks.

The National Council, Parliament=B4s larger chamber, voted 107-69 to legali ze
abortion without requiring women first to seek neutral advice at a state-
approved center. The other house, the Council of States, approved the
proposal 22-20.

The Christian People=B4s Party wanted to insert a clause requiring women to
undergo independent counseling, but it was rejected. Party President
Adalbert Durrer said the new version of the proposed law "offered totally
insufficient protection of the unborn life. ... The question of abortion sh ould
not be considered by the woman alone."

BUSH=B4S ADDRESS AT DEDICATION OF JOHN PAUL II CENTER
"His Is Not the Power of Armies or Technology or Wealth"

WASHINGTON, D.C., MAR. 23, 2001 (Zenit.org).- Here is the text of the
address by U.S. President George W. Bush at the dedication ceremony
Thursday of the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center in the American capital.

* * *

THE PRESIDENT: Your Excellency, thank you very much. You will be
pleased to hear, my mother is still telling me what to do. And I=B4m listen ing
most of the time.

Cardinal Maida, thank you for your vision, and thank you for your smile.
What a great smile. Cardinal Szoka, thank you very much for your hospitalit y
and, Cardinal McCarrick, let me congratulate you on becoming a cardinal
last month. Though we=B4re both new to our jobs, I=B4m the only one who is term-
limited.

I may be just passing through and I may not be a parishioner, but I=B4m pro ud
to live in your archdiocese. I=B4m pleased to join with all the church lead ers and
special guests here today to dedicate the cultural center. It is my high ho nor
to be here.

When Cardinal Wojtyla spoke here at Catholic University in 1976, few
imagined the course his life would take, or the history his life would shap e. In
1978, most of the world knew him only as the Polish Pope. There were signs
of something different and deeper.

One journalist, after hearing the new Pope=B4s first blessing in St. Peter =B4s
Square wired back to his editors: "This is not a pope from Poland, this is a
pope from Galilee." From that day to this, the Pope=B4s life has written on e of
the great inspiring stories of our time.

We remember the Pope=B4s first visit to Poland in 1979 when faith turned in to
resistance and began the swift collapse of imperial communism. The gentle,
young priest, once ordered into forced labor by Nazis, became the foe of
tyranny and a witness to hope.

The last leader of the Soviet Union would call him "the highest moral
authority on earth." We remember his visit to a prison, comforting the man
who shot him. By answering violence with forgiveness, the Pope became a
symbol of reconciliation.

We remember the Pope=B4s visit to Manila in 1995, speaking to one of the
largest crowds in history, more than 5 million men and women and children.
We remember that as a priest 50 years ago, he traveled by horse-cart to
teach the children of small villages. Now he=B4s kissed the ground of 123
countries and leads a flock of 1 billion into the third millennium.

We remember the Pope=B4s visit to Israel and his mission of reconciliation and
mutual respect between Christians and Jews. He is the first modern Pope to
enter a synagogue or visit an Islamic country. He has always combined the
practice of tolerance with a passion for truth.

John Paul, himself, has often said, "In the designs of Providence, there ar e
no mere coincidences." And maybe the reason this man became Pope is
that he bears the message our world needs to hear. To the poor, sick and
dying he carries a message of dignity and solidarity with their suffering. Even
when they are forgotten by men, he reminds them they are never forgotten by
God.

"Do not give in to despair," he said, "in the South Bronx. God has your liv es
and his care, goes with you, calls you to better things, calls you to
overcome."

To the wealthy, this Pope carries the message that wealth alone is a false
comfort. The goods of the world, he teaches, are nothing without goodness.
We are called, each and every one of us, not only to make our own way, but
to ease the path of others.

To those with power, the Pope carries a message of justice and human
rights. And that message has caused dictators to fear and to fall. His is n ot
the power of armies or technology or wealth. It is the unexpected power of a
baby in a stable, of a man on a cross, of a simple fisherman who carried a
message of hope to Rome.

Pope John Paul II brings that message of liberation to every corner of the
world. When he arrived in Cuba in 1998, he was greeted by signs that read,
"Fidel is the Revolution!" But as the Pope=B4s biographer put it, "In the n ext
four days Cuba belonged to another revolutionary." We are confident that th e
revolution of hope the Pope began in that nation will bear fruit in our tim e.

And we=B4re responsible to stand for human dignity and religious freedom
wherever they are denied, from Cuba to China to southern Sudan. And we, in
our country, must not ignore the words the Pope addresses to us. On his
four pilgrimages to America, he has spoken with wisdom and feeling about
our strengths and our flaws, our successes and our needs.

The Pope reminds us that while freedom defines our nation, responsibility
must define our lives. He challenges us to live up to our aspirations, to b e a
fair and just society where all are welcomed, all are valued, and all are
protected. And he is never more eloquent than when he speaks for a culture
of life. The culture of life is a welcoming culture, never excluding, never
dividing, never despairing and always affirming the goodness of life in all  its
seasons.

In the culture of life we must make room for the stranger. We must comfort
the sick. We must care for the aged. We must welcome the immigrant. We
must teach our children to be gentle with one another. We must defend in
love the innocent child waiting to be born.

The center we dedicate today celebrates the Pope=B4s message, its comfort
and its challenge. This place stands for the dignity of the human person, t he
value of every life and the splendor of truth. And, above all, it stands, i n the
Pope=B4s words, for the "joy of faith in a troubled world."

I=B4m grateful that Pope John Paul II chose Washington as the site of this
center. It brings honor and it fills a need. We are thankful for the messag e.
We are also thankful for the messenger, for his personal warmth and
prophetic strength; for his good humor and his bracing honesty; for his
spiritual and intellectual gifts; for his moral courage, tested against tyr anny
and against our own complacency.

Always, the Pope points us to the things that last and the love that saves.
We thank God for this rare man, a servant of God and a hero of history. And  I
thank all of you for building this center of conscience and reflection in o ur
nation=B4s capital. God bless.

An attack at Saddam palace
 Iraq, Politics, 3/24/2001

The spokesman for the Iraqi Islamic resistance of the higher council of the
Islamic revolution in Iraq Hassan Abdullah said in a statement to the London-
based al-Hayat daily issued on Friday that his forces attacked using
Katyusha missiles of 122 mm caliber the Presidential palace in Baghdad on
Wednesday evening.

Abdullah said that this attack, which is the third of its kind during one year,
constitutes a defiance of the Iraqi regime because it was made in
collaboration with the Iraqi army and by weapons from the warehouses of this
army in Baghdad, in particular.

He continued that this type of weapons can not be smuggled through the
borders and denounced the acts of killing and tortures carried out by the
regime against the Iraqi people.

Sat Mar 24,2001 -- EU leaders looked at the western Balkans as a whole
Saturday, seeing the entire region as "a strategic priority" for the Europe an
Union amid concerns that the conflict in Macedonia could lead to another
inter-ethnic bloodbath. Concluding their Stockholm summit, the heads of
state and government "reiterated the EU's strong and continued commitment
to stability and peace in the region, which remains a strategic priority fo r the
union." They also recalled the 15-nation union's "firm attachement to the
principles of inviolability of borders and territorial sovereignty of the c ountries
of the region," the summit's final communique said.

Macedonia uneasy as theatre of war set to shift

Sat Mar 24,2001 -- Macedonia was still in the grip of uncertainty on Saturd ay
as the potential theatre of war appeared to be shifting from its second cit y,
Tetovo, to the hills above the capital, Skopje. But the situation in Tetovo  itself
remained tense as rebels and government forces exchanged mortar and
machine gun fire, injuring four civilians, while 2,000 people in a nearby v illage
begged the Red Cross to help them leave. The government announced it had
foiled an attempt by Albanian guerrillas to set up a new front near the cap ital,
in the village of Gracani, just seven kilometres from Skopje and three
kilometres from the Kosovo border.

Helicopter attack as clashes worsen round Kosovo flashpoint

Sat Mar 24,2001 -- Macedonia threw helicopter gunships into its battle with
ethnic Albanian guerrillas for the first time Saturday as fighting worsened
around the outskirts of the frontline town of Tetovo. For more than three h ours
from midday (1100 GMT), the town was rocked by the sound of mortar and
artillery shells landing in the rebel-held hills to the north, while police  special
forces units strafed a strategic ridge with machine-gun fire.

Then just after 6:00 pm, two helicopter gunships wheeled over the town and
fired a salvo of rockets at the same ridge, before veering away and flying off
leaving columns of smoke rising from the hill. The use of helicopters marks
an escalation in Macedonian attacks on a day when civilians on both sides
suffered, provoking fears of a refugee crisis.

Senior Chinese military officer defects to U.S.

Sat Mar 24,2001 -- A senior colonel in the People's Liberation Army defecte d
to the United States while visiting as part of a delegation of Chinese offi cers,
sources reported this week. The officer's defection was first reported in
Wednesday's editions of Taiwan's United Daily News. Sources told The
Washington Post about the defection earlier this week. It was confirmed
today by knowledgeable U.S. sources.

One Chinese source described it as a "grave incident" between Beijing and
Washington. Chinese sources could not immediately provide the officer's
name. But they identified him as a member of the foreign affairs department
of the army's general staff who was involved in managing China's military
relations with the United States and disarmament issues. The defection
would constitute one of the most serious intelligence setbacks for China in
years.

US told to make China its No 1 enemy

                         Weekend News Today
                         Lead: Kelly
                         Source: Guardian Unlimited

Sat Mar 24,2001 -- A historic shift of emphasis in United States military
deployment from Europe to Asia, with China supplanting Russia as
America's principal foe, is at the heart of the Bush administration's long
awaited defence strategy review, according to reports in Washington.
Outlines of the potentially epochal rethink of the US's global strategic
priorities were given to President George Bush by his defence secretary
Donald Rumsfeld at a private meeting at the White House on Wednesday,
the Washington Post reported yesterday.

More than 50 years after the struggle to deter the Soviet Union in Europe
became the centrepiece of US military strategy in the aftermath of the
second world war, the Rumsfeld review has concluded that the Pacific Ocean
should now become the most important focus of US military deployments,
with China now perceived as the principal threat to American global
dominance. The review says, in effect, that Washington should abandon the
long-standing doctrine that the US military must always be prepared to figh t
two major world conflicts simultaneously, the reports quote officials as
saying.

By elevating China to the status of global enemy number one, the review
clearly foreshadows an American turn away from Europe, or at least from the
levels of US engagement and attention which have existed for the lifetime o f
most Europeans. Mr Bush ordered the strategy review immediately on taking
office. It is the most important of three complementary reviews intended to
shape US military priorities in the 21st century. The other two are on nucl ear
weapons and missile defence options, and on service pay and conditions.

The huge distances involved in the Pacific mean that the Pentagon must give
additional priority to "long-range power projection", the report says. This
means putting fresh resources into airlift capacity to enable the US to mov e
troops, vehicles and weapons many thousands of miles from bases in
America to the frontline in Asia at short notice. The report says the threa t
from hostile missiles is likely to become so serious that the US can no
longer afford to risk its largest and most expensive ships, the Nimitz clas s
aircraft carriers, in forward positions. As a result, the navy will be told  to stop
building big ships and to concentrate on speed and manoeuvrability,
including a new generation of smaller carriers, to avoid them becoming
targets.

Sat Mar 24,2001 -- International pressure mounted on Macedonia on
Saturday to show restraint in its military response to a local Albanian

United States added its weight to calls on the Skopje government to tackle
grievances of the country's ethnic Albanians. On Friday, Macedonia took
delivery from Ukraine of two Russian-made Mi-24 helicopter gunships,
significantly increasing its military capability. "The Macedonian armed for ces

Prime Minister Ljubco Georgievski, welcoming the aircraft at Skopje airport .

Additional settlement planned for Gush Etzion

Master plan to turn Nahal outpost into home for 6,000 families

                  By Ziv Maor
                  Ha'aretz Real Estate Correspondent

The Housing Ministry has recently completed a master plan for a new town
in the West Bank, to be called Giva'ot. The town will be located in Gush
Etzion, south of Jerusalem, between the settlements of Alon Shvut and
Betar. It is slated to contain 6,000 housing units.

Preparation of the plan, which advanced under the government of former
prime minister Ehud Barak, was approved by the planning board of the Israel
Defense Force's Civil Administration, which is responsible for land use in the
West Bank. The ministry intends to submit a detailed plan for construction of
the first stage of the new town - some 2,000 houses - for the board's approval
in the near future.

The ministry planned Giva'ot primarily for habitation by members of the
national religious community, though it is intended eventually to be
contiguous with the ultra-Orthodox town of Betar three kilometers away.
Giva'ot will thus cater to much the same population as the nearby settlement
of Efrat, once the available houses in that town have been filled. The new
town will be built on the site of a former outpost operated by Nahal, the
settlement corps of the IDF.

Subject: [bprlist] Fatah warns mayors away from Jerusalem conference
From: "research-bpr" <research-bpr@philologos.org>
Date: Sat, 24 Mar 2001 18:44:01 -0500

               Fatah warns mayors away from
               Jerusalem conference
By Melissa Radler, Etgar Lefkovits, and Itim

JERUSALEM (March 23) - The Fatah leadership in
east Jerusalem has warned participants in the upcoming
Jerusalem Conference of Mayors not to dare enter east
Jerusalem and the Old City with Jerusalem Mayor Ehud
               Olmert.

Hatam Abdel Khader, a member of the Palestinian
Legislative Council and a senior Fatah official on the
West Bank, said Fatah leaders from east Jerusalem and
members of the PLC from east Jerusalem decided on the
move at a joint meeting aimed at preventing the mayors
from attending the conference. Khader said letters were
sent to the invitees to the conference warning that Fatah
could not guarantee their safety if they visit their city.

Fifty-three mayors from 33 countries, including eight
from the US, are to arrive in Jerusalem on Sunday for the
21st annual Jerusalem Conference of Mayors. The
six-day conference, entitled "Excavating the Future:
Tradition and Technology in the City," is being led by the
president of the US Conference of Mayors, Mayor H.
Brent Coles of Boise, Idaho, and is sponsored by the
American Jewish Congress, the US Conference of
               Mayors, and Israel's Foreign Ministry.

The mayors will tour the country and meet with
Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert, President Moshe
Katsav, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and Foreign
Minister Shimon Peres. Olmert has promised to take
them on a walking tour of the Old City, but the
Palestinians have promised demonstrations if the visit
               takes place as scheduled.

Meanwhile, Olmert and Jerusalem police chief Cmdr.
Mickey Levy yesterday presented the two persons who
thwarted Wednesday's car bombing in Mea She'arim
with a certificate of recognition for their service.

"We had a great deal of luck, and a great disaster was
averted thanks to you," Levy told 37-year-old municipal
parking warden Shimon Roash and 26-year-old taxi
driver Moshe Mooky at a ceremony at the mayor's
               office last night.

Tragedy was averted Wednesday when Roash and
Mooky alerted police over a stolen car that contained a
               bomb.

Subject: [bprlist] Why South Asia is missing 79 million women
From: "research-bpr" <research-bpr@philologos.org>
Date: Sat, 24 Mar 2001 19:21:54 -0500

WHY SOUTH ASIA IS MISSING 79 MILLION WOMEN
Human Rights Abuses Abound for Sake of Family Planning

GENEVA, MAR. 24, 2001 (Zenit.org).- This week the U.N. Human Rights
Commission opened its annual session in Geneva. One theme unlikely to be
treated is the lack of respect for human rights in family planning programs .

The recent decision by American President George W. Bush to deny U.S.
funding to organizations involved in abortions drew attention once more to the
behavior of the Western-based and -financed groups. Abortion, however, is
only one of the problems in the population control efforts promoted by rich
countries and the United Nations.

China: torture used to enforce limits

Some reports in recent months have alleged that Chinese authorities are
relaxing the one-child limit on families. But the situation is far from cle ar.
Other reports indicate that China continues to abuse individual liberties i n
enforcing family planning.

Last month Amnesty International published a study on the use of torture by
Chinese authorities, and a part of this document examined the birth control
policy. Amnesty affirms, "Numerous public reports from China indicate that
local annual birth quotas still play a prominent part in the policy, upheld  by
stiff penalties as a well as rewards."

While some exceptions have been made in recent times, the report noted
that if women become pregnant without official permission, they could still  be
punished by heavy fines and dismissal. As well, local officials could be
demoted, fired or fined for failing to uphold the plan and quotas.

To enforce the birth control limits, Amnesty said, "officials continue to r esort
to violence, torture and ill-treatment including physically coerced abortio ns
and sterilizations." Amnesty went on to detail one such case, in Nanhai
County, Guangdong province. There, birth control officials last summer were
operating illegal detention facilities for pregnant women and relatives of those
who did not pay fines. The officials, who acted with impunity, held the
detainees for long periods in poor conditions.

A related problem in China is the trafficking of women. Due to the push for
smaller families, and the traditional preference for male offspring in many
areas, brides are now in short supply. This has led to the kidnapping and
sale of women, the Los Angeles Times reported Feb. 14.

The Times said a 1995 study showed that never-married men 20 to 44 years
old outnumbered their female counterparts by nearly 2 to 1. Between the
ages of 25 and 39, the ratio was 4 to 1. In hard numbers, that is equivalen t to
a surplus of 26 million single men age 20 to 44 in China.

Because of the steep drop in the proportion of daughters after China=B4s on e-
child policy took effect in 1979 -- due to selective abortion, fatal neglec t or
outright killing of baby girls -- the situation is expected to worsen in co ming
years.

The Los Angeles Times reported that in 1999, according to government
statistics, 6,800 women were reported abducted or missing and not
recovered, a figure experts say is almost certainly too low. An additional
7,660 women were rescued.

Selective abortions

The practice of selectively aborting unborn girls is also present in other Asian
countries. Reuters reported Dec. 16 on a study compiled by the Mahbub Ul
Haq Human Development Center in Pakistan. According to the study, the
growing use of ultrasound and amniocentesis to screen babies=B4 health, whi ch
enables parents to learn their offspring=B4s sex early in pregnancy, have
facilitated abortions and skewed South Asia=B4s population toward males.

The survey of Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the Maldives said
79 million women were "missing in South Asia" due to discrimination against
females, both before and after birth. The report based its findings of "mis sing
women" on figures that show there are only 94 women for every 100 men in
South Asia while the ratio worldwide is 106 women for every 100 men.

Female sterilization is another way in which women=B4s human rights are bei ng
violated by family planning. The Washington Post reported Dec. 23 that
many Brazilian women now want to reverse their sterilization, but the
procedure is costly.

By the early 1980s, sterilization was by far Brazil=B4s No. 1 form of birth
control, and played an important part in lowering the country=B4s fertility  rate to
2.1 children per woman by the early 1990s.

The Post reported that Brazilian officials acknowledge that the widespread
use of sterilization is largely responsible for the country=B4s alarmingly high
use of Caesarean sections, because sterilizations are often performed after  a
Caesarean. By 1986, 44% of Brazilian births were performed by Caesarean.

As the number of Caesareans increased, so did the rate of birth-related
deaths among mothers. Brazil=B4s maternal mortality rate peaked at 220 per
100,000 births during the early 1990s, with some cities reporting rates as
high as 350 per 100,000 births.

Feminist ideology

In the enthusiasm for limiting population growth, basic human rights are
being trampled. In an article in The World and I magazine last December,
Boston College philosophy professor Laura L. Garcia argued that family
planning efforts have been reinforced in many cases by a feminist ideology
that considers women=B4s fertility a threat to themselves and to their self -
realization.

This radical ideology has come to dominate the academy and the media in
most Western nations, producing a powerful coalition of well-intentioned bu t
extremely determined social engineers, noted Garcia.

The article observes that the drive to make contraceptives and abortion
accessible to every woman is often portrayed as a way of helping women
and the human race generally into a more enlightened future. However,
continued Garcia, "questions linger over whether this agenda is truly in th e
interests of women, especially women in cultures less fragmented than in
the West."

The emphasis on birth control has also led to neglect of basic health needs
in Third World nations. Garcia quoted Leanardo Casco of Honduras, who
complains that "in our hospitals and in our health-care system, we have a l ot
of problems getting basic medicines -- things like penicillin and antibioti cs.
There is a terrible shortage of basic medicines, but you can find the cabin ets
full of condoms, pills and IUDs." In fact, since 1969, the U.S. Agency for
International Development has spent more money on population control
programs than on other health programs. In some years, it spent three times
more on contraceptive "re-education" than on health care, Garcia
commented.

Prior to the 1994 Cairo conference on population and development Pope John
Paul II, in his address to the then head of the U.N. Population Fund, Nafis
Sadik, explained that in relation to family planning, "no goal or policy wi ll
bring positive results for people if it does not respect the unique dignity  and
objective needs of those same people." If only these words were heeded
there would be greater respect for human rights.

Dear Skye:

I apologize for not making my reference more specific. When I
wrote:

<< The attributes of Allah are similar to the attributes of Yahweh as
described in the Jewish Scriptures and of God in the Christian
Scriptures." >>

I intended to indicate that the attributes attributed to Allah by
Muslims are the same as the those attributed to Yahweh, by Jews and
those attributed to God by Christians. I think those attributes are
delineated in the Old and New Testaments respectively and regret that my
wording did not make that clear. I recognize, as do you, that Yahweh
and God are one and the same, with JesusChrist of Nazareth, the Son of
God, as the mediator between God and man. The Jews, as we know, do not
recognize Jesus as the Son of God, some look on Him as being the
'anointed' one of God; while the Muslims consider Jesus to be a prophet
and that Muhammad was the last prophet in the line of Moses, Isaac,
Moses, Ezekiel and Jesus. Praise the Lord!

God Bless you. Charlie Baker.

> Where does the name Allah come from and what does it mean? Who is
> the god of the Muslims historically?

"It is commonly imagined by non-Muslims that Allah is simply the Arabic
word for God, like Dieu in French or Dios in Spanish. Not so. Allah is a
contraction of al-Ilah, the personal name of the moon god, chief of the gods
in the ancient Kaaba. That fact is still reflected in the crescent moon on the
minarets and shrines and mosques and national flags of Islamic countries. If
Allah were merely the Arabic word for God, then the Muslims would not
hesitate to use the word for God in other languages. But in each language it
is insisted that the name Allah be used; it would be blasphemy to call the
Muslims' god anything but Allah." (Cup of Trembling: Jerusalem and Bible
Prophecy, Dave Hunt)

The Kaaba is the building in Mecca that houses the black stone which all
Muslims turn towards when praying. This Kaaba housed many idols at one
time but Mohammed got rid of all of them except for Allah (which was his
family's favorite). Seeing Mohammed "invented" Islam, historically its only
god has been Allah, although this deity had been revered before this time in
conjunction with many other pagan idols.

"One wonders what the long-established pagan custom of kissing the Black
Stone could possibly have to do with what Mohammed claimed was an
entirely new religion that replaced the old. In pre-Islamic days each tribe
adopted for its protection a sacred stone which was believed to hold magical
powers. The Black Stone of today's Kaaba was the one which Mohammed's
Quraish tribe had adopted long before his birth. Its retention proves that
much of Islam, contrary to what Muslims believe, was not received as a new
revelation from heaven, as Mohammed claimed, but was simply carried over
from long-established pagan customs." (ibid)

I hope this helps,

I looked up this book by author on amazon.com, if it is the one to which you
refer:
Guardians of the Grail : And the Men Who Plan to Rule the World
by Chruch, J. R. Church, G. G. Stearman (Editor), Ralph G. Griffin (Editor)
Cost is $9.56
Paperback - 318 pages (July 1989)
Prophecy Publications; ISBN: 0941241025 ; Dimensions (in inches): 0.73 x
8.02 x 5.45
Amazon.com Sales Rank: 77,472

The book gets a rave review by two people, and is called trash by two
others.
The reasons given by the detractors for not liking it are faulty research
and unverified references.

The Chruch/Church spelling comes directly from amazon - not my fault.

Blessed be,
- br

Good morning guys,

I've read the book mentioned and would rate it about an eight (on a scale of 1-
10) for interesting information and a two for documentation. The lack of documentation is probably the main reason why I didn't recommend this book in our reference guide. Church will make statements and then not give any references on how he has come to this knowledge. We are just supposed to
take his word for it without a reference trail to verify his facts for ourselves. Having said that, however, the subject matter is very interesting and I imagine there are other books out there that may fit the bill as far as documentation goes.

A couple of years ago, I did post a little information on this topic to the list, some of it refers to Church's book. I'll include it in this message for easy reference. Moza posted a message on the Grail last year as well. I'll send it in another message as it is a bit lengthy.

Book Review and Recommendation

Daniel, John. "Scarlet and the Beast: A History of
the War Between English and French Freemasonry," (c)1995,
ISBN: 0963507990

"In 1982 and 1986 three secular revisionist authors, Michael Baigent, Richard
Leigh, and Henry Lincoln published 'Holy Blood, Holy Grail' followed by 'The
Messianic Legacy.' These two books dramatically reveal a secret order
structured in the manner of Freemasonry, and founded in Europe twelve
centuries before the Grand Lodge was officially formed in 1717. This order
protects both the Holy Grail and the Merovingian bloodline, which bloodline
carried Mystery Babylon into the Catholic Church in 496 AD.

"The Holy Grail, of course, is the so-called cup from which Jesus drank at the
Last Supper. The Merovingians, owners of the Holy Grail, teach that Jesus
fathered children by Mary Magdalene. The Merovingians claim to be the
offspring of that 'holy' union, and as such, assert they are Jews of the Davidic line.

"In Revelation 17:3-5 the apostle John describes a vision, which Rev. J.R.
Church in 'Guardians of the Grail' believes is fulfilled in the Grail legend. The Whore of Babylon is holding in her hand a golden cup full of blasphemy.
Church believes the cup is the blasphemous Holy Grail.

The passage above goes on to quote J.R. Church's belief that the anti-Christ
will come from a secret order of the Merovingians, the Priory of Sion (Sion is
French for Zion). This secret order has over 9000 members of various religions
-- Jews, Protestants, Roman Catholics, etc -- but whose teachings follow those
of their "greatest prophet -- whom they believe to be Buddha."

Another aspect of the Holy Grail legend involves the spear that pierced Jesus' side. This spear is called the Spear of Longinus or the Spear of Destiny. The legend states that whomever possesses this spear also possesses or controls the world via the spear's "mystical powers." Hitler, supposedly, later possessed this spear.

The above is from a three volume work by John Daniel titled "Scarlet and the Beast: A History of the War Between English and French Freemasonry" (pg 60, Vol I).

Here is an interesting speculation on the origin of the Holy Grail
